After driving most of the day from Calais ferry port to check in, we arrived around 4:30 PM. We walked up to the room only to find that many of the lights did not work. Went back down to reception while they called maintenance and it appeared to be a simple fix of a breaker switch. That’s fine even though I was exhausted when we got here and then going up to the room down to reception and back again with no elevator was the last thing I felt like doing. Be that as it may, we had inquired whether we could get a different room with a better view and was told they were fully booked. But at the time they knew of the light problem what was their plan going to be? We couldn’t function without a light in the bathroom, there was absolutely no light working in the bathroom, so what would they have done? If it hadn’t been a breaker I’m sure they have a back up room since most hotels always have one emergency option. So while sitting in reception, the manager and the two front desk staff we’re trying to decide how they were going to handle the room change request all the while discussing this in French. The manager in French referred to us as “Americans”. How that’s relevant I have no idea when discussing a room change but that word translates quite easily from French to English. So does the word champagne which she uttered. So I can only surmise she thought throwing a glass of champagne at those beer-drinking Americans (we don’t drink beer) would be enough to placate us. Simply saying, we don’t have anything to offer you as far as room change would’ve been sufficient rather than bringing our nationality into it which is completely irrelevant. On her way out of reception, she smiles at me and says bonjour. It’s been a long time since I’ve been to France. The first time I found the French to be quite rude. So far, I see that hasn’t changed.

Such a beautiful place, in a beautiful part of the world. The reception was so friendly and helpful. The restaurant was excellent for dinner, and the breakfast was so good. The staff were friendly and accomodating. The grounds are beautiful, and we enjoyed the birds singing out our window evening and morning. The historic building feels like history around you, and should. This location is easy access with car to all the Battle of Normandy sites, WW2 museums (Memorial Museum in Caen was great), Bayeax Tapestries, and Calvados cider farms. (Dont miss brunch at Ferme du Billy!) We miss this place already. So relaxing.

The staff is amazing. The property is better than advertised and they upgraded our room too. We even extended our stay because we just didn’t want to leave. It’s a great home spot for touring the landing beaches and the gorgeous countryside.

This is our second stay at this beautiful property! We love it for the location and ease of travel from CDG as well as a great home base to explore all the villages and history in the area. The rooms are well done and unique, the staff is wonderful, and the food very good. We will stay here again and definitely recommend!

Charming, old world and very convenient to the D-Day beaches (which we had come to visit). The staff is friendly and speaks decent English (far better than our French). The restaurant is quite good, no reason to eat elsewhere. And the breakfast buffet is substantial.

I am so glad to have discovered this wonderful place to stay in Normandy. The location is excellent for exploring D-Day sites and Bayeux. Our room was all stone and wood beams, oozing with historic charm. The bathroom was modern and spotless and the bed really comfortable. If you don't want to have to deal with a lot of stairs, let the hotel know in advance. We made advance arrangements for dinner in the restaurant the night we checked in, and the atmosphere and food were excellent. The next night we had a charcuterie board in the small bar for dinner and enjoyed it. Breakfasts are hearty. The grounds are lovely, with roses blooming everywhere and plenty of places to sit outside to enjoy the setting. The original 13th century part of the building is where luggage is stored, and when I asked about it, the front desk attendant took us to see the tower, which was a real treat. Finally, a note about the staff--everyone was uniformly friendly and helpful. I haven't always found this to be the case in this post-pandemic world, but at La Ferme de la Ranconniere, everything was perfect. Highly recommended.

It would be nice if the breakfast started earlier for travelers. You need to work on the steps around the entry way. My husband twisted his ankle walking out of the building. Oatmeal At breakfast would be nice

Gorgeous property conveniently located to all five Normandy invasion beaches. The location is in a quiet hamlet with beautiful views on all sides. Rooms are well appointed, the food is fabulous and the service is first-rate. We throughly enjoyed our stay and enthusiastically recommend.
