This is a newly renovated hotel. The room facilities are new with comfortable bed and good lighting setup. This hotel have a bar and a gym located at rooftop. You can have your drink and enjoy the view of Kota Kinabalu from the rooftop bar. During my stay, the room services did a great job to tidy up my room which I am very satisfied with the services provided. The hotel location is good and walkable distance to most of the famous shop and street. Lastly, I must mentioned that the front desk receptionist, Ms H***is very friendly and helpful. If you looking for a nice hotel with good price, this is the one you must give a try.

The service here is wonderful! The staff are very friendly, and the receptionists are incredibly helpful, making the check-in and stay very smooth. While I enjoyed the hospitality, the breakfast menu was a bit disappointing. It was very basic and lacked any 'standout' dishes that would appeal to tourists. Great service, but the food options need more variety

I expected a great hotel stay and they delivered. All the staff were lovely. Thank you for that. My only issue is the lack of room information regarding what is available in the hotel. Normally I would expect marketing information and menus for restarunt and bar in the room. The TV does give room service menu but was not required. Fortunately we found Ben, the Concierge in the lobby who very kindly explained what we asked, and provided a map for the area. Very welcome. Thank you very much.

I arrived at 9 AM and was immediately checked in. After a good sleep, I headed out to explore. No deposit was required, which was a nice touch. The staff were all smiles and made me feel right at home. Next time I'm in Kota Kinabalu, I'll definitely choose this place again. The privacy is excellent, and the capsule rooms are great. It's also conveniently located near the Central Market and Gaya Street, making it easy to get around.

I had a wonderful stay at Mapple Home. The apartment was clean, comfortable, and fully equipped with everything I needed — ironing facilities, hair dryer, microwave, fridge, TV, heater, WiFi, plates, bowls, pots, cutlery, glasses, pans, an electric stove, and a very comfortable mattress. The entire area was spotless and well-maintained. Special thanks to the host, Syafini, for being so helpful in answering all my questions and kindly allowing me to check out late at 12 pm. The sea view was absolutely beautiful and truly healing — I could enjoy the calming view of the ocean right from the bed. Overall, an excellent stay. Highly recommended!

I booked through Trip.com and already paid the 10 MYR tourism tax, but the hotel still asked me to pay it again. They only dropped it after I showed them my booking confirmation. Everyone, please be careful not to get scammed! I've stayed in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, and Kota Kinabalu for two days each, and this was the first time I was asked to pay a tourism tax. The beds are a bit small at one meter, so it was a tight squeeze for a family of four. However, the hotel's location is convenient, and it shares a pool with The Magellan, which is only a ten-minute walk away. That's a great perk, considering The Magellan's rooms are about 300 MYR more expensive. The hotel's own beach and pool are pretty good and kept the kids entertained.

The hotel is located on an island with a nice environment, perfect for those who want to relax and chill without island hopping. The staff are very enthusiastic. The restaurant offers a limited selection of dishes, but the taste is good. As it's an island hotel, prices are definitely higher than in the city. Downsides: 1. We had to pay a separate island entrance fee, just like the island-hopping tourists. 2. There's no Wi-Fi in the rooms, and mobile network signals are also unavailable on the island. Internet access is only available in the lobby and restaurant, so those who can't live without internet should think twice. 3. The room experiences three short power outages daily. 4. During the day, there are many noisy island-hopping tourists. It only gets quiet before 9 AM and after 4 PM when the tourists have left. 5. The duvet doesn't have a cover; the comforter is sandwiched between two sheets. The comforter often slips out during sleep and looks quite dirty. Hopefully, these issues can be improved.

Aside from the nice views, everything else was pretty mediocre. We stayed in room 7418, which was quite spacious and kid-friendly. It had both a bathtub and a shower. The TV had static, and the breakfast was the same every single day – at least for the 6 nights we stayed, it was the same few options. Surprisingly, there were no noodles at the club lounge restaurant. For any egg dishes, you had to specifically ask a waiter for the menu, otherwise, you wouldn't know they even had them. For 6 nights at the executive lounge, the alcohol wasn't self-serve; they only gave you a tiny bit each time. The service, from check-in to check-out, was pretty much non-existent. Housekeeping seemed to depend on the staff's mood; the first night the room was cleaned exceptionally well – I almost regretted not filming a full walkthrough. But the following days, the cleaning was very superficial.

Facilities: The facilities are a bit old, but that's to be expected given the age of the hotel. Hygiene: The hygiene is very good. Environment: The room is spacious enough for two adults and two children. Service: The service was very enthusiastic. Booked through Ctrip, and the hotel didn't charge an extra deposit!!! We had a great time playing! Definitely go with a tour group – my broken English made things really difficult!

The rooms, renovated in '25, were a great experience. The bathroom facilities were comfortable to use. The hotel grounds are huge, with lots of sports facilities. I stayed at the hotel for two days and didn't even need to leave to have fun. I enjoyed the sea breeze by the ocean, saw all sorts of animals in the park, and played some tennis. My only regret is that I couldn't book a golf lesson this time, but I'll definitely come back for it!

AAnonymous UserBefore coming, I saw a lot of negative reviews, but after actually staying, it met my expectations for a Shangri-La. The online complaints mainly focused on two points: first, it's old, and second, there were renovations. I've stayed at the Shangri-La in Penang before, and the rooms in Kota Kinabalu and Penang are quite similar – a bit dated but within an acceptable range. The beachfront environment is lovely, and the breakfast offers a wide variety of delicious options, also comparable to the Penang Shangri-La. The renovations mentioned in the negative reviews are in the Tanjong Wing lobby area. The noise wasn't really an issue; you only hear it when passing by. Currently, all check-ins are handled at the Kinabalu Wing lobby, and the service is excellent, with luggage being delivered directly to your room. Also, my Trip.com booking didn't require a deposit. I booked a ground floor room with a terrace in the Kinabalu Wing. The terrace offers a partial sea view, not as direct as some of the central rooms in the Tanjong Wing, but still nice. Plus, there's a sofa bed, so it could actually accommodate three people. My only minor regrets are that the toilet was dripping slightly, and I couldn't find a hairdryer in any of the cupboards or shelves, which I assume housekeeping forgot to put back.

AAnonymous UserJust got back home yesterday, and I'm determined to write a thorough review for this hotel. My kids also encouraged me to review it, because it truly deserves it. We booked four ocean villas for two nights, and I initially thought our chances of encountering issues would be higher with such a large booking. But we didn't run into any problems at all! In fact, I even regretted not booking more nights, mainly because I was put off by too many negative reviews on Ctrip. 1. **Service:** If you're comfortable communicating in English, the hotel service is absolutely fantastic. Most of the staff speak excellent English and were diligent in explaining activities, facilities, schedules, and programs. They showed us where everything was in the room and proactively informed us about the cost if we broke any of the toiletries bottles. The higher cost for broken bottles is because the contents are genuinely expensive – they're pure plant essential oil toiletries. As someone who regularly uses essential oils, I know they shouldn't be stored in plastic. Plus, these toiletries left our hair and skin feeling moisturized, not dry. I found them to be very effective. If you're worried about breaking them, just place them on the floor. 2. **Seawater:** The seawater is quite clear. While it's not a 'jelly blue,' the clarity is definitely good. We did experience a heavy downpour one day, and the water became a bit murky the next, but it was still perfectly acceptable. The photo of the large sea turtle looks a bit blurry because it was taken with a waterproof phone case, but the water itself was actually very clear. That was taken from under our water villa. The manta ray was photographed near the stairs of our water villa room. 3. **No Outside Food Policy:** They don't allow outside food in the rooms because it attracts ants and monkeys. The front desk has a dedicated area for storing snacks. We didn't bring any snacks into our room and always closed the door promptly, so we didn't have any bugs or insects. A crucial point: absolutely do not feed the monkeys! 4. **Meals:** We had all our meals at the hotel restaurant, and the food was truly delicious. A main meal costs around 90+ MYR per person (about 160 CNY). We felt the food was excellent, with a good variety of dishes and drinks beyond just the main courses. The kids' portions were a bit small; our four children ordered 7 kids' meals, and eventually, we just ordered them regular adult meals instead. 5. **Hot Water:** Regarding previous reviews mentioning no hot water, one of our rooms indeed had this issue. We called the front desk, and it turned out there's a 'water heater' button on the wall. Hot water was available within 15 minutes. So, don't hesitate to ask! Don't be shy; good service often requires you to speak up. 6. **Free Rentals:** Paddleboards, small boats, fins, and masks are all available for free rental. 7. **Marine Life:** In the ocean, we spotted baby sharks, baby manta rays, triggerfish, archerfish (the ones that shoot water), porcupinefish, and even a large sea turtle (which is rare, but we got lucky!). 8. **Welcome/Farewell:** We received a welcome ceremony and a welcome drink upon arrival. Upon departure, we sometimes had the whole staff waving goodbye to us. 9. **Guest Demographics:** There were a lot of European and American guests at the hotel, some Koreans, but not many Chinese guests. I wonder if this is due to the excessive negative reviews on Ctrip. 10. **Cleanliness:** The hygiene was excellent, and the rooms were very clean. Each room came with life vests, so you could go snorkeling anytime. That pretty much covers it. I believe if your English communication is good, feel free to chat with the front desk and restaurant staff; they are very engaging. At 8 AM, the hotel organizes a free jungle trek. It was a bit tiring, and we didn't see much – just hiking uphill. For reference, my experience this trip, and with these four rooms, was genuinely excellent. Having been to places like the Maldives, Bali, and Koh Lipe... I think this hotel offers great value for money, and I would definitely come back. Hotels at this price point on Koh Lipe before were significantly worse.

LLanlingwang0812Let's start with the positives: the location is incredibly convenient, within walking distance to various downtown attractions. The price was also reasonable, even during Chinese New Year, and the service was good. We stayed here for one night after an early morning flight, but as the saying goes, you get what you pay for. The environment is comparable to a budget chain hotel in China, and it can be a bit noisy facing the street. It's also an older version, not the newer 3.0. So, it's a decent option if you're looking for value for money for a temporary one or two-night stay.

SSiniyansiTraveled with my bestie, and I booked this hotel specifically because I loved the look of the bathtub 🛁. First, the positives: The service was attentive, and there was even a Chinese butler, though most staff primarily spoke English. The environment was fantastic; the pool and beach loungers were clean and comfortable. In the afternoon, they'd restock snacks and drinks in our room, and we could choose what we wanted, which was a great touch. The sunsets were beautiful, but if you're serious about sunset photos, I'd recommend Tanjung Aru; it's more photogenic there. We originally booked the Garden Wing but got upgraded to the Ocean Wing. The Ocean Wing was quiet with fewer people, whereas the Garden Wing was much too crowded. For breakfast, I ate at the Ocean Wing on the first day. It was mainly à la carte with fewer options at the buffet. The second day, I tried the Garden Wing; it was packed with people, but they had more buffet variety. However, replenishment wasn't always timely, and the coffee machine was a bit slow to respond, taking ages to get going. The food and drinks at the Sampan Sunset Bar were a bit pricey, and the cocktails weren't particularly good. I'd recommend sticking to beer there, but the ambiance was amazing for photos. The bathtub wasn't perfectly clean, which I can understand since some small leaves tend to drift in. It's best to rinse it out yourself before using it. The 4 PM late check-out was incredibly thoughtful and convenient!!!!! They also provide shuttle service to the airport or city malls. Overall, the experience was great. The service and facilities are definitely worth the price.

TTravelwithBamThe staff friendliness is just amzing 10/10. Excellent Service. Our room had amazing view of the sea and opposite resort called Gayana. Dinner: Only Buffet option is available and its about RM167/person +taxes. The spread are fairly good and it is delicious. Though they do have 2 more different Restaurant in the island,Japanese and fine dining. Breakfast: Included in the room price. Menu changes daily. I have nothing to complaint about the room, for us its comfortable. All rooms have exactly the dane Designs the only difference is where it is located. You are paying for the view. Activities: For me I think 3 days 2 nights are perfect to spend your time here, swimming by the pool, kayaking, snorkling,Jungle trekking, visiting the private beach. 1 hour complimentary use of snorklinh masks. I like the public guests showers and towel provided.Very convinient. One thing that I would like to comment is the boat fees are relatively very expansive.15 mins speedboat per person one way cost about Rm80+taxes..Just return trip cost RM170++ per person. This is not even including island conservation fees and tourist fees. All this added fees makes the Hotel cost more expansive. Because a boat trip to nearby or same Island cost only Rm40. GAYANA ECO RESORT provided inclusive/complimentary return boat fees. I hope the Management can improve this because we as Guests are going to spend more money on F&B and at the Bar. Last but not least I would like to compliment the service and staffs in thsi Resort I think they did such an amazing job. Overalö the Resort is beautiful andclose to the nature.

GGuest UserPrior to making the reservation, I had reviewed numerous negative online comments, primarily concerning issues with the air-conditioning and bathroom facilities. As a result, I contacted the hotel directly to seek clarification. The front desk staff assured me that I would be allocated a room without such problems and stated that it was designated for foreign guests and had not received any complaints. Relying on this assurance, I proceeded to book a twin-bed room. Upon check-in, we were required to carry our luggage to the third floor due to the absence of an elevator, and no assistance was offered by the staff. Although the room layout was acceptable, it was poorly maintained, with visible damage to the headboard. On the third evening, after returning to the hotel during heavy rain, we discovered that the shower was not functioning properly, with no water supply initially and only minimal cold water later. Despite being informed that a technician would attend to the matter at 11:00 p.m., no assistance was provided even after 11:25 p.m. Subsequently, the air-conditioning unit began leaking water. When I requested a room change, the staff initially declined, citing a lack of availability. Only after I insisted on speaking to the manager or owner was a replacement room, free from these issues, finally provided. I am extremely disappointed with this hotel, as it is evident that management has failed to take previous guest feedback seriously or implement necessary improvements despite repeated online complaints.
