Stayed on a dinner and breakfast basis and really enjoyed all aspects of the stay. Food was good honest pub food which we really enjoyed. Room was clean and comfortable with everything needed. Breakfast was lovely with plenty of choice. Paul the manager was friendly and helpful a really nice guy hope he stays on. Only thing they needed was a bit of music playing as it was a very quiet evening.

We stopped here for a night slowly making our way up North from London. We had a great experience at the The Millstone Inn - Clare and all the staff were friendly and welcoming. The views of the valley below as you wind your way through the streets to the village are breathtaking. The restaurant / bar below is a great place for a cosy drink. The rooms upstairs were clean, comfortable and nicely updated. I had a great night sleep in a very comfortable bed. Would definitely recommend to anyone!

It pains me to write a bad review for any business, especially one I visited many years ago when the food, atmosphere, and service were spot on. This time around, the experience was so dreadful it felt like I was trapped in a live episode of Fawlty Towers. From the moment my family and I walked in, we were met with indifference. A lady, busy with paperwork just 2 feet away, didn't even glance up to acknowledge us. After what felt like an eternity, a young female staff member finally took our order, albeit with the grace of a sleepwalker. She managed to input our order but then vanished into the back without a word, leaving me standing there awkwardly until a more competent young man confirmed our order. The starters arrived quickly—perhaps too quickly, given they were clearly frozen. The real adventure began when I had to trek across the room to fetch utensils for my family, as our table was conspicuously bare. The mains arrived in staggered waves. My sons' and dad's meals came promptly, but my roast dinner went on a tour of other tables before finding its way to me, guided by one of the two 'waitresses' who seemed utterly lost. My wife's food joined us a few minutes later. Credit where it's due: the food looked decent. But the taste? A disaster. Overcooked pork that could double as sandpaper and a Yorkshire pudding that disintegrated at a touch. Even the mashed potatoes betrayed their instant origins. As we struggled through our meals, I had to prompt the chatty waitresses, who were obliviously engrossed in their conversation, to clear our table and bring the pre-ordered desserts. This led to another debacle where our single dessert order was contested, miscommunicated, and delayed, culminating in the arrival of a tasteless cheesecake topped with squirty cream. After the laughable dessert experience, we approached the bar to settle the bill, which amusingly included items we hadn't ordered. It was the cherry on top of this farcical feast. In the end, we couldn't help but laugh at the sheer absurdity of it all. I feel for the locals who have lost a once-great establishment and for the lone competent staff member trying to keep the sinking ship afloat. The manager should be ashamed. Let's hope Gareth Southgate assembles a more competent lineup for the Euros than what we encountered today. If you're in the mood for a real-life comedy show, this is the place. Just don't expect a satisfying meal or service.

The staff were not welcoming. Had no idea what they were doing. There was No one in the resturant and the staff still were not attentive. There was a Awful smell of BO coming from the staff which wasn't pleasant. The food took 45 minutes to come out and we only had a sandwich. I definately will not be returning to this place and would avoid.

Stayed here with a group of friends and was pleasantly surprised. Can't comment on lunch or dinner as we only ate breakfast at the hotel, but the room was spacious and clean, with a very comfy bed, good shower and lovely view across the valley. Breakfast was filling and plentiful. Great walks from the hotel, and Stanage Edge is just a few minutes' drive away.

This Inn is in a good location and the staff are friendly and very helpful. Our room was considerably smaller that anticipated and the furnishings very basic. The shower was better than the rest of the room. Clean bedding but slightly stained pillow cases. We were a little disappointed with the standard but couldn't fault the staff who were lovely. Limited menu but nice breakfast.

Perfect stay, bedding was hotel standard, food was lovely as were the staff! Parking across the road for about 60 cars! Walks available from the front door! Or walk into Hathersage for bars and restaurants. We did outdoor heated pool on the last day 3 o 3. FYI public transport is pants!

The overall stay was fine. Really good food. The only reason I'm giving 5 stars for service is because of the young lad behind the bar. He was very welcoming and polite. We did notice him training other staff and giving instructions on how to do tasks properly as they clearly didn't know what they were doing all the while staying calm and content. Also kudos to the man who served us breakfast.
