Shogetsu Grand Hotel

9.5/10

It's quite serendipitous, really. I first heard about Jozankei from a tip from DeepSeek, which mentioned it's a hot spring destination popular with locals in Hokkaido, offering traditional 'one-night, two-meal' (dinner and breakfast) packages. That instantly piqued my interest! I immediately started researching hotels and was captivated by 'Shogetsu.' Don't judge me, I'm one of those people who'll book a hotel just because I like the name! I barely read the description before booking. (Later, I looked up other reviews and realized this place is quite a hidden gem! No wonder there wasn't a single other Chinese guest during my stay.) And it certainly didn't disappoint! From the room to the meals, everything exuded a traditional Japanese charm. The river-view room offered a beauty that exceeded all my expectations! The nearby Jozankei Shrine also felt like a secluded, independent sanctuary. Its red exterior looked especially striking against the backdrop of heavy snow. I tossed a coin into the offering box and rang the bell – it felt like a scene right out of Cardcaptor Sakura, didn't it? My mind was filled with Tomoyo and Sakura; it was truly magical! On the way back to the hotel, I visited the Jozankei Souvenir Shop and even found a kappa keychain, which is said to guard the area! Such a meaningful souvenir! P.S.: I highly recommend emailing the hotel in advance to book the shuttle bus to and from Sapporo – it's incredibly convenient!

The room was large and clean, and the hot spring facilities were excellent with a huge space. Dinner offered a wide variety of dishes, including unlimited domestic Japanese wagyu beef grilled fresh on the spot. For the same amount of steak, I would pay 10,000 yen for just 6 small pieces at Hokkai-En Yakiniku in Niseko town. The pizzas were also made to order. They even poured champagne from a brand new bottle into clean glasses for us. And the price was very reasonable; I even wondered if there was a mistake in the bill, haha! 😄

We’ve stayed here for 7 nights. Which was a bit longer stay for Sapporo. However as the weather was so bad with heavy snow, so we did enjoy our stays in hotel during the snowy weather. The breakfast is so great and we expect it every morning, as it includes a variety of foods so you always can find something to enjoy. All staffs are very friendly and welcoming, especially two male & senior chefs at ramen and omelette. We also bought spa in our room rate, so every night we did enjoy a pleasant spa( though it’s not hot spring). In front of hotel, there is a small mall - BIVI , which with some good restaurants ,nice cafe (Gentle Bagel) and coop. Even at the heavy snowing days, you have no worries to spend time in. B1 with very practical laundry service , costs are fairly . If you have budget, you can choose only room (without breakfast and spa) plans, which is with very CP, strongly recommended.

The room facing Nakajima Park would be incredibly cozy and relaxing, especially if the weather is good or it's snowing. It's about a six to seven-minute walk from the subway station, and exit 3 has an elevator. You can tell the room's decor is a bit dated, but it's very clean and has a luggage rack. The lounge on the first floor overlooks a garden. Overall, it's a great choice for a relaxing getaway.

I was very nervous when I made the reservation. I looked for reviews on several platforms for the hotel, but there were almost no reviews on the entire web. However, I didn't want to go to those large hotels that receive tour groups, so I decided to give it a try. The hotel is a very, very local hot spring hotel. There is a man and a woman who are both older cleaning the hotel. There is also a front desk and restaurant manager. There are 10 rooms in the whole hotel, and 4 people serve. Except for the restaurant, all other areas are self-service. The hotel is very secluded and close to the river. The nearest bus stop to the hotel is Jozankei Bridge, about 500 meters away on foot. The rooms are clean, tidy and comfortable, but the facilities are a little old. There is an air outlet above the bed with a large air volume, and there is no place to close it. The hot spring is small and exquisite, and the men's and women's baths will be switched, so that you can experience the hot springs on both sides on the day of check-in and the next day. The biggest feature of the hotel is the food. Just look at the pictures. It is a leisure hotel that is very worth experiencing and staying in again.

I felt like I was staying in a Ghibli movie! The room was huge, with an open design and distinct Japanese charm. The private onsen was incredibly relaxing, and the large window allowed me to watch TV while soaking. On the first floor, there were unlimited snacks, drinks, and alcoholic beverages – you could easily spend the whole day just drinking! Breakfast was also delivered to the room, offering great privacy. Perfect for a relaxing, chill-out stay. Just a heads-up: when booking through Ctrip, there was no mention of needing to reserve dinner in advance. As a result, we only had the option of a kaiseki meal on the day, which was pretty mediocre and not worth the price (aside from the à la carte seafood from the tank).

The hotel is nearly an hour away from Sapporo by bus. I booked it because I saw that there was a pick-up service. Who knew that the phone call on the day said that there was no pick-up service. I looked at the Ctrip page again and needed to click in to see it. I needed to communicate with the merchant. I was careless. The hotel reception seemed to be from northern China, so there was no communication barrier throughout the whole process. The room is a full Japanese style room, you can brush your teeth, wash your face and go to the toilet in the room. The bathing and hot spring bathing are downstairs and end at 11 o'clock. Because of the bus, the time is quite tight. We left early in the morning because of the long distance. Overall, the experience is pretty good

Comfortable stay with good facilities (better if you have a car) Overall, we had a pleasant stay. The facilities were good and the place was comfortable. We especially enjoyed the onsen, which was very relaxing after a long day. One thing to note is the location 🙂it is not very convenient without a car, so I would recommend driving. If you have a car, then everything is fine and easy to get around. Service was decent overall, and everything went quite smoothly. There is still some room for improvement, but it was a good experience and worth the price. Would consider staying again.

The location is very good and convenient for traveling. It is very convenient to walk to the subway station in two steps. It is only three stops away from Li Xiaolu Commercial Street. It is great. The environment is also good and the facilities are complete. I am very satisfied!

There is a convenience store downstairs, the location is quite close to the station, it is quite convenient, it is an apartment type, the things are also rich, fill in the form in advance and receive the password, you will see the password box hanging at the door after you arrive at the room on the same day, enter the password and open it. You will get the key, which is a very special and convenient way. The disadvantage is that the air conditioner can't sleep in the room, but it can't be too hot.
