Hale Maluhia Country Inn

Very weird creepy vibe here. Felt 'watched' the entire time by the family that lives upstairs. No breakfast, except for a cookie. This is NOT a Bed and Breakfast!! Our room was filthy. Carpet was coming up and looked like it hadn't been cleaned in how knows how long. There are families living here too, so you're embedded with the owners, their kids, and long time renters. So Welrd!! Had a family bang on our door in the middle the night. They were super sick (covid?) and we got sick after returning ourselves. I know it was from staying here. Owner family leaves odd religious preachy stuff all over and has the nerve to leave tip jars all over the property. For what?? Do NOT stay here. A rip off. I've read all the reviews, and the owner will respond to this with some passive aggressive stuff like - "Hmm. We're puzzled why you didn't tell us your room was filthy when you got there." Or, "I'm confused - if you didn't like breakfast, why didn't you tell us?" Cause I didn't want to interact with you, that's why. You made me feel uncomfortable!! We just wanted to be left alone and get through it. I even had to record my 'walk through' with the owner when we left because of reports of BS charges after people left. Plus, you're 20 minutes from downtown. I travel a lot and never had I had an odd experience like this. What a letdown, but what a fascinating story if you're into that stuff. Someone should do a Netflix doc on these people that own this joint.

Felt more like a bnb. If you don't like noise, don't get a room in the main building. Super nice folks. Great hottub.

This is a very special place. It feels like you are a part of the island in a way no commercial hotel could make you feel. Dave and Miriam are the best! They take good care of their guests and run a very nice country inn. If you are looking to stay in Kona , this is the BEST place to stay!!

Nice property, beautiful setting, friendly owners, but over-priced for what it offers.

The bed was so hard, it got harder and harder to get up each day. Otherwise Dave was very friendly and there were a lot of nice amenities to this place.

Loved our stay. Very quiet and peaceful. The frogs at night were an added bonus, like a sleep machine, but better. Coffee was great. The kitchen was amazing and very clean. It was a balm to the soul, and the Christian undertones was a welcome bonus.

It was a quiet area, the owners are personable and takes care of issues asap and helpful. Beautiful setting outside and clean.

My wife and I liked the feel of being in nature. Loved the sounds at night with the chirping Couqui frogs. Hot tub was great. Hosts were very nice and were genuine. Mature trees and flowers along with the raised levels made it interesting. I would recommend to any of my friends. Clean and cozy made it feel like home.

Coolest spot to stay on the big island. Room was clean, views were beautiful..like staying in the jungle! There is even a hot tub. Close to everything so it’s easy to come back for a midday lunch break if you need. Would definitely stay here again if we are back to the island.
