Vine Valley Inn
4.2/548 Reviews
Probably one of the worst hotels we have stayed in and we have stayed in many over the last 50 years . Cannot believe all the hyped reviews!! Where were they staying ?Photographs of bedrooms bear little reflection of ours. For retro read road side furniture that even your granny would refuse and grubby carpets that must be older than us and definitely not quality. Certainly nothing quaint or exceptional especially if you know anything about art or antiques.Insistence on paying cash too for 2 nights.we suspect this wad to get around Booking.com commission as we got a cancellation notice shortly after booking in Cobwebs on dirty windows and ants route marching around the room. As for the bathroom and shower curtain. If you are going to the Valley find a Valley to stay in preferably with a vine and access to the outstanding scenery? There are many other ones to choose from and wish we had. We had booked our room through Booking.com and the ”our epos had gone down” excuse to take cash was a way of avoiding commission to them as we received an email saying our booking had been cancelled, shortly after arrival. Very suspect.
Woodlane Cottages Hunter Valley
4.8/56 Reviews
The cabins are situated on a large peaceful property close to all of the Pokolbin and Lovedale vineyards in the Hunter Valley. It is also 1 minute from the Hunter Valley zoo which is very much worth the visit, especially for kids. Cabins/Villas are immaculately clean and very functional. The grounds are spacious and well maintained and the hosts very friendly, if they are needed. There is also a good sized pool. I would recommend for couples, small groups and young families.
Aussie Rest Motel

It was just an overnight stay for my father and I to attend a family wedding the next day. At 88 my father is unsteady on his feet so he benefited from being in Room 1 which is equipped with rails, no shower hob, etc in the bathroom. The rooms are dated with eclectic furniture, so not to everyone's tastes if you expect something modern. The host is very friendly, the rooms are very clean and everything appears to be well-maintained. One of the nicest motel stays I've had in a while. For dinner we ate next door at the Australia Hotel. Both meals were great.
Hunter Valley Travellers Rest Motel
3.9/525 Reviews
I stayed at this motel for a week on my travels through NSW, and would definitely stay again. Bob and his wife were very accommodating and knowledgeable of the Hunter region. We stayed in one of the front rooms, but hardly heard any noise during the night, even with the windows slightly open, despite the motel being on the main road into Cessnock. Although you can easily drive past and miss it as the motel and its car park are set back from view. The room itself was standard for a motel room - comfy bed, Aircon, small bar fridge, kettle, tea/coffee, good size shower, and a good size desk to work from. Internet access was also good, and they do have WiFi available. Only downside most people would see is that there isn't much in walking distance, so you'll need to drive. The main centre of Cessnock is 5mins up the road, with supermarkets and restaurants around. Pokolbin is about 11kms up the road, an easy drive, where you'll find all the wineries - sone of which have restaurants also. If I was coming back to the Hunter Valley again in the future, I'd definitely stay here again.
Peden's Hotel
3.1/523 Reviews
We stayed in a double and single room, which was certainly spacious enough for the three of us. The room was air-conditioned and the bed, comfortable. Bathroom facilities were just down the hallway, and there was a communal fridge nearby where guests could store their drinks and food. The restaurant downstairs had a good selection of food, and the bar was open until 1.30am if you wanted to stay up late and catch up with friends over a drink. Daniel, who was the manager on the afternoon we were there, helped me with a few car troubles, and I found the rest of the staff friendly and courteous. I would recommend this hotel if you are looking to stay in Cessnock for one or two nights.
