Ai Due Fanali

Venice|0.05km from Al Veliero
We stayed at Hotel Ai Due Fanali at the beginning of September. I’m just going to give a summary of our stay Pros: - Great Location, looking out to a courtyard on the grand canal - Close to the train station, 5 minute walk - Reception was friendly, allowed us to leave our bags for a bit after check out as well - AC in the room was incredible. It was always a cold 19 degrees, great after walking around Venice all day**** Cons: - Rooms are smaller than they appear, this was fine for us as we were only there to sleep and shower - Walls were thin… I could hear our neighbour, who should probably see a medical professional about potential sleep apnea, clear as day during the night. - Doors used physical keys, which also required you to use to lock from the inside - Whoever cleaned our room, failed to lock the door when they were done, leaving our luggage ripe for the taking should anyone have even attempted to open the door - AC constantly turns on and off. Once the room hits the set temperature, the AC will turn on and off every 10-20 sec and repeat constantly until you manually shut it off - Last but not least, and this is a big one, possible BED BUGS. We didn’t notice this until the day we were leaving, but both myself and my partner had red spots on our bodies that were itchy. We didn’t see any bed bugs, but we are both fairly certain they are there. This is particularly troublesome as we still have a few more destinations to go and these critters like to travel on clothes. Overall, the stay was alright at best, I personally would not recommend this hotel, but the prices for the location are very reasonable

Canal Grande

Venice|0.09km from Al Veliero
We arrived via Water taxi directly from the airport to the Canel Grande's private jetty and drinks balcony. If you can afford the €130 25 minutes journey, and are new to the city like us, it's amazing introduction. We felt quite the film stars! Our welcome was incredible. We got to the hotel very early - 9ish and our room wasn't ready, only to be expected. So we dropped our bags off and headed off to explore and get lost in Venice for the first and not the last time over the next 4 days we were there. Thank heavens for Google maps! Coming back around midday our room was still not ready, which gave us the opportunity to drink Aperol Spritz - the drink of Venice on the Hotels balcony while watching the water traffic on the Grand Canal by. Mesmerising... When our room was ready our baggage already there, along with a bottle of prosecco on ice, and hand written note wishing us a happy 35th wedding anniversary. We chose a room without a view which not only saved money, but made us go out and enjoy the city. The hotel has plenty of seating outside and in to enjoy the view anyway. It's is in a cul-de-sac, that makes it feel very private, as few people go down it. The room are in the Italianate Baroque style. Very clean and comfortable. The staff are impeccable, friendly, informed and helpful. It felt like a happy place to work. Note: Due to the small seating area inside, the excellent breakfast needs to be booked. The number 1 canal bus, a 3 minute walk from the hotel that takes you directly to San Marco Square. We only once asked for restaurant recommendation (La Patatina). This was the best of the best of meals we had in Venice. But at wine starting at €32 a bottle, expect a bill of around €110 for 2. From The Hotel is a marvel, we loved every moment were there. Over 3 days we walked over 25 miles, of this grand and historic city, saw great works of art in several museums and churches but missed much more. So, will we go back? Definitely. And Canal Hotel is where we will stay!

Santa Croce Boutique Hotel

The Santa Croce Boutique Hotel was a great find for my husband and I. First, it was in a quiet neighborhood where locals live, with cafes, grocery stores, shops, town squares and side canals. The train station and Piaza Roma are just a few blocks away where you can easily catch the water taxis, gondolas, etc. We loved returning to the hotel after a busy day being tourists and enjoying a cocktail in the beautiful courtyard and then meandering around to a local cafe for dinner. Secondly, it is a beautiful hotel with comfortable and beautiful rooms. The decor added to our feeling of being in a special city such as Venice. Every single staff person was kind, polite, friendly and knowledgeable. Everyone! The breakfast buffet was extensive with eggs cooked to order, lots of fresh fruits, breads, etc. And the coffee was near perfect! Venice is a busy city filled with tourists, so staying away from all the hustle and bustle is a good idea! Just hop on the #1 water taxi and enjoy the ride to,wherever you may need to go.

Location is on,y a short walk from the station It is located on the main tourist street so is ideally located to drop bags and go Reception staff are welcoming There is a lift Rooms are small but very adequate for a short stay You come to Venice to see the sights, not stay in your room Bed was good Bathroom again was small but also very adequate with good hot water Considering that as a tourist you are in the room for about 10 hours of which 7-8. of those you are asleep, the room is more than adequate Breakfast is a served continental style, with good coffee, it is more than adequate Check out is 11am On departure bags can be left at reception for later pick up rather that paying t9 stow them near the station For a short stay in Venice this property is more than adequate
Hotel Nazionale

We have stayed in this hotel and we were very good, two steps from the big channel to 20 minutes walk from Piazza San Marco . Very close to the station and the starting point of the buses to the airport, the very clean rooms, careful and friendly staff, abundant and varied breakfast.
Ca' Nigra Lagoon Resort

Nice and quite place located at the Canale Grande with good access by foot and Vaporetti to all the islands and the old city. Smaller hotel with not much more than 20 rooms and a very nice terrace and garden towards the Canale Grande. Rooms were fully equipped and nicely furnished. Service and reception were very friendly and supportive. In total, a very nice stay and recommendable place to go.
