Hotel la Gemma

When we arrived at Hotel La Gemma, it had been opened a grand total of 15 days. But no one could tell because Gianluca, the Hotel Manager, was in charge and everything was already in full swing and running smoothly. Gianluca himself showed us to our suite and made us feel welcomed. He was warm, engaging and very helpful throughout our 3-night stay. He even showed me how to make the stamps stick on my postcard by gently peeling off the back of them - they were adhesive like stickers. Before Gianluca came to the rescue, I was licking the back of the stamps like a fast-melting gelato but they still wouldn't stick. Gianluca also patiently walked me through the Tren Italia website to book our train tickets to Venice - all on my mobile phone. Eduardo at the Front Desk was earnest, lively and of great assistance. At breakfast, Luca the waiter was very good at explaining the extensive menu and choices available. He was solicitous and anticipated our needs. We missed him when he was not on duty. The hotel’s location is excellent, right in the heart of Florence and a stone’s throw from the Post Office. It is a very short walk to Piazza Republica, Ponte Vecchio and the beautiful landscape of the River Arno. The rooms are very well-appointed; huge comfy beds with fluffy pillows, a wide array of fragrant toiletries and, thick body-encompassing towels. The impression is one of old-world sophistication and luxury. We really enjoyed our stay and look forward to returning to Hotel La Gemma.

Relais Santa Croce by Baglioni Hotels

On the event of my husband's 70th birthday, I reached out to the Relais Santa Croce directly for assistance in creating a memorable trip for ourselves and 12 of his closest friends. Flora, and ALL the staff at this beautiful 'Palazzo Hotel', could not have been more helpful, accommodating and sincere. They assisted in creating an amazing 5 days in Florence, uniquely curated to all our needs - museum tours, wine tours in the countryside and fantastic restaurant reservations. Besides Flora, the General Manager and the excellent front desk staff....Carlo and the Food and Beverage staff, facilitated an amazing in-suite Welcome Dinner for 12 people, special group lunches, and a kept our in-suite hospitality bar stocked and operational for 5 straight days. All these services were done with exceptional professionalism but also warm and sincere friendliness. Even though we were a bigger party, and lots of 'moving parts' we were never made to feel that any of our requests were a bother, or not achievable. In summary, although we have stayed all over the world in 5 and 6 star hotels, and in many Relais & Chateaux ....I would consider this one of the top 10 hotels we have ever stayed in in regards to service. Thank you for a truly amazing trip.

It was a very pleasant stay, although I didn't get to spend much time in the hotel as I was just in Florence for one night, breakfast was nice with variety of choices, staff were friendly and can speak English, room was clean, AC was working perfectly, everything including the duomo was in walkable distance (only like 10 mins walk to the duomo). I had to leave the room key to the reception everytime I leave the hotel which felt a bit strange at first, however apparently this is a norm there as my brothers who were staying at another hotel at the time had to do the same as well. Last but not least, you can have a fantastic view of the city at rooftop of hotel, especially nice to see the sunrise! Will definitely stay here again, highly recommended!

Hotel has many pros - great location, beautiful ambience and the rooms are very clean and well maintained. Unfortunately we felt slightly let down by the customer service. There was a slight misunderstanding upon check in - whilst our rate was room only, we were asked what time we wanted to have breakfast- and neither my husband nor I realised this was not part of the rate and thus would entail a fee. Whilst I will be more careful in future it’s a very easy mistake especially when having made a number of bookings! Whilst I paid the additional 40 euro, I feel that the staff could have approached this misunderstanding better. I feel a discussion should have taken place before my card was charged. I did speak to the manager regarding the issue but I feel that the decision had been made and she had been advised we knew about the additional charge. Whilst I agree it placed her in a predicament, and that she was very professional regarding the matter, I do feel it’s instances like this that show true customer service- and that was not displayed here.
Palazzo dei Ciompi Suites

My Fiancé and I booked to stay at the Palazzo Dei Ciompi Suites between 17th -21st of April. We made the booking in January. We had booked the Penthouse Beatrice suite, which is meant to be the best standard of room at the hotel, as we were celebrating our engagement. When we arrived to check-in, we were handed keys to a room on the second floor. We pointed out that this couldn't be correct as the Penthouse would be on the top floor. The receptionist looked at us in a very confused manner. She investigated further and could see we had booked the Penthouse for the dates of our stay, but somehow the room had been double booked. We were unable to stay in the Penthouse room on the first night of our stay and we were essentially told there was nothing else they could do. The room we had booked was available the following night. There was no apology. We asked about how this would be remedied, namely because we were not getting what we paid for. We were offered a bottle of wine and we highlighted that this was inadequate. We also never received the bottle of wine that was offered. The Penthouse Suite did have stunning views. Compared to other reviews, we did have hot water and the shower and bath were in working order. However, the LED blue lights were on the whole time and there was no way of switching them off. The remote seemed not to work. We asked to speak with the manager but, conveniently, they were not available the entirety of our stay. The receptionist confirmed via Whatsapp that the manager would approve a refund for the first night, provided we go through our booking provider. I have done this and our booking provider is now informing me that the hotel are ignoring their calls and emails. Unfortunately, I would not recommend to stay here. All of the above would have been forgotten had we received the basic standard level of customer service. For the price we paid, I would not say the hotel is value for money.
