The room was great, clean and hygienic. The best part is its proximity to Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street, just a two-minute walk away. They also have an indoor pool, which wasn't crowded. The downside is that there were more foreigners than Chinese guests, and the breakfast was terrible. At 138 yuan per person, there wasn't much worth eating.FromAU$142

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Abel from the Concierge Team at Radisson Blu Hotel Shanghai New World.
Before our trip, I contacted the hotel from my home country to arrange a birthday surprise for my friend. Abel was incredibly helpful from the very beginning. He responded promptly, provided detailed information about the room decoration options, and even suggested different color themes to make the setup more special. Throughout the entire process, he stayed in touch, answered all my questions, and ensured that every detail was taken care of.
When we arrived, the room looked even better than I had imagined. The surprise brought so much joy to my friend, and it made her birthday truly memorable. No one had ever organized such a surprise for her before, so seeing her reaction was absolutely priceless. I am very grateful to Abel for helping make this special moment possible.
I would also like to say a few words about the hotel itself. While the property may not be the newest in Shanghai, it is exceptionally well maintained, clean, comfortable, and full of character. The breakfasts are delicious, offering a great variety of choices, and the location is simply outstanding, making it easy to explore the city.
Choosing Radisson Blu Hotel Shanghai New World was definitely the right decision for us. We have been enjoying every day of our stay and creating wonderful memories here. Thank you to Abel and Jessica and the entire hotel team for your warm hospitality and excellent service. We truly appreciate everything you have done for us! ❤️FromAU$154

This time in Shanghai, I stayed at the Pullman Shanghai Jing An. The hotel's location is excellent, right near the Shanghai High-Speed Railway Station, just a five-minute walk to the lobby. Overall, the hotel is quite good. From the concierge at the entrance to the front desk staff during check-in, and even the room attendants on the floors, every employee was wonderful and very polite. After checking out, they even called to ask about my stay. The room facilities were complete, and it was clean and tidy, with very comfortable bedding. Our room had a city view, offering a glimpse of the distant Moller Villa's magical wizard hat and the nearby Lyceum Theatre. The location was super convenient; we could walk to many places like the metro station, Shuai Shuai Home Cooking, and Lan Xin Restaurant on Jinxian Road. The hotel's attention to detail was impressive, with different porcelain screens on each floor. The restaurant also offered both Chinese and Western cuisine. A special shout-out to Ms. Fang at the front desk for helping us with a late check-out until 2 PM, which gave our child time for an extra nap. You can also buy their butter cookies directly from the hotel without needing a reservation.FromAU$139

The Bund Area Shanghai|1.73km from city centre
After comparing many hotels in the same price range, I finally chose this one.
**Location:** The hotel is situated in Yuyuan, a prime location in Shanghai, just a few minutes' walk from popular attractions like the Bund, Yuyuan Garden, and City God Temple.
I arrived at the hotel after 10 PM. The overall ambiance was comfortable and inviting, with a strong sense of design that felt sophisticated without being overdone or artificially profound. Upon entering the room, I must say it exceeded my expectations. It felt more approachable than the pictures suggested, skillfully avoiding a forced 'vintage' look to hide any age. The smart devices and the chic color combination of deep blue and raspberry pink (dragon fruit pink) perfectly complemented the hotel's location. Although the hotel and surrounding commercial area are in the heart of the city, the nearby streets didn't feel overly congested or chaotic.
From the elevator lobby, you can catch a glimpse of the Oriental Pearl TV Tower, and the hotel's 270-degree river view rooms even offer sights of cruise ships navigating the river.
There's a restaurant on the 7th floor serving a fusion of authentic Shanghainese and Sichuan-Chongqing cuisine. It was raining, so I decided to dine in without high expectations. To my surprise, the food was delicious, the portions generous, and the prices were fair, not inflated.
The hotel offers intelligent robot room service, and the TV supports screen mirroring. The toiletries also had a rather distinctive fragrance.
Overall, after comparing it with several other hotels, my stay slightly exceeded expectations. Both the location and the overall experience were excellent.FromAU$148

I’m so glad I chose the Mehood Elegant Hotel. It was the perfect location — close to everything, not too crowded, yet not too remote either. I traveled solo with my 14-month-old toddler, and he was absolutely spoiled by all the hotel staff. Everyone treated us with so much kindness and care.
Jerry checked us in and out and even gave me a cute fridge magnet. The breakfast was delicious with so many options to choose from, the rooms were cleaned daily, and bottled water was always replenished.
Xiao Jun also took great care of us, and Yinhe Juan felt like an auntie to us. We looked forward to seeing them every morning at breakfast. They all made my stay feel so warm and welcoming — truly like a home away from home.
I’m incredibly grateful for their hospitality, and if I ever find myself back in Shanghai again, I’ll definitely be booking Mehood.

After comparing many hotels for my trip to Shanghai, I ultimately chose this one, and it proved to be an excellent decision! 👍 While the room facilities aren't brand new, the overall experience was still great, and it doesn't feel dated at all.
The hotel's location is also superb, right near Exit 3 of Jing'an Temple Station, making it incredibly convenient to get to various attractions. Huaihai Road Area Shanghai|0.97km from city centre
Let me start with the cons: The room I stayed in was triangular, which isn't really to Chinese taste. While you can tell the decor uses high-quality materials, it's been over a decade, so the hardware is showing obvious signs of age and isn't very modern. Switches are crooked, and the lights flicker. It's like an experienced beauty; even with efforts to maintain her, her age is still apparent.
Aside from the aging hardware, everything else is quite good. The hotel's location is definitely excellent, very convenient, and the surrounding area is lively – it's one of the best spots in Shanghai. As for service, they even gave me a late check-out when I returned late. The restaurant and bar on the first floor have a great atmosphere. Overall, it's quite good. As long as you're not too particular about the newness of the hardware, it's a very good choice for a trip.FromAU$254

We booked a one-night stay at this hotel because we had an early appointment nearby with our family, and the experience was truly excellent. They upgraded us to a family room when they saw we were traveling with a young child. The executive lounge's light meals were very convenient, and the afternoon tea cakes were delicious. During check-in, Levis at the front desk was incredibly patient and explained everything in detail. Plus, we had only made a note hoping for an anniversary setup, and they actually decorated the room and even gave us a complimentary cake! This old-brand hotel truly delivers. The Bund Area Shanghai|1.27km from city centre
As a five-star hotel, both the service and facilities are quite good. I've always heard that Westin's family rooms are great, and I got to experience one on this trip to Shanghai. I won't go into detail about the good aspects, but I do have a few suggestions:
1. For a family room, there actually aren't many kids' amenities, just a few stuffed animals. For example, a step stool could be provided in the bathroom for children.
2. The sink in the bathroom constantly accumulates water on the inner side. I'm not sure if it's due to the countertop's angle or something else, but I hope it can be adjusted.
3. The toilet paper holder in the WC is too far inward, making it inconvenient to grab paper. If you pull hard, the roll might fall off. Moving the holder forward, reversing its direction, or moving it to the right side would all be good solutions.
Overall, I hope Westin continues to improve as a high-end hotel. I look forward to experiencing it again next time!FromAU$191

My stay at the Shangri-La Shanghai was an absolute delight. I'd like to extend a special thank you to Jamie at the front desk. She was incredibly patient, meticulous, and professional during the check-out process, making it feel effortless and pleasant. She even thoughtfully offered some small refreshments, which truly exemplified genuine, warm service.
I also want to commend the room I was assigned. The location was fantastic, offering iconic views of Lujiazui right outside the window, with the Oriental Pearl TV Tower almost within reach. During the day, I enjoyed the expansive city panorama, and at night, with the lights twinkling, it was simply breathtaking. Every time I stood by the window, I couldn't help but linger a little longer.
Thank you to the entire Shangri-La team for their attentive care, and to Jamie for her enthusiasm and professionalism. Both the service and the stunning views made this trip to Shanghai even more memorable. I will definitely choose to stay here again given the opportunity.FromAU$228

This is our second time choosing this hotel. We met Trista, who was so sweet! She helped upgrade my child's breakfast and even prepared cookies for them when we checked in. The service here truly makes you feel at home. I love this place, mainly because it's incredibly convenient. This time, I chose a stay that included breakfast, and I don't regret it at all. There were so many options, and everything was delicious.
Right next to the hotel lobby, there's a plaza with a supermarket, McDonald's, and Luckin Coffee. Cross the street, and you'll find tons of great food. Turn another corner, and you're on Nanjing Road, Shanghai's most walkable pedestrian street, with the biggest Pop Mart, Lego store, and M&M's chocolate store. It's so convenient! If you get tired, you can always go back to the hotel to rest before heading out to explore more.FromAU$201

During the Dragon Boat Festival, I brought my family for a trip nearby. The Shimao Wonderland InterContinental, though I'd heard mixed reviews online, I decided to experience it for myself. After confirming our check-in time and our preference for a quiet room, Hanna from the front desk proactively added me on WeChat. She reminded me that because it was a holiday and there was an amusement park nearby, parking might be tight, advising me to inform her 30 minutes in advance so she could make arrangements. We checked in on Dragon Boat Festival noon, and I was surprised to see the lobby's seating area packed with people and a long queue at the front desk. However, thanks to Hanna's foresight, our room was already reserved, making the check-in process quick and efficient. Our room was arranged away from the elevator, and the soundproofing was remarkably good. We couldn't hear any plumbing from the adjacent rooms or the floors above/below, whether it was the shower or the toilet. This undisturbed experience is a rare find, whether in hotels built years ago or newly constructed ones, a truly effective soundproofing is hard to come by. There was a minor issue with the sink drainage during our stay, which was promptly resolved, showing their attentive service. However, I have to complain about the sink's design; it was a square basin, which easily splashed water, and water tended to accumulate near the faucet – not very practical. Our stay included a complimentary travel photoshoot with three free photos. The photographer was excellent at creating a lively atmosphere, and our family portrait turned out vibrant and natural, boosting our mood significantly! Online reviews for the Western restaurant were mediocre, but the Chinese restaurant, Cai Feng Lou, received many positive comments. I spontaneously decided to try it, worried about not getting a table, but Hanna immediately helped us book a table for that evening. The standout dish in the set meal was the diced wagyu beef – a true test of a chef's skill. Each piece was large, yet perfectly tender, flavorful, and didn't get stuck in your teeth. This mastery certainly justifies the numerous trophies and prestigious brand accolades at the entrance! At the restaurant entrance, there was also an introduction to the Shimao Quarry Hotel's background and construction history. Indeed, many aspects of its design were quite visionary, considering it took 12 years to build! The cliffside light show at 8:30 PM featured stunning opening audio effects, and the fountain design added a lot to the visual impact of the mythological story. The Chenshan Botanical Garden, included in our hotel package, was even more amazing. I felt like I could spend two days there, enjoying nature, the charm of the vast lawn, the beauty of the dawn redwood forest, and the tranquility of the camphor forest. Overall, it was a good experience, but the price was just too unfriendly. Even without it being a major holiday, it was so expensive. Given the current economic climate, a more affordable price would be needed to maintain sustained market demand.FromAU$302

Wujiaochang Commercial Area Shanghai|9.08km from city centre
Coming to Shanghai, I specifically chose the Pagoda Hotel (Fudan University, Shanghai Branch) that I've been eyeing for a while. I booked the Deluxe Family Twin Room for four people, and the experience truly exceeded my expectations!
First of all, the hotel's location is fantastic! It's right in the Wujiaochang business district and KIC (Knowledge Innovation Community), next to University Road, which has a ton of trendy restaurants and cafes. In the evening, we went to a folk bar nearby, and it was a wonderful experience. It's also super close to Fudan University; we even took a walk on campus in the morning, which was lovely.
Back in the room, it was incredibly spacious, absolutely not cramped for a family of four. There were two large beds, plus a tatami mat that could be used for sitting or lying down. We had tea and snacks on it during the day, and there was plenty of space to move around. The smart room control system was so convenient; a simple voice command could open or close the curtains and turn the lights on or off. Through the panoramic floor-to-ceiling windows, we had an unobstructed view of Wujiaochang's city skyline, which was truly expansive.
The hotel's service was also excellent. The front desk staff were very welcoming, and the butler even asked about our accommodation preferences in advance. There's also a free self-service late-night snack bar after 9 PM, which was a pleasant surprise! The mini-bar was complimentary, and all the in-room amenities were well-stocked. Plus, food deliveries were brought up by a robot, which was both convenient and private. The hotel also has a gym and a laundry room, which is incredibly thoughtful for families with children, allowing us to wash and dry clothes anytime.
Finally, a quick reminder: hotels in Shanghai typically don't proactively provide disposable toothbrushes, but you can always ask the front desk if you need one. However, this is a minor detail, and overall, this Pagoda is definitely worth recommending, especially for family trips – you can't go wrong with it!FromAU$122

My overall experience with the business I conducted at this location was incredibly pleasant, and I absolutely have to commend Audrey, the front desk staff member. Her thorough and thoughtful service throughout left a deep impression on me, and I'm writing this review to express my gratitude.
As soon as I walked through the door, the front desk staff immediately stood up and greeted me warmly. Her tone was gentle and friendly, and she maintained a sincere smile, instantly easing any awkwardness I felt as a first-time visitor. I hadn't brought all the necessary documents with me and had many questions about the process, required materials, and fee standards. I was worried it would take a long time and that the staff might become impatient, but she was incredibly patient throughout, without a hint of perfunctoriness or laxity.
She clearly explained each step of the process item by item. For technical terms I didn't understand, she rephrased them in easy-to-understand language and explained them repeatedly. Thoughtfully, she took out a pen and paper, wrote down a detailed list of materials I needed to provide, and noted important considerations for each item, saving me from making multiple trips. While I was waiting for the procedures to be processed, she saw me standing and proactively guided me to the seating area, even offering me drinking water. Her attentiveness was evident in every detail.
When handling the business, she was skilled and efficient, verifying information carefully and meticulously. She double-checked every detail with me to prevent any errors. Midway through, I added several additional questions related to various different services, and she answered each one in detail, proactively informing me about related benefits and precautions, showing incredible thoughtfulness.
Throughout our entire interaction, her demeanor was appropriate, polite, and humble, and her speaking pace was just right. She showed empathy for the customer's difficulties and displayed no impatience or perfunctoriness. Her professionalism and service awareness were impeccable. It's precisely because of such a diligent, responsible, and thoughtful front desk employee that the overall image of the establishment has been greatly enhanced, making my entire process smooth and worry-free.
Such excellent service deserves high praise. If any friends or family have similar needs in the future, I will definitely recommend this establishment, and I hope the store will generously reward this dedicated staff member!FromAU$47

Writing this review is not easy because I always try to stay positive and support hotels where the team genuinely makes an effort.
Overall, my first impression of the hotel was good, but as my stay continued, several issues made it difficult to fully enjoy the experience.
The biggest problem was the smell in the room. I asked to change rooms, but the alternative room had same unpleasant odor, so I decided to stay in the original one. Because of this, I shortened my planned stay. The smell wasn't just an ”old building” smell—it felt more like excessive humidity or even possible mold. It wasn't surprising to discover that the bathroom exhaust fan wasn't working.
Another unpleasant experience was waking up with what looked like insect bites after sleeping in the bed. I cannot say for certain what caused them (probably bedbugs), but it was concerning. I also had a mild allergic reaction after using one of the hotel's umbrellas, so I would recommend wiping them down before use if you have sensitive skin.
On the positive side, I truly appreciated the staff's attitude. They sincerely tried to understand my concerns and help, even if they weren't always able to resolve the issues. Their willingness to assist deserves recognition.
Breakfast is definitely one of the hotel's strongest points. There is a wide variety of quality food, and it's an excellent way to start the day.
The afternoon tea is also a nice benefit, especially with the beautiful view, making it a pleasant place to relax.
I hope the hotel addresses the room condition and ventilation issues because the staff clearly care, and with better maintenance, the overall experience could be much better.FromAU$127

The Bund Area Shanghai|1.78km from city centre
The historic Fairmont Peace Hotel, built in 1929 by the British-Jewish businessman Victor Sassoon, holds a special place in history. It's where Chiang Kai-shek and Soong Mei-ling got engaged, and where Lu Xun hosted Charlie Chaplin. Countless celebrities have graced its rooms. Previously, the Peace Hotel comprised both North and South buildings and was once known as the 'First Building in the Far East,' an iconic landmark on the Bund.
I was incredibly fortunate to stay here this time, a truly immersive and delightful experience. Step out, and you're greeted by the architectural wonders of the Bund and the observation deck offering stunning views of Pudong. Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street is right at the doorstep. The location is absolutely superb.
The hotel also houses a small museum, which feels more like an exhibition hall, with regular guided tours. A magnificent glass peace dove with outstretched wings dominates the center of the lobby. Despite its century-old history, the hotel boasts comprehensive and modern facilities. Every corner of the hotel is picturesque, perfect for photos.
All the staff were warm and polite, providing very thoughtful service. However, there was a minor lapse when the concierge staff placed my checked luggage on the floor.
The hotel's ambiance is fantastic. I requested a high-floor room overlooking Nanjing Road during check-in and was assigned a room on the 7th floor, also facing Nanjing Road, which offered excellent views. Lying in bed at night, I could admire the Nanjing Road nightscape. Perfect!
The package also included drinks and snacks at the Cathay Room on the top floor. After discussing with the hotel, we opted to exchange it for a performance at the Jazz Bar. An 80+-year-old jazz band performs there nightly, accompanied by a resident singer. We were given two complimentary drinks – one cocktail and one juice – along with chicken wings and peanuts. Listening to jazz, enjoying a drink, and munching on snacks was pure bliss.
The room perfectly blends classic and modern styles, with comprehensive amenities. The bathroom was huge, and there was a walk-in closet and a very large bathtub. The bed was super-sized, with soft and comfortable bedding. The room was spotlessly clean, and the toiletries were all high-quality. Before we returned to the room in the evening, the staff had already prepared it for bedtime.
Welcome fruits and exquisite chocolates were also thoughtfully provided in the room. They were so beautiful, I almost didn't want to eat them! The in-room coffee bar offers complimentary coffee, while the mini-bar items are chargeable.
After enjoying the jazz, returning to the room for a relaxing shower and a good night's sleep was simply wonderful. So happy!
Breakfast was served at the Jasmine Restaurant on the first floor. The East-meets-West buffet offered an incredibly rich selection, with what felt like nearly a hundred different dishes. There was so much food, I almost couldn't try everything. Upon being seated, the server brought a cup of coffee and a pot of tea. In the end, I piled my table high with food and savored each bite. I ate so much I could barely walk out – utterly satisfying!
Leaving the hotel, I felt quite reluctant to go.FromAU$518

The Executive Room was spacious and airy, with soft, comfortable bedding and exquisite bathroom amenities. The soundproofing was excellent, allowing for a truly peaceful rest. The hotel's location is superb, making getting around a breeze; you can hail a taxi right downstairs.
A special shout-out to Jeremy from the Executive Lounge! From check-in to departure, he was attentive and thoughtful throughout. He proactively explained all the lounge benefits, from breakfast and afternoon tea to evening service, arranging everything with meticulous care and warmth. He was quick to respond to any request, demonstrating professionalism and genuine hospitality that made us feel like family.

The Waldorf Astoria's century-old ambiance is ingrained in its architecture, but the warmth truly comes from our concierges, Aaron and Katrina. During our chat, they meticulously explained the history and signature dishes of various restaurants, offering unique dining tips for everything from the three-tiered afternoon tea at Peacock Alley to the Western cuisine at Pelham's open kitchen, and even the retro long bar at The Long Bar. Their thoughtfulness extended to every small detail, and the farewell gift at check-out felt incredibly ceremonial. This genuine sincerity made our Bund trip truly complete, and we will definitely return.FromAU$460

Just a random weekend to get a couple appointments done in the city, this hotel has the best price in the tourist area for anyone wanting to have fun. Easy to cross the River by ferry (inexpensive) or tunnel (80 RMB).
There are restaurants inside the hotel, and it’s maintained quite well, considering that the overall decor is somewhat vintage. The higher floors will give more quiet time. Really comfortable sleeping. I decided not to eat breakfast. The shops on the walkway are more expensive, but it’s still fun to splurge or Just explore.
Two really good jazz clubs within walking distance and although traffic does get backed up, being prepared with the proper shoes is helpful . Staff is friendly and attentive.
A note about the rooms is that the air conditioner might face the bed. There were not signs of allergens when the temperature is set reasonably. Bathrobes are not part of the room amenities. Everything else was great. The bathtub, bath, salt, steam, masks, and utilities were perfect.FromAU$142

1. A big thank you to Ms. Lorna for upgrading us to the Pearl River View Room – it was absolutely divine! She helped us get a better view from our room and was incredibly quick to respond to any issues. Her service was meticulous and heartwarming. She even prepared a wonderful gift bag for our child, filled with practical items like lollipops, a Dala horse brooch, and a mosquito repellent bracelet. My child wore that red Dala horse brooch for all our photos, and it looked lovely.
2. The hotel is just across the street from the World Expo Museum, which is definitely worth a visit. It's truly impressive, with huge artworks and it hosts many important events.
3. Our room included breakfast, offering a wide selection of Chinese and Western dishes. The food was delicious and mostly made to order, providing an excellent dining experience.
4. Thanks to Ms. Rebecca for proactively informing us about the hotel's photo spots and the travel photography perks. Overall, the hotel offers great value for money, stunning views, and excellent service. Grand Hyatt is definitely our top choice when staying on the Bund in Shanghai!FromAU$219

I stayed at this hotel back when it was still the Kempinski and always had a pleasant experience. This time, under the new IHG Vignette Collection branding, the stay fell far short of expectations.
Upon arrival, there was no one outside to assist with luggage. Staff members only rushed out after they saw me already pulling my bags from the car myself. The check-in process was noticeably slower, and I wasn’t offered an upgrade — which used to be a regular, appreciated gesture during my previous stays. I was given one of the smallest rooms I’ve ever had in this hotel.
The room itself had several issues. The microwave didn’t work at all, so I couldn’t heat up the takeaway I’d brought. The bedroom TV remote wasn’t responsive; I struggled with it for a long time and eventually just managed to turn the TV off, but not control it. The worst part was the noise from the room above — constant, disruptive sounds that went on until well past midnight, severely affecting my sleep. I did call reception about it, but the noise continued.
Checkout felt impersonal and rushed. No one asked how my stay was. I simply handed over my room key and that was it. When my pre-ordered car had trouble finding the hotel entrance, I handed the phone to a staff member expecting them to guide the driver. Instead, he simply found out where the car was parked, handed the phone back, and left me to drag my luggage there on my own.
The only positive is the central location, which remains excellent. But for service, room comfort, and attention to detail, this was a letdown. I hope they can bring back the standards they used to have.FromAU$232

Fantastic service, spotless rooms, and super convenient!
The hospitality at this hotel is outstanding. Check-in was flawless, and the staff were so attentive. A special shoutout to Anna, who was incredibly sweet and helpful. She opened a chat line with me to provide instant support and directions, making me feel like I had a personal assistant on hand. She even helped push my luggage to my room!
The room itself was clean, spacious enough for two, and featured a very comfy bed, a modern bathroom with great water pressure, and a powerful hairdryer. The breakfast offered a good variety of tasty choices.
The location is unbeatable—literally just a few meters from Wuding Road Station (Exit 1) across the street. Having a Peet's Coffee in the lobby was the icing on the cake.
The only downside is the lack of a dedicated concierge service for luggage handling during check-in/out.
Overall, the price and quality are top-notch. I’ll definitely be back next time I’m in Shanghai!
✈️ Massage at Shanghai Pudong Airport (PVG)
If you have a layover at the airport, you don't necessarily need to head into the city centre to treat yourself to a relaxing break. A massage at Shanghai Pudong Airport can be a convenient solution to recharge your batteries during a few hours' transit.
Dazhong Airport Hotel (between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2)

Airport lounges

Spa and massages outside the airport
Those with a long layover (at least 8-9 hours) who are able to leave the airport might consider treating themselves to a spa and massage experience in Shanghai at one of the large wellness centres located outside the airport.

💡 Top tip: before leaving the airport, it's always a good idea to factor in travel time, getting back through security, and any immigration procedures, especially if you have international connections.
