Grand Hostel LDK Osaka Shinsekai

The absolute best place I've ever stayed at in Osaka! The common area here is amazing—it feels just like relaxing in a nice café. The sleeping area is beautiful and very clean. Best of all, there are shower rooms on every floor. As for the location, it goes without saying how fantastic it is—it's super close to the train station, and right across the street, you'll find MEGA Don Quijote and Shinsekai. If I ever get the chance to visit Osaka again, this will definitely be the one and only choice in my heart!

I really liked the ventilation in the capsule. It was cold in the hallway where the capsules are at night because the air conditioning was on. There were no odors, so the capsule itself felt fresh too. I'm not sure how the ventilation is set up, but I was pleased with it. The common area on, I think, the 10th floor was usually empty, so I could sit and eat alone, which I also liked. After this, I stayed at a couple more capsule hostels in Japan, and this one was the best in terms of the capsule design and living area. My only complaints were with the kitchen and cooking facilities. But for sleeping, it's an excellent option. The showers and toilets were great too.

The location is quiet and close to two train stations, making it convenient for getting around. The staff are very responsible and respond quickly, even late at night. When we had a problem with the water heater in the early morning, they sent someone to fix it the next morning. The staff member in charge even spoke Chinese, which was very thoughtful and dedicated. There's a small balcony, which is great for drying clothes. If you like trains, you can also watch them pass by at the nearby station from the balcony. Downsides: The location is a bit too secluded. In winter, it gets dark very early, and there are very few dim streetlights in the residential area. There are almost no pedestrians, so as a solo female traveler, I felt a bit scared and had to return to the guesthouse early. There are no restaurants downstairs; you have to walk to find them. The water heater was troublesome; it's a storage type, so you constantly have to check if the water level is low and manually boil water, otherwise, you won't have hot water for a shower (I discovered this when the temperature was around 1-2 degrees Celsius, but once the temperature rose, the water heater didn't take as long to heat up).

This was not my first hostel experience, and I have to say, I was a bit disappointed. Let’s start with the positive aspects first: The location was absolutely perfect — I don’t think you could find a better place to stay in Namba. Everything was close by, and getting around was very easy. Also, the staff were extremely, extremely friendly, and we received fresh towels every day, which I really appreciated. Now, onto the things that bothered me: First, the cleanliness: It wasn’t really clean. In the showers, there was always a lot of hair and dirt in the gaps where you enter and exit, which was quite unpleasant. During my stay, someone vomited in the public sink area, and it was not cleaned up overnight — it was still there even at 10 a.m. the next morning. Because of that, the house smelled strongly of vomit for a while. That night, and in general, there was often an unpleasant smell in the kitchen area as well. Without wanting to discriminate, I noticed that many older people were staying at the hostel (since apparently there was no age restriction). Some of them would loudly clear their throats and spit phlegm into the sinks, even early in the morning, which was quite disturbing and unhygienic. Another issue was the temperature: The room was extremely hot at night, and since so many people were sleeping in one room, the air became very stuffy. Even inside your capsule, it was uncomfortably warm. One last point: On the day of arrival, the address on Trip.com was wrong, which made it very hard to find the hostel. It took me almost an hour and a half to find it, especially because it was very hidden with no clear signage outside. I really hope that in the future, there will also be an age limit for guests.

The single room is great, but you have to go to the first floor to shower. There's an elevator for convenience. They only provide towels once, unless you stay for more than three days, otherwise you'll have to buy more. The room has a fridge and a TV, and I absolutely loved that it has DMM TV. The mattress is a bit small, like a single bed, but it has a rail so you don't have to worry about falling off. I didn't see a water dispenser, so it seems you either have to boil your own drinking water or buy it outside. Also, the location is more of a local residential area, so if you're a woman traveling alone, be careful on the streets as there are quite a few drunk people around.

Capsule Inn Osaka (Male Only)

This hotel absolutely exceeded my expectations; it's almost on par with a five-star hotel. I've stayed in many capsule hotels, and this one is the best. The large public bath has everything you could possibly need, they even provide swim trunks! Razors, toothbrushes, hand towels, bath towels, pumice stones, exfoliating mitts, and multiple types of facial cleansers – they have it all. Can you believe there's even an open-air bath? They also offer massages, but those are extra. And seriously, they even have a blood pressure monitor! After showering, you can grab a drink and some noodles, which can be charged directly to your room. The luggage area has a huge packing table, with space underneath for oversized luggage (I didn't use it so I don't know if there's a charge). The lounge area has sofas for watching TV, and even a smoking section – it's incredibly convenient! Right outside the hotel is Umeda Higashidori Street, where bunny girls invite you to all-you-can-drink deals, and there are all sorts of food options around. The capsule itself is quite spacious, and the bedding is incredibly clean – I mean five-star hotel quality clean. I don't understand why the rating is low; for me, the only 'downside' is that there are too many amenities and services to explore before I had to check out. For a capsule hotel, the service is almost too much! One final friendly tip: you'll still need to buy your own toothpaste...

I stayed in a 4-person dorm and the room was very clean and tidy. Aside from the beds, there wasn't anything else. Each bed had a thick, full-length curtain, providing excellent blackout and privacy. The shared bathrooms and toilets were also very clean, and the facilities looked to be of high quality. There was 24-hour hot water and smart electronic toilets. Honestly, I couldn't find any other faults besides the soundproofing not being great. The breakfast tasted good; it included a bowl of cereal with yogurt, a fried egg, two slices of bread, ham, sausages, and salad – definitely enough to keep you energized. I ate every last bit of it daily! The staff were also very kind and friendly.

The location is perfect, just a couple of train stops from Dotonbori! I highly recommend trying the ramen shop right next to the hotel. The room was clean. It could get a little noisy at night, but it wasn’t too overwhelming. The shower room was clean, and all the basic amenities were provided. The only downside was that each floor had gender-specific restrooms. Unfortunately, I was assigned to a floor with only a men’s restroom, so I had to go to a different floor whenever I needed to use the bathroom. Overall, it was a great stay for the price.

The hostel is conveniently located near the metro station. The area outside is a bit like a bar street, but once you step into the hostel, it feels new, modern, clean, and comfortable. There are several common areas on the ground floor and upstairs, which are great for chatting, using your phone, or working. They also have a shared kitchen, washing machine, and dryer. The dorm room had a bit of a strange smell, but it felt clean. The beds were spacious enough for a comfortable sleep, and each bed had its own private locker.

I stayed at a hotel in Osaka and had a mixed experience. The staff were very nice, always polite and willing to assist, which made me feel welcome. The location was also convenient, with easy access to the main sights and transportation. However, the cleanliness of the hotel could have been better. Some areas did not feel as well maintained as they should, which was a little disappointing. The amenities were just average, functional but not impressive. Overall, the hotel was fine for a short stay, thanks to the friendly staff and good location, but it would benefit from improvements in cleanliness and facilities.
