The room itself was large, comfortable and clean, although a little tired and in need of some redecoration. The bathroom initially looked off-putting, with some flaking paint, an older style of shower curtain rather than screen, however the shower itself proved to be excellent. Fiddly to get to temperature, but plenty of consistent water pressure.
The biggest problem with the hotel is the lack of the advertised restaurant. When checking in, we asked if we needed to book for the restaurant that evening, only to be told that the restaurant was closed, in a dismissive tone indicating that we should obviously have known that - despite the fact that their own web site and ******* both list the restaurant as one of the hotel facilities and even then checking in sheet I'd just signed had the restaurant opening hours. When I queried further, we were treated to the member of staff's personal, political views on the government, the pandemic and along the way told that the restaurant had been closed since the start of the first Covid lockdown. Not what I'd expect as a response in any sense.
I have to say all other staff we encountered during our stay were polite, helpful and professional, but this first individual was none of these.
