Akayu Onsen Gotenmori

As you would expect from an inn that originated as a bathhouse that was used by the great feudal lord Uesugi family for generations, the large stone baths for both men and women (which are changed in the morning and evening) are wonderful, and there are a total of 11 baths (including saunas). The spring water is a highly acidic sulfurous water, but the smell is not too strong. It was snowing this time, so we were able to enjoy the open-air bath with a view of the snow. The food was Japanese, mainly Yamagata beef, and for breakfast we had grilled fish, and the local potato soup was delicious and plentiful. There is also a reference room for the Uesugi family, and a service where you can freely use helmets, battle coats, swords, and spears for photos to take selfies. There was no problem with the hospitality. This time we stayed in the largest of the two rooms, which was spacious enough for four adults, and we were happy to see that it was equipped with a free full-body massage machine.

Stayed one night as a family of five. I was interested in this inn, which was a villa of Uesugi with a history of 380 years, and I was finally able to stay this time. It is undeniable that the building is old because it has been repeatedly expanded and rebuilt, and the building is old (or rather, the good thing about this inn). Overall hospitality is very nice. I dare to interweave Yamagata dialect and serve customers with a good feeling. Service is fine, including the waitstaff for dinner. The room....After all, the old feeling appears on the entire surface. There is a feeling of cleanliness, but there is a unique smell and a feeling of house dust, and everyone is sneezing and running nose. My eldest son is atopic and crumbles in the middle of the night. Other than this point, it's very good. There are plenty of things you can try, such as exhibitions of armor, exploration of the hills behind, screenings of old tales, ramune service, and wine tasting. By all means, please check in early and enjoy various things. The kids were delighted too. The best thing about this inn is the hot springs. The washing place is also very beautiful, there is a very large rock bath, and the spring quality is very good (it is a sulfur spring, but it is weakly alkaline). The hot springs have their own characteristics, so I definitely recommend it. The stance of trying to entertain guests with a very unique inn is evident throughout. Everything was fine except for the old room.
