Stayed at the Park Head Hotel (room 24) for 11 nights while training in a new job. Hotel: Really lovely location and grounds with plenty of parking and outdoor space to enjoy drinks etc. Room: really lovely decor and ambience, bed was really comfy and plenty of pillows. Shower was excellent with a standard shower head and a rainfall head. Only I issue I noticed was that when I returned to my room some days, the housekeeping staff had left lights on in the room for no reason. Staff: The staff were excellent and really attentive. As I was there for several days, the Restaurant Supervisor, Sasha, and the other restaurant staff got to know what I liked from the bar and were really friendly. The Duty Manager, Andrew, was really professional; I had a query on my bill and he resolved it without any issue. I booked the room before going on holiday and the manager allowed me to leave my car in their car park while I had my holiday and then came back to it a few days later. Food: The dinner menu was fairly extensive with plenty to choose from and reasonably priced. The portions were really generous and really tasty. The breakfast was also really good with plenty of choice from continental pastries, cereal toast etc or hot options (or both). Cons: The mobile signal in the area is somewhat patchy; I am with EE but can't comment about other networks. The WiFi was free but also wasn't particularly quick and sometimes froze; a good thing if you want to get a break from digital world. The road alongside the hotel can get very busy so can be a bit tricky pulling out of the hotel to join the main road.

First class stay, spacious, modern superking room. Clean, fresh sheets etc. and lovely smelling toiletries. Staff are super efficient and so friendly. In particular wanted to mention Sasha, for whom nothing was too much trouble in the dining room/bar. We had room 11, at the back of the property, but I would imagine any rooms facing the busy road would be extremely noisy. Ate dinner in the restaurant, well cooked food, well presented. Breakfast has lots of choice. If we're ever in the area again we'd definitely stay here.

This was the perfect stop-over for our visit to the Auckland Project. Thank to staff for being so helpful and friendly. We had a very quiet room in the courtyard, which was spotlessly clean and well-appointed. The supper was very good indeed, with the most delicious garden soup.

The location and accommodation are great, rooms were lovely, good size, comfortable and a huge tv screen. Plus most importantly clean! The bathroom was also great and again clean. One upgrade I would recommend is blackout blinds. Unfortunately the breakfast was just ok, it might have won awards in the past but it certainly won’t now. Most if not all the cooked breakfast was done in a microwave, the sausages looked anemic, the mushrooms were bland, the eggs didn’t have much flavour and the bacon a bit tough, plus the portions were very small. One of us asked for poached egg and got just one egg! Plus you only got one hash brown. Lastly the coffee didn’t taste great at all. It’s a great shame because the accommodation is wonderful, quiet location ample parking but the breakfast really lets the side down. So I hope they change it soon. Also we met another couple in the car park, who felt the same about the breakfast. We would return, but unless we see and hear drastic changes have been made, we won’t be ordering breakfast again.

We needed a room for one night after a concert and this place came up. Reasonably priced and we were really surprised by the very high specification of all the amenities. Everything clean and comfortable, from walking through the door to the high quality finish of the room. We added breakfast in the morning, and pleasantly surprised to get the same rate as if we’d pre-booked it. The staff were all really friendly and helpful. 10/10

Absolutely wonderful hotel. Fabulous decor, beautiful spotless rooms, charming courtyard to enjoy a drink on a sunny afternoon, welcoming bar, delicious evening meal and breakfast. The staff deserve an extra special mention because they all went the extra mile to make our stay perfect. Excellent value for money - perfect location. Do check out The Auckland Project.

This 3 star hotel is easily far beyond that rating, I don't personally understand why it is not at minimum a 4 but take into account quality of food and staff engagement why it isn't 5 star. The breakfast is amazing with so many options, I have tried the full English which was delightful and the eggs Benedict and that was the first time I had tried it and was very impressed. They have an excellent Sunday dinner. The room's are very well presented and the beds are so comfortable. I had also noticed it was pet friendly and even though I don't have a pet it is nice to see a clean hotel which has a positive pet policy. The front of house staff and always there to help and assist in any way they can, the kitchen staff are always producing quality food and the waiting staff are polite and well presented. I have found all staff amazing and I won't name names as they all deserve credit as a complete unit. Price wise people may scoff as it is a 3 star plus hotel but it certainly doesn't present like one as it is a sleeping 4 to 5 star with excellent links to some of the most beautiful places in Durham. If you consider staying here please do it and you will not regret the stay.

Great experience staying here - the building is very average (think a nicer version of a Travelodge), but it's clean, well maintained, the food is good (especially the breakfast) and the people are LOVELY and super helpful and make all the difference. Brilliant value for money.

Fantastic Sunday lunch- the starters particularly the pork belly were amazing and the roasts were excellent- huge portions! The staff were amazing especially as our dog had been missed off the booking form so they quickly turned around a table for us!
