Socalco Nature Calheta

Beautiful sea view and the most pleasant welcome. Breakfast with fresh fruit, eggs in anyway you want it and with the best staff ever. Walking though the vineyard to your room is giving you the idea you are away from the world. Diner at Razao is great, fresh vegetables and every day a new discovery.

This hotel is a rare gem. I selected it based on the reviews in TripAdvisor and it only exceeded all our expectations. From the moment you enter you are greeted by the most gracious, helpful staff - everyone here is so kind and helpful. Our ocean view room was gorgeous. There are spectacular views in every direction. And the food!!! Can’t say enough about the quality. The chef is amazing and ingredients from the hotel’s garden are used. We hadn’t planned dinner for both nights but after our first night we signed up for a 2nd. Every space is so tastefully decorated. You feel like you’re staying at a private villa but with all the services available. So glad we stayed here. Such a nice change from the business of Funchal

Very welcoming and helpful staff. Interesting food with nice extra touches, like afternoon tea and cake plus welcome drink/snack on arrival. Well appointed, clean room with a wonderful view and serene setting. Felt safe staying as a solo traveller.

Wow, what an experience. The room was clean, the food was amazing, the staff were great. The gardens between the rooms were so great. The best hotel breakfast and dinner. The location is great for the west side of Madeira. Nothing bad about this property.

During our recent trip to Portugal, we stayed here for three nights. We loved our stay and highly recommend it to anyone traveling to Madeira. The food at the restaurant was delicious, you could tell that all the cooking was done with passion. Everyone was willing to help, and there was a supermarket nearby for anything needed. The views were amazing (we never wanted to leave). It was definitely not our last time here!

We've just spent a much-needed and wonderfully restorative week at Socalco in Calheta, Western Madeira. Combining luxury with a total lack of pretension and staff who look after your every need but also leave you completely alone is quite a feat! The hotel is perched on the cliffs above the Atlantic with spectacular views of both the sea and terraced cliffs themselves. We spent each day walking the incredible levadas, swimming in the sea, going whale watching and simply reading in the sun. The food at the hotel is a highlight. Everything is either grown in their extensive garden, or caught or produced locally. It is so fresh and so creatively and beautifully cooked. We ate at the restaurant every night and feel it was a balm to both body and soul! The wine list is also delicious and interesting, with some home-produced bottles among the best we drank. All in all it was a heaven-sent week and we can't wait to return.

This resort is the ultimate in beauty, peace, nature, and kindness. The rooms are so incredibly unique while honoring the natural setting that they are in. Our room was built to enjoy the views while leaving the rock walls intact. Miguel greeted us warmly, gave us a tour and made sure we had everything we needed. There are many quiet places you can enjoy outside of your room. While the rooms are gorgeous, it is all about the outdoors and the views. Oh and the FOOD! Breakfast is included with your stay and does not disappoint. It is definitely not your run of the mill hotel breakfast. When we told them we had an early flight, they gave us a lunch box of food to take with us for the next day. Now for dinner... Razao takes farm to table to a much higher level. They literally are picking the food from the terraces all afternoon to prepare for dinner. The food is phenomenal! I will write a separate review on Razao's page, but try it!!!

We came at stayed at Socalco for 4 nights in late March. Even though the island was experiencing a tropical depression (and it rained the entire time), we LOVED our stay here and hope to come back again one day. We had the room that sat in a cave and it was truly the coolest, most unique room we've ever stayed in. Everything was exceptionally clean, and the grounds were absolutely beautiful. It's so neat how (most) of Madeira and including Socalco, uses every bit of their land for growing fruits, vegetables and herbs. Breakfast here was wonderful- fresh fruit and juices, cheeses, ham, homemade breads, and an egg dish. We did a tasting dinner here one night and it was also a very lovely and tasty experience (and well priced at 4 dishes for 65 euro per person). The hotel was in a wonderful location (Calheta), about 45 min from Funchal, and hour to Lorenco and Pico Airero, and 25 min to the 25 Fontes trail. Grocery store and gas station very close by, and many wonderful restaurants right down the road. There is a lovely beach right across the street from the hotel as well. Nothing is necessarily walkable from the hotel as it sits up on a massive hill. Sometimes parking was a bit tricky but we managed just fine. We loved our stay here and will most certainly be back when visiting Madeira.

5 from 5. Very stylish rooms, wonderful view from hill to ocean. Cleaning each day. Small kitchen in room, but advise to use restaurant. Food very good: as for breakfast as for dinner. Each day other cake☺️. You may sit outside and enjoy coffee and view. Team is very friendly and ready to assist you.
