The location is fantastic, right on the Royal Mile in the heart of the Old Town. The facilities are a bit old-fashioned, but the staff are very friendly. Be aware that the reception can be a bit tricky to find, as it's directly across the street from the actual rooms. Considering it's a hostel, it offers pretty good value for money.

A typical Holiday Inn hotel. We booked a triple family room with a double bed and a sofa bed. The room wasn't very big, but it was quite clean. The hotel's location is actually on Cowgate Street, which intersects with the Royal Mile, and it's on the street directly below it. Edinburgh's streets are quite hilly, so dragging luggage around was a real struggle.

Stayed at St Christopher’s Hostel, Edinburgh for a night and it was a good budget choice.
The location is excellent, right in the city centre and close to the Old Town and main attractions. Check-in was easy and the staff were friendly and helpful.
The dorm was basic but comfortable enough for a short stay. It can get a bit noisy, so earplugs help. Bathrooms and common areas were generally clean considering how busy it is.
Overall, it’s a social, well-located hostel—great for meeting people and exploring the city, but not ideal if you want total quiet. Perfect for a short stay in Edinburgh.

I absolutely loved this place. This was my second visit to Edinburgh, and after staying at Kickassgrassmarket on my first visit, I decided to stay here again. The service was great, the cleanliness was great, and the location was fantastic. I really enjoyed my stay here. I'm sure I'll be back on my next visit.

When we arrived our room was ready an hour early which was a good start and it only got better. The staff where all very helpful and knowledgeable. The breakfast had a great selection and was kept well filled, the swimming pool although not huge was never busy but it was January and it pleasantly warm. Overall a lovely hotel in a great location only 15 mins walk from Princess street and about 10mins from Edinburgh Castle. We had a lovely stay and would stay there again.

Room has no air con, and many steps up the lobby. Many basic amenities cost money (such as slippers)
, parking additional charge at £10/nights
Locations is good, Victoria street literally just outside of the hotel.
Endinburgh Castle view is available from the main entrance of the hotel.

I really enjoyed my four days. Wonderful hotel the team was very friendly and helpful at all times of the day. Great location easy to get to from the Station/airport. Good trams service along Princes Street. Plenty of buses along South Bridge which is a short walk. Enjoyed the spa facilities especially the swimming pool. The lounge near the reception area is a little chilly but a nice spot to relax with a warm drink. Overall a very pleasant stay. Would recommend.
Rooms
Good size room, fantastic shower and products. Bed was very comfortable. It was a tad cold so I requested a blanket which was very snug. Bonus having a fridge and complimentary water nice touch. Tea/coffee try was good but would be great to have some hot chocolate.
Nearby activities
Holyrood Palace and gardens on your doorstep along with great views of Arthur Seat. Five minutes walk to the Royal Mile.
Food and drinks
There is a restaurant and bar in the hotel. I found the food a bit hit and miss to be honest. Breakfast is great with a great choice in food for all palettes. Warm friendly service.

Great accommodation for solo travellers. When I arrive I was met with a very friendly receptionist who briefed me on the stay. The reception and the bedrooms were in separate buildings for me (Old Town) but only across the road. The beds was comfortable and I was fortunate enough to have roommates who were quiet. Toilets and showers are separate, and it is clean every now and then. 4 stars because it is quite tight inside the shower the overall really good for what price you pay and would definitely come back again.

More like a 3⭐️ than 4 stars hotel. Room is average size and toilet is tiny. Water got splash everywhere after shower. Everything is old and needs maintenance in the room we got. We checked in on a Friday night and loud music can still be heard past midnight.

Great location in the heart of the Grassmarket with everything close by. The hotel sits a little low so there is no real view of the castle, but the convenience of the area more than makes up for it.
Amenities were good and thoughtfully put together. The little rubber duck for bath time was a charming touch and the room itself was clean, comfortable and well equipped.
I really appreciated the hotel’s sustainability approach, especially the way they manage water use. It is encouraging to see a hotel taking practical steps to reduce its environmental impact.
Overall, a comfortable stay in a brilliant central spot with some lovely small touches.

GGuest UserExcellent standard of rooms - top spec bathroom & top high Quality toiletries- nothing at all out of place , a credit to housekeeping! Breakfast has everything you would want, plentiful coffee fruit juice to choose from, plus the best smoked salmon around! Overall no faults. LleonconnieThe room was incredibly spacious, with a separate living room. I'd definitely want to stay here long-term if I visit Scotland again. The room was very quiet, and the living room sofa converts into a bed. All the appliances were high-end brands like Dyson and Smeg. The only downside was the lack of on-site parking. There's an NCP car park under the bridge a bit further down, costing around £25 per night. The hotel is very close to the castle, about a 5-minute walk, and about 10 minutes from the city center. There are plenty of restaurants nearby, which is very convenient.

CCleo.C.Ideal location within budget
I used to study in Edinburgh uni and my student hall is right opposite - that’s why we chose here
The value is pretty good but I won’t give it 10/10 Here are the reasons
1. The towels have fluff coming out all the time
2. Bathroom hand wash sink doesn’t go down properly
3. Shower pressure fairly low
4!! The WiFi!! There’s barely any connection within our room. The 5G got down to 4G on 1-2 bar so even we use our own data is very slow…
The wifi gets way better in the Lobby and in public corridors but who wants to chill in the lobby after a whole day of walking…
My husband got severe dry eye symptoms at the end of the trip (it may not have something to do with the hotel but he wakes up every single night)
The hotel has very good amenities that benefits every member who stays. but within the room i can always figure out something that doesn’t match up the 4star hotel standard things.

MM514219****The room was very clean, and the location couldn't be better. It's practically right next to Market Street Station – just a short walk to the left after you exit. The back door leads directly to the Royal Mile, and the front door, after crossing the station, takes you straight to Princes Street. All the classic sights are within walking distance.
The only minor complaint is that there's ongoing renovation work on the building behind, and we were assigned a second-floor room facing that side. There was a possibility of being woken up by noise every morning.
Next time I stay, I'll definitely request a high-floor room with a view of the hill.

PPangouThe hotel's location near the train station is a huge plus, making transport incredibly convenient. We received attentive service, and the breakfast was quite good. However, Google Maps gave misleading directions, which led me to carry my luggage up five flights of stairs. It turns out there's an elevator, but it's not clearly marked with the hotel's logo, making it challenging for first-time visitors to find.

FFangaodexingkongThe location of the hotel is invincible (the house in the lower right corner of the second picture). Turn right after exiting the Market Street exit of the train station and walk for one minute. You don’t have to worry about carrying large luggage. When you cross the road, you will see Prince Street Park and Waverley Bridge (where the photo was taken). After crossing the bridge, you will see Prince Street. Turn right and walk for 15 minutes to Calton Hill. Turn right and walk for 3 minutes to the Royal Mile. There are many restaurants along the way. It is very close to the University of Edinburgh, Edinburgh Castle, and the Art Museum. The staff’s service is very good. When they meet people from non-English speaking countries, they will communicate with guests at a very slow speed. It is also very convenient to store luggage. There is also an airport bus at the door of the hotel.

GGuest UserRooms were tired, flooring had been badly replaced, fire doors had been cut and had up to 25mm gap below with not fire stop, blinds looked like they were cut with chainsaw, tv was outdated and not very responsive on the remote, no usb sockets any where, doors in shower in ensuite kept falling off, was a leak in the sink in ensuite, beds were ok but not very comfy, single beds kept rolling around the room as were on casters on a laminate floor, put sign up for room service twice but room was not serviced, had to go to reception when we needed to top up the breakfast.
Staff on front of house were very helpful and responsive.

JJannCindyThe location is excellent, within walking distance of the Old Town attractions and the train station, with plenty of supermarkets and restaurants nearby. The hotel facilities are comprehensive, including an elevator. The family room we booked had one large bed and two single beds, and it was very spacious. We were given a room on the 4th floor, which was very quiet. Toothbrushes, toothpaste, and slippers are not provided, so you need to bring your own. Coffee and black tea are available in the room, and you can also get them at the front desk. The buffet breakfast is £11.99 for adults, and children can join for just an additional £1.
Daily cleaning is not provided; you need to notify the front desk or hang the 'clean my room' sign on the door for towel changes and trash disposal. There's only 30 minutes of free internet per day. Considering the cheap price we paid, I still think the hotel is quite good.

RResipaWe booked a twin-private room. The room was small, so we had to put the luggage under the bed.
If you want your room to be cleaned, then you have to book the room cleaning by scanning a QR code, 1 day before. We did it, but then no one cleaned our room. We told the reception, and they said they didn't receive our request. Hence, we had to re-book for the following day, and we told the reception as well. Only then, our room got cleaning. They cleaning was the basic one, emptied the trash bin, and refilled the toilet tissue. They wouldn't make up your bed.
The hostel is strategically located, but to shorten the length, you have to take the stairs step (around 300m only). If you are with heavy luggage, then it will be around 700m from the train station (wheel-chair access street)
