"The room is relatively big for a Japan apartment, enough for 2 pax but gets a little squeezy for travellers with 2 luggage. The water temperature is a little frustrating though, as it gets hot and cold randomly and takes awhile for it to turn from cold to hot. The toilet is not to our liking, it’s yellowish in color and just doesn’t feel clean. Other than that, everything else is relatively ok."

"The room was great, and the area was really quiet. There's a convenience store right downstairs, which is super handy. I'd definitely want to stay here again if I get the chance. The amenities were comprehensive; I particularly appreciated having a microwave and a fridge. The water heater was a bit tricky to operate, though. A fantastic Japanese-style guesthouse. The neighborhood is very quiet, and it's less than a 10-minute walk from the subway station. The room was impeccably clean, and with only one unit per floor accessed directly by elevator, it offered excellent privacy. The facilities were well-equipped, making it a perfect spot to experience Japanese culture. The host was wonderfully warm and attentive, and all the visual and written instructions provided were incredibly comprehensive. Highly recommended!

The guesthouse's location is incredibly convenient. It's a 30-minute ride on the Nankai Airport Line to Tengachaya Station, followed by a straightforward 30-minute walk. Alternatively, the Yotsubashi Line's Hanazonocho Station is even closer, just under a 5-minute walk across the road and along Hanazonocho Hondori, offering direct access to Namba and Shinsaibashi. There's also Shin-Imamiya JR Station, which is a bit further, about 1.2 km or a 15-minute walk. Check-in was a breeze; upon arrival, you simply collect your keys from the mailbox in the room to the right of the main entrance. Daily trash disposal is easy – just take your rubbish downstairs to the large bin located to the left inside the gated area. The lobby provides handy supplies like trash bags, fresh towels, and toothbrushes. Room amenities are excellent and the space is ample, which is a big advantage of guesthouses over hotels. There's a microwave, pots, pans, and dishes, so you can buy groceries and prepare simple meals. A washing machine with detergent and a drying rack on the balcony are also provided. Before booking, I was quite concerned about the noise issues mentioned in other reviews, and I was a bit apprehensive before my trip. I was assigned a third-floor room not facing the train line, and while it was a lower floor, I had read reviews saying rooms on the opposite side were also noisy. However, my personal experience was that there was no sound at all. Even when trains passed, the noise wasn't significant, unless you're an extremely light sleeper who needs absolute quiet. Personally, I don't see it as an issue. For those like us, staying in a room on the opposite side, we didn't hear any track noise at all. Plus, the hotel offers direct views of Abeno Harukas and Tsutenkaku, both about a 30-minute walk away. I even went up to the 9th floor to catch the sunset. Overall, this guesthouse offers great value for money. While it's true there are some homeless people in the area to the right, it still feels very safe and doesn't affect your travel plans. I would definitely choose to stay here again on my next trip to Osaka.

I had a wonderful stay at Hotel Monterey Le Frere Osaka. The location was excellent, within walking distance of Osaka Station, restaurants, convenience stores, and shopping areas, making it very convenient for sightseeing and transportation. The room was clean, modern, and well-maintained. Although the room size was compact, which is common in Japan, it was thoughtfully designed and had everything needed for a comfortable stay. The bed was comfortable, and the room was quiet, allowing for a good night’s sleep. One of the highlights was the public bath facility, which was clean and relaxing after a long day of exploring the city. The staff were friendly, professional, and efficient during both check-in and check-out. The breakfast offered a good selection of Japanese and Western dishes, and the quality was excellent. Overall, I highly recommend this hotel for travelers looking for a clean, comfortable, and conveniently located place to stay in Osaka. I would definitely stay here again on my next visit.

The location is quiet and close to two train stations, making it convenient for getting around. The staff are very responsible and respond quickly, even late at night. When we had a problem with the water heater in the early morning, they sent someone to fix it the next morning. The staff member in charge even spoke Chinese, which was very thoughtful and dedicated. There's a small balcony, which is great for drying clothes. If you like trains, you can also watch them pass by at the nearby station from the balcony. Downsides: The location is a bit too secluded. In winter, it gets dark very early, and there are very few dim streetlights in the residential area. There are almost no pedestrians, so as a solo female traveler, I felt a bit scared and had to return to the guesthouse early. There are no restaurants downstairs; you have to walk to find them. The water heater was troublesome; it's a storage type, so you constantly have to check if the water level is low and manually boil water, otherwise, you won't have hot water for a shower (I discovered this when the temperature was around 1-2 degrees Celsius, but once the temperature rose, the water heater didn't take as long to heat up).

Hotel were offering late checkouts to guests who left 5* reviews, so I feel that the reviews have been artificially inflated by people rating 5* so that they can get late checkout. Location was quite far from the JR Namba station and even further from the metro Namba station. The bed was really hard and uncomfortable. Bathroom was tiny, kitchenette had a raised lip which was easy to trip over or stub your toes on. However, the size of the room was good, there was a good amount of space. It would be ok to spend a night or two here but I think we were there 5 nights which wasn’t great with the uncomfortable bed. When we checked in we were told a room number of an uncleaned room and had to ring out of hours to swap rooms, but that was all resolved quickly by the hotel. Also to note, the keyboxes didn’t feel very safe/ secure because the codes followed a pattern (so if you knew one you’d know the other rooms), but we didn’t use the lockbox except for when we checked in so it didn’t affect us, but just something to consider. Overall it was ok for a budget hotel but I think the reviews make it seem too good to be true!

I really agonized over where to stay, but I'm so glad I chose this place. We're a family of five, and since the beds were double and single, we booked two rooms so we could all sleep comfortably. Each room felt like a studio apartment in Korea, probably about 15 pyeong (around 500 sq ft). The price for two rooms was also less than half of what a five-person accommodation would typically cost. It's about a 15-minute walk to Dotonbori and only 5 minutes from Namba Station, making it easy to find after getting off the subway. My main concern when looking for a place was cleanliness and spaciousness, and the rooms were truly spotless with modern facilities. There's a Lawson convenience store just 3 minutes away. The bathroom was incredibly clean, the water pressure was excellent 👍, and the blankets were so fluffy and cozy, making for a really comfortable night's sleep ❤️. For breakfast, we were given sandwiches and egg tarts at the cafe on the first floor, with a choice of drinks. They even gave us coffee coupons for the cafe. Since we only stayed one night, we ended up with two coffee/drink coupons for the morning. I recommend using them right when you arrive! The egg tarts and coffee were delicious too. It's fantastic value for money, the facilities are clean, and the location is great, which is probably why so many Koreans stay here. There's also a quiet, traditional Japanese izakaya nearby where I enjoyed a draft beer at night, soaking in the local atmosphere. I'll be posting a more detailed review on my travel blog, 'Traveling Mrs. Park'. This is a 10-star, highly recommended, super cost-effective accommodation, paid for with my own money, by Traveling Mrs. Park.

Fourth time staying here, and this time I came during cherry blossom season. The price was great, and the hospitality was as warm as ever. I pretty much stay here every time I'm in Osaka. The only thing is there aren't many single rooms available, but the soundproofing is decent.
