Best Hotels in Plessur District, Switzerland

Stayed here for one night in between trips on the Bernina Express and the Glacier Express. Whilst surrounded by spectacular mountains, the hotel is situated in a soulless commercial area about 2 minutes west of central Chur by train. There is half hourly train service to / from the centre of Chur (which I found similarly lacking in charm). Finding the entrance to the hotel on arrival at Chur West was not that easy, and improved signage from the station would be helpful for first time visitors. If you are travelling with luggage expect a fair walk uphill and some steps along the way. The adjacent shopping centre looked functional enough albeit that, like 99% of businesses in Switzerland, it was closed on our arrival early on a Saturday evening and all day on the Sunday. The hotel itself occupies the first 9 floors of a tower block which I think may have had residential properties or offices above it. The small lobby area was pleasant enough and our check in was smooth, courteous and polite. The room itself was clean and simply furnished, and it offered a fridge, a coffee maker, plenty of power sockets and a decent shower. Breakfast offered a good variety of items but sometimes in modest quantities, probably reflecting the fact that we seemed to be the only guests dining there on the Sunday morning. Some items were sadly of poor quality (the croissants had a dreadfully fatty taste rather than a buttery flavour) and some were poorly prepared (fleshy, fatty bacon is most undesirable). Whilst it was included in our room rate, the walk in cost of breakfast seemed eye-wateringly high given the shortcomings we experienced. Overall, as I’m unlikely to return to Chur I’d be unlikely to stay here again. If I knew anyone visiting the city I’d be unlikely however to recommend the hotel based on my experience which was nothing more than average.

IBIS CHUR HOTEL, KANTON GRAUBUNDEN, SWITZERLAND Ibis Chur Hotel is a convenient medium range accommodation with Parking in Chur IBIS CHUR HOTEL is a 3-star hotel in Chur (Switzerland, Kanton Graubünden) and is convenient as it is situated not far from Chur Train Station (to catch the famous Bernina Express or Glacier Express) with easy transport (Bus Nr.1) , a Migros on next door building with eating possibilities, as well as a McDonald on the same pyramidal building The room was clean, the service of the personnel good enough, the price for Swiss standards at a medium range, the Car Parking very convenient and easy to reach. Ibis Chur Hotel is a good solution for short stays, especially if you have a car and planning to take the Unesco World Heritage trains to Zermatt (Matterhorn) or Tirano.

This is the most expensive hotel on my trip to Switzerland. The breakfast is excellent and the location is near the train station. I ate a few chocolates at the front desk. Recommended, just a little more affordable

As a transit point in and out of the mountains, this hotel in Chur is very suitable. The staff is enthusiastic, the service is professional, the sanitary condition of the hotel is very good, and the rooms are big enough. If it is a temporary one-night stay before going to the mountains, it is very suitable. The hardware conditions are average, but since it is a transit hotel, the requirements are not so high. As the first ancient city in Switzerland, Chur still has a special charm. It is good to spend half a day strolling around. In addition, the canton of Graubingen, where Chur is located, is highly recommended. So far, not many Chinese tourists go to skiing in winter and hiking in summer. There are Bernina Express and Glacier Express to sit, and you can also go to the origin of the Rhine to see the canyon and hike. Zurich is also convenient in the past.

Hotel was located farther from the train station than i expected, and was on a seemingly quiet street. wasn't quite the case as a regular stream of loud people walking and chattering late into the night could be heard in the room. very hot season so windows had to be kept wide open as sweating inside. There was one instance of ringing of bells for like 15 min non-stop on a Sun night, not sure why. Fortunately not repeated while there, the hourly ones were short. Has to be said this was the best price I could find within the vicinity, room and toilet facilities were basic but decent. Be warned though, other than shops in the train station, absolutely nothing was open on Sunday including restaurants. Not an exciting town to see either. Bring instant noodles if you must stay.....

The hotel was well located and our room was well appointed and reasonably spacious. The staff were excellent with a particular mention for the reception staff who were very helpful. Our disappointment was the room location. The corridor to our room was used as a storage area for chairs and on occasions catering and cleaning equipment. However the main problem was noise. The room above appeared to be used as a communal area and whilst the noise wasn’t excessive it did last on occasions until midnight and started again at 5 am. The footsteps etc. were generally not loud enough to wake you in a deep sleep but annoying enough to stop you going back to sleep once awake. If we do stay again would definitely be choosy about the room offered.

An old hotel in the quaint area of Chur. The reception is very small when checking in. The room was quite a good size fairly basic. The bed was two twins pushed together. It was comfortable and the bedding clean and warm. There was reasonable storage. Tv had English channels but the signal was poor. Free wifi. The plug sockets were difficult to access as they were under the bedside tables near the floor. There was a dressing table but no mirror for make up or hair etc. The bathroom was very dated but although the shower was old it was very hot. The breakfast was very basic. The restaurant served good evening meals with large portions . I do think there should be nonslip mats in the bath

LOCATION: Zunfthaus zur Rebleuten is conveniently located at Pfisterplatz 1, most places of interest are within easy walking distance. Chur Station is about 600m away and can be reached on foot in under 10 minutes. If arriving on public transport, go down Bahnhofstrasse after you exit from station, continue onto Grabenstrasse followed by Nicolaigasse till you reach Kornplatz, turn in at Herrengasse and you will find Zunfthaus zur Rebleuten facing the Pfister fountain. This route goes along the periphery of Old Town pedestrian zone, thus avoiding the hassle of dragging unwieldy suitcases over cobblestoned streets as you’d be on level ground or pavement for most of the way. OVERVIEW: The historic building was originally a guildhall dating back to 1464, it has since been refurbished and converted into a small independent inn. This quaint property is steeped in history and full of quirks: the sloping floors, crooked walls, slanting ceilings and exposed wooden beams all add to its authenticity and charm! ROOM: Each of the 13 rooms has its own unique layout and décor – not all have ensuite facilities so be sure to check the room description when booking online. Classic Twin Room was clean and simply furnished with twin beds; pair of bedside tables & reading lamps; wall-mounted TV over a small desk with lamp & chair; wardrobe; and full-length mirror on wall. Tower Fan came in handy during the summer heatwave. BATHROOM: Retro ‘70s style but clean and adequate in size. Furnished with the usual mirror over wash basin, shower stall and toilet. Faint odour in bathroom at times but not pervasive nor unbearable – perhaps some issues with drainage or plumbing? Shower Stall might be a tight fit for guests of larger build but such compact size is quite normal by Swiss standards, especially in older buildings. There was good water pressure and plentiful hot water. Clean bath linen, toilet rolls, box of tissues and basic toiletries e.g. liquid soap provided. F&B: Breakfast Service is 7:30-10:30 and served in Zunftsaal, a traditional dining room with terrace on the 1st floor. Buffet breakfast comprises small selection of breads with jams & butter, cereals and fruits. Assorted cheeses and cold cuts are available on request. Eggs are prepared à la minute according to your preference. Beverage choices include orange juice, milk, tea & coffee. Situated next to the Reception is Zunftstube, a member of the Swiss Gilde of Established Restaurants. Guests can enjoy innovative cuisine made with fresh produce as well as excellent service & ambiance here. Closed on Tuesdays and only Dinner Service for Wed~Sat. The most detestable of experiences. We had made a reservation, arrived on time so as not to offend the Swiss host, and it was certainly because we were not locals that the first waiter who received us after letting us wait a few long minutes vaguely tried to find our name on the reservation list. He then gave up after we had found our name and told us that the chef would come and set us up. The chef, after a little wink to his waiter, ignored us, preferring to serve a few tables, then desserts and cappuccinos here and there. I should point out that we were a family with our 6 and 8 year old children. Finally, the ”chef” came to us and explained that unfortunately our table was no longer available. Yes, of course within 15 minutes there would certainly be room. Wink to the waiter again. So we decided to leave. This was too much, and we had the pleasure of witnessing the general hilarity as we passed the restaurant windows again, all the waiters and cooks laughing out loud. What a pleasure to have been the laughing stock of their evening...
