The hotel is exceptionally clean. Even though it's located in a busy downtown area, they've built a small garden, and every room faces this garden, making it very quiet. The staff are incredibly friendly, and the breakfast is good too.
On this special day, I chose to check in at Shanker hotel.
The warm service, delicious food and quality environment, everything is so good.
The hotel prepares decorations and cake very thoughtfully, surprised us.
Due to the late arrival time, the hotel also thoughtfully provided me with dinner order so that could enjoy it when we arrived.
Finally the food upexpectedly delicious.
I recommend you to choose Shanker hotel.
Wherever it’s a vacation or celebration it is best choice.

Thank you so much for your patient answers and thoughtful arrangements throughout the trip! Whether it was helping me coordinate rooms or providing travel advice, everything was done promptly and considerately. Your service was a real plus and even gave a handmade soap. Great! Looking forward to staying here again.
Very unique hotel love the buddhism vibe to the hotel. Near to Thamel yet in a quiet corner. Staffs are friendly and love the breakfast and complimentary cup of latte or cuppucino everyday! Nice view from the rooftop too!
We just spent five amazing nights at Moxy Kathmandu, and honestly, it was such a great stay. The hotel has this cool, stylish vibe, and everything felt super clean — the rooms were really comfy too. But what really made our trip was the service. The front desk, housekeeping, and restaurant staff were all so welcoming and polite, and their genuine, proactive attitude just warmed our hearts.
Special shout-out to Kritan from the restaurant — not only does he speak fluent Chinese and English, but his attentive service and friendly smile were definitely one of the highlights of our stay. Can’t recommend this place enough — easily a 10 out of 10.
Horrible Service – Not Worth the Price
My experience at this hotel was terrible. The only good thing about it is its location and the fact that the rooms are well-decorated and clean. However, there are many issues that made our stay unpleasant.
First, the hotel still uses traditional keys instead of automatic key cards, which is quite inconvenient. On our first night, we stayed on the third floor, but there was constant noise from the fourth floor, as if someone was dragging chairs non-stop. We tried calling reception around 2-3 AM, but no one picked up, and the noise continued throughout the night.
The next day, we repeatedly requested housekeeping between 3:30-4:00 PM, but no one came. Our room remained messy, and they didn’t even provide fresh complimentary water, which is usually replenished daily. When we asked for water, they told us we had to pay extra. Only after I pointed out that our room hadn’t been cleaned did they finally send water.
Breakfast was fine, but dinner was a disaster. We ordered the Royal Thali, which was served in a fancy silver plate, but the taste was disappointing. Anyone familiar with authentic desi flavors would agree that it was far from good. The portion sizes were small, and for the price they charge, even four-star hotels in Nepal provide much better service.
The biggest issue is the staff's lack of professionalism, especially at night. If guests face any problems, they simply don’t care. This hotel needs serious improvement in customer service and staff training. I would not recommend staying here unless they make significant changes.
Receptionist Sagar is very friendly and helpful. I’m arrived almost very late evening. I need to wake early morning to catch my flight. He said to me I will prepare morning coffee for you before you leave the hotel. He call for me Taxi and provide wonderful hospitality service. Really well done. Will come back.
This hotel is quite good, very new, and has a swimming pool with an excellent environment. The room service is great, always available when called. However, the breakfast is very average, comparable to what you'd find in a basic domestic setting. But for just over 500 RMB, it's not expensive, so I recommend staying here. There aren't many food options nearby, and it's mostly a local residential area, but the overall environment is still very pleasant. There's also a gym, and the rooftop bar is particularly relaxing, being an open-air terrace.

GGuest UserThe room made a decent first impression and did the bare minimum. But, it quickly became clear that it’s best suited for a very short stay. The bed was comfortable enough. Overall, the room is fine if you’re just passing through, but anything longer starts to feel like stretching it.
Staff presence around the hotel was limited. They clearly run on a lean operation, which can go either way. The guard in front of the elevator stood out in the best possible way and added a genuinely warm, human touch, which helped balance things out.
At check-in, I was given two complimentary cocktail coupons for the upstairs bar, which immediately lifted my spirits. This was a place I had enjoyed many times before and often recommended to friends and family. I had good memories of the atmosphere, the food, and the general vibe, so I went in with high hopes. In the past I had written raving 5-star reviews of their restaurant food and amazing service!
Unfortunately, the experience that followed didn’t live up to those expectations. What should have been a simple, enjoyable night out unraveled into confusion and unwelcoming interactions. Small moments piled up, the mood shifted, and it became clear that the experience had gone off the rails. Rather than force it, my group and I decided to take our time and money elsewhere. Sometimes you read the room and move on.
I returned to the hotel later that night and stayed over. Took a hot shower in the morning, loved the smell of their body wash, btw!
Another brief interaction during checkout reinforced the same theme: rigid, abrupt, and lacking the kind of hospitality that makes guests feel welcome.
All in all, it’s disappointing to see a place I once enjoyed and freely recommended lose its consistency and warmth. I’m no longer comfortable recommending it, and I’m not sure I would choose to return.
As for the unused cocktail coupon, I still have it. Any takers?
NNenanMy flight arrived in Kathmandu at 10 PM, and immigration took forever, so I didn't get out of the airport until almost 11 PM. I had emailed the hotel in advance to request an airport pick-up. I honestly thought no one would be there given how late it was and the lack of a contact number, but I saw my name card among the crowd waiting for cars at the exit. As a first-time visitor, this was such a pleasant and heartwarming surprise!
The car took me to the hotel, which is located in the bustling, central Thamel area. Right downstairs, there's a 'Chengdu Skewers' restaurant. The hotel itself is one of the tallest buildings in the vicinity and boasts a glass-enclosed restaurant on the 12th-floor rooftop, with a pool and spa on the 11th floor – quite a bold design! Breakfast was good, and the service was attentive. The location is convenient; a rickshaw takes just 6 minutes to Durbar Square.
The room size was adequate, but I was a bit disappointed to only get a room on the 4th floor after requesting a high-floor room. Also, the bathroom had a strong, foul odor that permeated the room even with the bathroom door closed. This backflow smell seems to be related to the plumbing and hygiene and definitely needs improvement. Other than that, everything else was great!
KKISMATHThe hotel location is excellent, fantastic breakfast, staff cooperation everywhere was excellent.
This hotel is not a four star hotel according to the Nepal hospitality...it clearly shows it's a three star hotel and all the facilities are related to three star or below.
The rooms are small,if staying with a couple or with a girlfriend is fine but if it's staying with two individuals it is very difficult moving and keeping the baggage, and other things.
The windows are fixed and can't open.
I will say again that the staff were fantastic.
MMatthew1122The grounds of the hotel are beautiful and the service, as well as the food is excellent. The rooms however, are very old and small (we were able to change rooms after bringing this up with reception). The location is in Thamel and getting to nearby attractions is convenient
BBernard VoonThis place is such a gem. Take slightly more than an hour direct from the Kathmandu airport. The views from the hotel is breathtaking.
The room was clean and big enough for 2 pax. I like the balcony where i could just sit to take in the views and gaze at the stars at night. Bathroom was impeccably clean and the towels are really good.
I participated in their morning hike organized by the hotel. The 1 hour i wished would lasted longer. We got a glimpse of the life around Nagarkot with amazing vistas.
I must commend all the staffs at the hotel. Top notch service from everyone. With smile and very friendly. Special mention of Binod who has been very attentive in his service.
GGuest UserThe hotel service is very professional, the breakfast is rich, and the front desk service is warm and thoughtful. When I asked for water, it was delivered quickly. There is also a hair dryer in the hotel, and the hot water for bathing is very comfortable.
Many Chinese people go to other places to find Chinese food, but they find that the most authentic Chinese food is on the ninth floor above the hotel. And the chocolate brownie here is very authentic. It was supposed to be eaten with ice cream, but I asked for hot ice cream, and the hotel immediately made hot ice cream. There is the largest farmer's market in Kathmandu next to the hotel, and 6 big apples cost less than 20 yuan. You can buy all kinds of vegetables and fruits here.
Because Kathmandu is often congested, if you connect with a flight, the hotel is very close to the airport, which is another big advantage.
HHouzhengmengThe hotel boasts an excellent location, modern facilities, and an elegant ambiance, with superb service. The breakfast spread was particularly impressive, and the staff even prepared a special farewell cake and ceremony. My only regret is that all the surfaces in the room were covered in a layer of dust, despite the overall appearance of cleanliness.
TTaracandra YoginBaudha Apart Hotel
The Air is much cleaner at these heights. A lovely view to be seen from the roof top upon the city down below. There is a room up there, for yoga, for exercise, or meditation. An elevator takes you there, but you can climb the stairs, if you wish, especially to prepare for a mountain trek – there is an ample storage room in that regard. Boudha Apart is owned by a Sherpa family, originally from Lukla, so there are many good contacts with the high mountain community.
The hotel is fairly new, and that means nothing is broken. That is to say also, that it is well maintained, that the guests are not a rowdy sort, and they are mindful of each other's tranquility. The rooms are well thought out, and many have a sun facing balcony. Both sink and shower have abundant hot water, adjustable as you like. On the ground floor is a large restaurant, with a diverse menu of local cuisine, and western comfort foods. The basement is a parking garage for cars and bikes. The staff is of good cheer, and supportive of your adventures and plans. They, most conveniently, pick up and deliver to the airport. There is also a car and driver for various tours, as you will.
And finally to say, the price to value is most fair, as one compares to other hotels in the region.
SSandipRanaIt was a lovely stay at The Terraces. The view to the Kathmandu valley was stunning and the mountain view during the clearer skies were worth it. The service was tiptop and everyone was so kind and helpful. The FnB Manger Suman has very friendly and do not hesitate to go extra miles to provide the best service. We will certainly be back to The Terraces when we are travelling to Nepal again.
