Hotel Fenix Gran Meliá - The Leading Hotels of the World

Madrid|0.44km from Mantequería Daniel Manzano
We'd stopped over at this property a number of years ago, and had been so impressed with the service, especially the Leaders Club recognition (a triple upgrade!), that this was our natural first choice for a couple of nights in Madrid. We'd already ”spent” a pre-arrival upgrade on this reservation which had been confirmed (a benefit of the LHW loyalty programme). Usually, every other Leading Hotel we have ever stayed at, offered a further complimentary upgrade on top of this, but not here. This was especially surprising given the triple upgrade that we'd received previously. To cut a long story short, I was told that they did have a room available to upgrade me to (I was physically shown the room) but I'd have to pay for it in full. Given we were here for about 36 hours, we declined. I was told that the manager would be in touch with me the next day, but we didn't hear from anyone throughout our whole stay. In fact, even on check-out there was no question about ”how was your stay?”, nothing. All the receptionist wanted to do was take my payment in the fastest possible time with the least interaction. The room that we'd booked was small (despite not being the entry level category) with classical decor that felt very tired and old fashioned. The air con was either on or off - there didn't seem to be any scope to control the fan speed. As you might expect, it was not the silent, you barely know that it's on type, this was of the jet engine noise level variety. I needed to work whilst I was there so I was given the fast wi-fi connection access to use, however, whilst it was very fast when it worked, there were periods where it just cut out. I think this was to do with the wireless network signal as the actual connection was super-fast when it was available. This was so unreliable that I ended up just hot-spotting on my phone. I was busy all day on calls so didn't have the time for someone to try and fix it. Not really what you'd expect in a 5 star hotel in this day and age. The bathroom was very small, and one of the basins didn't drain properly (not sure how this could've gone unnoticed when it was being cleaned. The shower was the type which works off of the bath mixer - again not what you'd expect in a modern hotel. The faux marble effect wall tiles were also surprising in a hotel that is supposedly 5 star. Despite the room being street-facing, the two layers of double glazing was very effective so the sleep quality was good. There was also a small entrance lobby which had an internal door so there was no noise from the corridor either. All in all this isn't really what I'd call a 5 star hotel and the experience felt far from generous - additional Nespresso type capsules were available at EUR 1 per capsule. 1) How many people really request more and 2) when they do, can't this be included in the room rate (which isn't exactly cheap)? This is just petty, and a perfect example of the management's mindset which goes quite some way in explainin

H10 Puerta de Alcalá

We stayed at the H10 Hotel Puerta de Alcalá at the end of May and middle of June. The hotel was very comfortable and well located. We particularly enjoyed the rooftop deck with great views of Madrid and Retiro Park. The rooms were very comfortable, quiet, and clean. On a day trip I mistakenly left my camera bag in a taxi. On my return to the hotel later that day, Juan C. at reception helped me begin communications with the taxi company to try to locate the camera bag. For the next few weeks after I had returned home to Canada, Juan diligently followed up and coordinated with the taxi company, organized payment for retrieval of the camera bag then prepared it for shipment to my home in Canada. He went above and beyond the usual service expected at a hotel and I wanted to point out his excellent assistance. Robert S.

The hotel is perfectly located for those looking for a strategic point in Madrid, near restaurants and shops. Although its facilities show signs of ageing and need a reform, it is important to point out that the hotel is super clean. This is not a luxury place, and the originally worrying photos of the hotel do not just make up to its real atmosphere. Personally, the experience is better than the images suggest, and the proximity with the best restaurants and shops in Madrid is a great attraction.
NH Madrid Lagasca

I was in Madrid for business for 5 days and I stayed in this nice hotel, which is in a great location and classy city area for restaurants, caffès, bars and shopping. The hotel is nice and my room was very comfortable. Most of all the NH Lagasca Staff was very kind, helpful and very efficient on all fronts. I had a very good ”customer experience”! I will definitely be going back there soon.
Totem Madrid, a Small Luxury Hotel of the World

This is a great hotel. Beautiful decor, very kind, welcoming, and efficient front desk folks, nicely decorated, quiet, and comfortable room. We arrived late at night after a long day of travel, and were really happy to be treated so well by the front desk people. It was close to midnight and we were starving, so they took our bags to our room and ushered us into the bar/lounge where an attentive young man brought us a great salad (very fresh, perfectly dressed and seasoned) and a grilled cheese/turkey sandwich, which was really good. You can tell a lot about a place by the salad, and after one bite we knew we were going to be fine. The neighborhood is one of the best in Madrid — wide beautiful tree lined boulevards mixed with cozy smaller streets, tons of shops and stores, good restaurants are plentiful, and the buildings are all well maintained and charming. 20-30 min walk to just about everything you’d want to do in Madrid.

Hotel location is very good, very close to Madrid's fashion shopping avenue serrano, service is OK, breakfast type is not much, if you want to try the Spanish breakfast can go out of the store, it is not recommended to book the hotel's breakfast. Overall, it seems to be very good. This time, the photo provided by Ctrip does not match the room. The hotel's room classification is very clear and can be seen on the hotel's own website, but Ctrip's technical department generally refers to the room type photos. The deluxe room is obviously irresponsible. In response to customer service, their reply was that the technical department did not make a mistake. Can only suggest that Ctrip can not visit the hotel in person before sending a room picture, please carefully browse the hotel's website, the picture of the room is carefully classified to be responsible for the performance of the consumer... I have lived this place before. The hotel, knowing the room type, made such a comment. I hope you can see this comment. The hotel is very good, but Ctrip's service is a bit disappointing...

The location is very good, just by the subway, there is a shopping mall El Corte Inglés next to it, there are Loewe and Tous at 100m, but there are not many things, and there are &otherstories and Serrano Street about 600m away. You can also walk all the way to Puerta del Sol for about 30 minutes. The service attitude is very good. Arrived at 11 o'clock in the morning, the younger brother checked the availability and checked in directly.
