Location is near city centre, which is convenient for me to commute to work. Room is very clean and spacious. Very comfortable bed, comes with 2 pillows for each bed. Nearby there is KFC, 7-eleven, 99SpeedMart convenient store, laundry mat, kopitiam etc. i got all the things i need from the surrounding area. Philippines market is only 1.5 km distance and can just walk. Overall experience, I'm happy and will definitely come back when i visit Kota Kinabalu again.

Definitely value for money. Good location with walking distance to Imago shopping mall, Filipino market and famous restaurants nearby. Nice sea view from the room. Cleanliness of the room also above expectation. Breakfast was average but acceptable.

I arrived at the hotel around 1:30 PM and was told check-in wasn't available yet. So I registered my passport and stored my luggage, and they said they'd bring it up to the room later. After going out for a meal and a walk, I returned to the front desk around 3:30 PM, only to be told they couldn't find my reservation. I explained that I had already registered, and then they informed me the room was under my husband's name, which was why my name wasn't found. But the problem is, they had already registered all our family's passports! Then another issue arose – they said the room wasn't ready. I pointed out that it was well past check-in time and that this was the hotel's problem. Eventually, they upgraded our room. The room itself was decent, and they even set up the sofa bed as requested for our family with a child. Just as I was about to relax, I used the toilet. I pressed the flush button on the wall, and the entire flush plate fell off, which gave me quite a fright. The facilities are really subpar. The hot water for the shower also wasn't working, and I had to call staff to fix it because their shower button design is so counter-intuitive. Did I think that was the end of it? There was another surprise when we were leaving. After checking out, my child's smart watch was missing. The location showed it was still at the hotel. I asked the front desk, and they said they hadn't found it. I showed them the watch's location, which clearly indicated our hotel and even the floor. The staff then took us to the room to look, but we couldn't find it. Finally, I asked them to find the cleaning staff, and sure enough, it was with them. But why didn't the cleaner report finding the watch immediately? If it weren't for the smart watch's tracking, it would have been impossible to prove. Luckily, we got it back. Additional note: The hotel pool is on the top floor and is quite small (a far cry from the Shangri-La).

I had a wonderful stay at Mapple Home. The apartment was clean, comfortable, and fully equipped with everything I needed — ironing facilities, hair dryer, microwave, fridge, TV, heater, WiFi, plates, bowls, pots, cutlery, glasses, pans, an electric stove, and a very comfortable mattress. The entire area was spotless and well-maintained. Special thanks to the host, Syafini, for being so helpful in answering all my questions and kindly allowing me to check out late at 12 pm. The sea view was absolutely beautiful and truly healing — I could enjoy the calming view of the ocean right from the bed. Overall, an excellent stay. Highly recommended!

The room was beautiful and spacious, giving off a super vacation vibe! The hotel staff provided excellent service. There's also a bar by the sea where you can enjoy a drink and dinner. The location is right by Sutera Harbour, and the famous 'Love at Ringgit Island' (which was popular online) has now moved to Sutera Harbour. It's also not far from the airport, making it very convenient for getting around.

Loved our villa and the employees of the resort. During day time it was full of tourists but they will be gone by noon so it's more calm and less smokers!! We had our breakfast and dinner at Arang restaurant, and attentive staff and food was acceptable. Can easily spot fish and even baby shark nearby the jetty, the sea water is clear and sky blue..but its disappointing that some irresponsible tourists left rubbish by the beach.

The biggest issue is that for a beachfront resort, its beach is practically nonexistent – though it doesn't really hinder the fun! I booked a sea-view room for three nights, expecting to step right out to the ocean. However, Magellan (hotel) seems to have a dock, so the 'beach' is all rocks. There's only about a 10-meter wide 'sandy' area, suitable for snorkeling. The underwater rocky reefs here make for pretty good snorkeling. The adjacent Pacific Sutera beach, which shares facilities, is a bit longer, but the waves are bigger there, so the snorkeling isn't as good as here. Both hotels share four pools, which is great for swimming, but it feels a bit odd to go to a beach resort and only swim in the pool. I didn't find any other major deal-breakers; overall, the experience was good. The service wasn't bad, and while the facilities aren't new, they're not run-down either. Breakfast was decent, with all the usual offerings. There are indeed a lot of Koreans here, even more than I encountered in Jeju Island previously. I guess this hotel is a social media hotspot in Korea!

Despite its decent-looking exterior, the interior's cleanliness and facilities were surprisingly quite run-down. The bedroom itself was fine, and the air conditioning worked great; it had all the essential amenities. However, I was a bit put off by the leftover melon milk someone had left in the fridge. On a positive note, the lobby on the first floor had adorable kittens! There's a Tanjung Seafood Restaurant just a short walk away, which was delicious and I highly recommend. They also had a swimming pool, but unfortunately, I never got the chance to use it. It's a bit far from the city center.

This is my second stay at the Hyatt Regency Kinabalu, and the experience was excellent once again! 👍 📍 The location is absolutely perfect, right in the city center. It's a 5-10 minute walk to shopping malls and duty-free shops, and even closer to Durian Street and Gaya Street, making it super convenient for dining, shopping, and exploring. In the evenings, it's lovely to stroll to the night market or the seafront. 🛏️ I highly recommend the high-floor sea-view rooms. The views are unbeatable 🌊, and watching the sunset is breathtaking! The rooms are spacious and clean, the bedding is comfortable, and it's perfect for family trips. They even offer a complimentary extra bed, which is a thoughtful touch. 🍽️ The breakfast deserves special praise! There's a wide variety of dishes, and the freshly cooked noodles and rice vermicelli have different toppings each day – the beef and tendons are incredibly flavorful 😋. The Teh Tarik (pulled tea) is rich and aromatic, and the croissants are thin and crispy, unlike any I've had in China! The Chinese-speaking staff even help prepare the Teh Tarik, providing friendly and attentive service. 💁 The staff are always smiling, proactive, and enthusiastic. Communication in Chinese is largely seamless, making you feel right at home.

I was really worried after seeing the 3.9 rating and reviews before booking, but after arriving: what an amazing hotel! This view, in China, would easily cost ten times more at the beach, wouldn't it? A Grab taxi from the city center cost me 40 MYR cash. The hotel front desk doesn't have Chinese-speaking staff, but checking in was no problem. They gave us a newly renovated room on the first floor, and even from there, you could see the sea. We had booked a sea view room on the 5th floor. We tried out golf, which was only 200 MYR and included club rental. Dinner at the VIP building's Chinese restaurant cost around 600-700 MYR for 10 people, which I thought was pretty reasonable, and the food wasn't as bad as some reviews claimed. The view here is simply unbeatable. The only regret was not being able to surf because the waves were too big. We did try the SPA, but only the one-hour option was available for 128 MYR. You need to book in advance, and there's no Chinese service.

JJoy’s familyOur recent stay at Shangri-La Tanjung Aru was truly magical. We were visiting to celebrate two very special milestones: our 5th wedding anniversary and our youngest daughter’s 1st birthday. Before our arrival, I reached out to the resort to share our situation, hoping for a smooth stay with two young children. Ezmareena Ismail (Nurish) responded promptly, ensuring that the resort was well aware of our needs. Upon check-in, a gentleman named Jordan (if I recall correctly) went above and beyond by upgrading our room to better accommodate the extra bed we requested for the kids. The surprises didn't stop there. When we entered the room, we were deeply moved to find a thoughtful letter and beautiful flowers prepared by the staff to celebrate our anniversary. It was a heartwarming gesture that made us feel truly valued. Throughout our stay, Melania kept in constant touch via text messages to ensure we had everything we needed and were comfortable. Thanks to the incredible staff and their genuine hospitality, our family had a blissful and memorable holiday. I cannot recommend Shangri-La Tanjung Aru enough for anyone looking for an exceptional experience. We are so grateful for the wonderful memories!

AAnonymous UserJust got back home yesterday, and I'm determined to write a thorough review for this hotel. My kids also encouraged me to review it, because it truly deserves it. We booked four ocean villas for two nights, and I initially thought our chances of encountering issues would be higher with such a large booking. But we didn't run into any problems at all! In fact, I even regretted not booking more nights, mainly because I was put off by too many negative reviews on Ctrip. 1. **Service:** If you're comfortable communicating in English, the hotel service is absolutely fantastic. Most of the staff speak excellent English and were diligent in explaining activities, facilities, schedules, and programs. They showed us where everything was in the room and proactively informed us about the cost if we broke any of the toiletries bottles. The higher cost for broken bottles is because the contents are genuinely expensive – they're pure plant essential oil toiletries. As someone who regularly uses essential oils, I know they shouldn't be stored in plastic. Plus, these toiletries left our hair and skin feeling moisturized, not dry. I found them to be very effective. If you're worried about breaking them, just place them on the floor. 2. **Seawater:** The seawater is quite clear. While it's not a 'jelly blue,' the clarity is definitely good. We did experience a heavy downpour one day, and the water became a bit murky the next, but it was still perfectly acceptable. The photo of the large sea turtle looks a bit blurry because it was taken with a waterproof phone case, but the water itself was actually very clear. That was taken from under our water villa. The manta ray was photographed near the stairs of our water villa room. 3. **No Outside Food Policy:** They don't allow outside food in the rooms because it attracts ants and monkeys. The front desk has a dedicated area for storing snacks. We didn't bring any snacks into our room and always closed the door promptly, so we didn't have any bugs or insects. A crucial point: absolutely do not feed the monkeys! 4. **Meals:** We had all our meals at the hotel restaurant, and the food was truly delicious. A main meal costs around 90+ MYR per person (about 160 CNY). We felt the food was excellent, with a good variety of dishes and drinks beyond just the main courses. The kids' portions were a bit small; our four children ordered 7 kids' meals, and eventually, we just ordered them regular adult meals instead. 5. **Hot Water:** Regarding previous reviews mentioning no hot water, one of our rooms indeed had this issue. We called the front desk, and it turned out there's a 'water heater' button on the wall. Hot water was available within 15 minutes. So, don't hesitate to ask! Don't be shy; good service often requires you to speak up. 6. **Free Rentals:** Paddleboards, small boats, fins, and masks are all available for free rental. 7. **Marine Life:** In the ocean, we spotted baby sharks, baby manta rays, triggerfish, archerfish (the ones that shoot water), porcupinefish, and even a large sea turtle (which is rare, but we got lucky!). 8. **Welcome/Farewell:** We received a welcome ceremony and a welcome drink upon arrival. Upon departure, we sometimes had the whole staff waving goodbye to us. 9. **Guest Demographics:** There were a lot of European and American guests at the hotel, some Koreans, but not many Chinese guests. I wonder if this is due to the excessive negative reviews on Ctrip. 10. **Cleanliness:** The hygiene was excellent, and the rooms were very clean. Each room came with life vests, so you could go snorkeling anytime. That pretty much covers it. I believe if your English communication is good, feel free to chat with the front desk and restaurant staff; they are very engaging. At 8 AM, the hotel organizes a free jungle trek. It was a bit tiring, and we didn't see much – just hiking uphill. For reference, my experience this trip, and with these four rooms, was genuinely excellent. Having been to places like the Maldives, Bali, and Koh Lipe... I think this hotel offers great value for money, and I would definitely come back. Hotels at this price point on Koh Lipe before were significantly worse.

GGuest UserThis hotel is located in the suburbs and offers a shuttle bus service to the airport twice a day (morning and evening), which needs to be booked in advance. There's also a shuttle at 1 PM to Times Square and a shopping plaza, also requiring prior booking as same-day reservations might not be available. It's perfectly adequate for a family vacation, offering various paid activities, including a firefly watching tour at the Meng River mangrove forest. While there weren't many fireflies, it was still enough to entertain the kids, and its proximity to the hotel was a plus. The hotel's beach is uncrowded. The sunset views here are far superior to those at the Shangri-La in the city. The staff are very enthusiastic. All facilities here outperform the city's Shangri-La. On the first day of the Chinese New Year, there was a lion dance for guests to take photos with. Management came around to hand out red envelopes to children, creating a wonderful atmosphere. All in all, for a family vacation, I would still choose this hotel in the outer suburbs.

GGuest UserIt's a little out of town but I chose it for the close proximity to the beach and swimming ,which is about a 10min walk from the hotel. There are street food and drinks stalls available from about 3pm . Tanjung Aru beach is beautiful, uncrowded and the beach shelves away gently making it a safe swimming area. However, the beach had rubbish washed up and maintenance isn't a priority I guess. I swam everyday and didn't get sick ,that's a bonus. The room ( the whole place)was tired looking, it could do with a lick of paint and maintenance. Room was clean when I got there but I strongly doubt it was cleaned in the entire time I was there for five days. Often had to ask for toilet paper , shampoo and shower gel , and coffee sachets etc ,basics to be stocked whenever housekeeping does their cleaning. Air con worked for me although the settings couldn't be altered ! The bed springs creak and you feel the springs when you sit on the bed but I slept ok only because I was usually exhausted from the day's activities . The beds and mattresses definitely need renewing though. The fridge was mouldy and smelly , what a blooming shame : / The safe was broken - hallelujah! I kept my room door locked at all times only because Reception staff hardly looked up to see who comes and goes- they sit very low, almost out of view at their front desk. I wasn't convinced about their perception of safety especially as I'm a solo female traveller and I need to be alert and take great caution. Casuarina Hotel are you taking note? Reception is helpful but that depends who is present. Lifts work fine without too much of a wait. The cafe on ground level serves an American breakfast but I couldn't tell you whether that's worth your while. It looked like Mary Celeste everytime I peeped in there so wasn't convinced about getting fed or a service. Therefore, I had fruit and snacks as standby .. There's a lovely restaurant a few yards from the hotel called the Yolo Seafood Restaurant which tends to open from 11.30am- delicious and inexpensive with friendly staff. Grab taxi fare to city centre varies from MYR 7- 25 Ringgit ,the higher tariff if returning during commuter rush hours from city centre which is a 15- 25 min ride . Would I stay here again ? I would actually knowing all its idiosyncrasis compared to so many awful or simplly mediocre accommodation charging an arm and a leg , I think Casuarina is just ok . Value for money? I don't think so .

AAlisayaaI stayed at ***a Island Hotel 12 years ago, and I came back with my daughter full of anticipation, only to be utterly disappointed. There were two reasons: 1. The front desk girl in picture one was rude, arrogant, and shirked her responsibilities. After the normal check-in process on the island at 2:10 PM, we waited until 2:45 PM without being assigned a room (normal check-in time is 3:00 PM). Considering my daughter was feeling unwell with a cold, I spoke to the front desk girl about going to the restaurant to eat and rest first (the front desk staff was aware of the situation as they led us to the restaurant). When we returned to the front desk at 3:30 PM to check in, we were told there were no rooms available because we weren't waiting at the front desk. What kind of logic is that?! The truth was the rooms hadn't been cleaned, but the front desk just rudely insisted it was because we weren't waiting. Throughout, I communicated gently in English, yet I still felt the arrogance in her words and attitude. This should not happen at a hotel of this caliber. I saw other Chinese guests also having trouble getting rooms. I didn't want to argue and ruin my mood, so I immediately contacted Ctrip's dedicated customer service. Junjun was very professional and patient in resolving the issue. Finally, the hotel manager intervened and apologized, and we checked in at 4:45 PM. Once the manager arrived, the problematic front desk staff suddenly became timid; her demeanor was truly disgusting. 2. The room's cleanliness was poor. There were various hairs in the bathroom, and the bathtub still had uncleaned stains. The hotel's large bathtubs are a feature, but regular disposable tub liners don't fit; you need extra-large ones. The hotel's compensation included a room upgrade and a complimentary dinner. The hotel environment, and thanks to Ctrip for helping us get checked in smoothly. The hotel's natural environment is still excellent, quiet and comfortable – that's why I've missed this hotel for so many years. The main guests are still Caucasians and Koreans, with a smaller proportion of Chinese. The restaurant is quite good, especially the chef's skill.

GGuest UserPrior to making the reservation, I had reviewed numerous negative online comments, primarily concerning issues with the air-conditioning and bathroom facilities. As a result, I contacted the hotel directly to seek clarification. The front desk staff assured me that I would be allocated a room without such problems and stated that it was designated for foreign guests and had not received any complaints. Relying on this assurance, I proceeded to book a twin-bed room. Upon check-in, we were required to carry our luggage to the third floor due to the absence of an elevator, and no assistance was offered by the staff. Although the room layout was acceptable, it was poorly maintained, with visible damage to the headboard. On the third evening, after returning to the hotel during heavy rain, we discovered that the shower was not functioning properly, with no water supply initially and only minimal cold water later. Despite being informed that a technician would attend to the matter at 11:00 p.m., no assistance was provided even after 11:25 p.m. Subsequently, the air-conditioning unit began leaking water. When I requested a room change, the staff initially declined, citing a lack of availability. Only after I insisted on speaking to the manager or owner was a replacement room, free from these issues, finally provided. I am extremely disappointed with this hotel, as it is evident that management has failed to take previous guest feedback seriously or implement necessary improvements despite repeated online complaints.

MM7679****Everything was perfect. Every staff member at the resort was incredibly welcoming and helpful, even the maintenance workers I passed on the paths greeted me warmly. The food in the restaurant was delicious, and breakfast was absolutely perfect – I couldn't find a single fault. The resort doesn't cut back on service or close facilities just because there are fewer guests, which is great. It was a perfect getaway, and I will definitely be returning.
