The hotel has a beautiful location. The antique building has been kept in excellent condition. We chose to stay in the Feature Double Room-old Hall. The room was very spacious, with seating area. A coffee machine was also available. Cool drinks in the fridge. Breakfast was delicious, individually cooked, with a wide choice. The staff was very friendly and attentive. Would definitely recommend this hotel

Having visited previously we were very much looking forward to spending 2 nights at The Feversham Arms. We were disappointed to see how tired the venue looked on the outside the sun was shining and we looked forward to spending the afternoon having lunch by the pool and Soaking up the sun.  The service was below par and the food was average despite being quite heavily priced. There wasn’t enough seats to accommodate the guests who all obviously wanted to do the same thing. The pool area had uplifted flags with weeds growing and the pool is in desperate need of repair. Having visited previously and been treated with kind and courteous staff I was disheartened by the attitude of some of the service staff, especially in the spa area and the alfresco dining area.

This hotel, a former monastery, has a lot of authentic York character. It's right by the river, and the view from the window gives off a very medieval vibe. It's about a twenty-minute walk from the train station, and Shambles and the Minster are both within easy walking distance. The heating in the hotel was very good and warm, and the traditional English breakfast was quite nice. The only downside was a rather unpleasant check-in experience. The elderly British lady at the front desk was incredibly rigid, and I felt there was a hint of discrimination. We had two breakfasts included, but she insisted that children couldn't eat, even though there were only two of us. It's really hard to understand the mindset of some older British people. However, the breakfast restaurant manager was lovely and kept asking if I wanted to bring anything for my husband, even offering an extra children's meal when I explained it was just the two of us. Thankfully, Trip.com resolved the issue quickly, smoothing over the unpleasantness so it didn't impact our trip. Overall, I think the hotel is good, but that elderly British person at the front desk really needs to adjust her attitude!

Have stayed here before, though normally not at this time of year, so this may have shaped some of my experience - as I was trading during 2 of the days of my stay, I hoped to be able to eat at the hotel rather than go out; but this was only possible once, as restaurant was only open very limited times, and no alternative food in the hotel was mentioned. Also, the room I was initially given seemed ”tired” but adequate; however, on the second evening, both toilet and sink backed up, so I could use neither (I had put only normal toilet roll into the toilet, and nothing but wash-water in the sink). I did report this the following morning, but it was worse still on my return that evening. The person then on the desk did move me to another room, which was fine. So I can say I had a mixed experience this time!

Located in the heart of the town of Helmsley, the hotel is a traditional English-style villa hotel. The hotel's environment is simple and welcoming. The small garden of the hotel is very beautiful, it is suitable for sitting in the garden for an afternoon tea. It is just that the hotel does not have a lift. It is more difficult to move the luggage into the room, and the hotel does not have any extra staff to provide such services.

My wife and I stayed for a couple of nights. Checking in felt more tedious than it needed to be and our keys stopped working half way through the stay. We had a nice room with a comfortable bed and it was serviced, which isn't guaranteed these days. Breakfast was buffet style with plenty of choice. The staff were attentive and helpful. I'd stay there again.

YYeziA small villa, the room is clean and tidy, very warm and quiet, the service is very good and warm, we live on the 3rd floor, there is no elevator, the suitcase is the store to help get the room, parking is also convenient. The environment of Zhou is good, and it is convenient to travel. It takes 20 minutes to walk along the river to see the tourist attractions in the downtown area. Only breakfast is very expensive. Two nights a day is a pleasant experience.

LLauren MintoWe had the most gorgeous stay at No.1 Guest House - if there wasn’t so much to see and do in York we would have happily just stayed in and enjoyed the hotel all weekend. The staff were amazing, especially Ellie, who made us feel so welcome and couldn’t do enough for us. We loved just sitting in the bar area with a cocktail (the rosy margarita was amazing) and looking at all the art and the cute steam train. The hotel is sooo cosy and perfect for this time of year. We will definitely be back!

GGuest UserPerfect location for a sightseeing trip to York, with car parking. The hotel was gorgeous, beautiful room (we had blenheim suite), huge copper bath in the bedroom (bring your own bubble bath!), super comfy bed, beautifully decorated room. Reception staff lovely and very knowledgeable of local area. Lovely bar too with friendly staff, a range of boardgames available which was fun. Breakfast room had a great Churchill theme ( brilliant top/bowler hat lighting). Would definitely recommend. Thank you for a really lovely stay.

GGuest UserThe facilities are average and the elevator is small. The radiator is bad. The hair dryer is very small. Call the front desk many times to let people repair and no one comes. Soundproofing is good. Breakfast is OK. It is about 12 minutes walk from the station. It is also convenient to go to York. Life feels very slow and there are not many supermarkets nearby.

GGuest UserI stayed at the DoubleTree by Hilton York for a short visit and, while the location was reasonably convenient, the overall experience fell short of expectations for a Hilton-branded hotel. I was upgraded to a room located across the car park from the main building, accessed via stairs and without central heating. Instead, the room relied on standing portable heaters, which wasn’t ideal — especially given the wet weather and the need to walk outside to reach the room. The room itself felt quite tired and dated, with noticeably creaky floorboards both inside the room and from neighbouring rooms, which made it hard to fully relax. The location is decent enough, but if you’re travelling by public transport there are better areas of York to stay in that offer easier access and a nicer overall setting. I didn’t try the breakfast, as there are plenty of good local options nearby, which I enjoyed instead, so I don’t feel I missed out. One small disappointment was that coffee wasn’t available outside of breakfast hours. Overall, with so many good accommodation options in York, I’m not likely to stay here again.

GGuest UserLovely welcome at reception. Really helpful with parking. The room was large, lovely and warm and had every thing we needed. The most beautiful setting for breakfast again with friendly and helpful staff. Loved the decorated Christmas trees. The hotel was in an ideal location for Bettys and the shops.

CchristanneWe booked a standard double as we only wanted somewhere to have dinner and lay our heads to break 2 long journeys.  We were prepared for a 'tired' looking room and it was, in fact just that.  HOWEVER, both the room and bathroom were spotless; the bed absolutely huge with nice linens and the shower in the morning was spot on for temperature.  Service from beginning to end was fantastic and, though I didn't have it myself, my husband said the breakfast was excellent.    We travel both locally and internationally a lot and i rarely comment as many 4-5* hotels just go through the motions however, I wanted to give this hotel and team a well deserved shout out.  We shall certainly be back and recommend to anyone looking for a very good place to stay on the outskirts of York.
