I recently stayed at a hotel in Penang for three nights and had a pleasant experience. The hotel was in a convenient location, close to Penang Hill and many local food stalls. My room was clean, spacious, and comfortable, with a nice view of the city. Overall, I enjoyed my stay and would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Penang for a relaxing and comfortable trip.

This was the most satisfying hotel of our trip, costing just under 600 without breakfast. We arrived around 10 PM and there was a singer in the lobby, which created a really nice atmosphere. The beds were high and the hotel service was excellent. It was easy to catch a taxi downstairs, and there's a bus stop nearby. Across the street is the Wenbao Li Hotel, which is a bit cheaper. There's also a mall next door, which was very convenient.

I had a wonderful stay. The room was clean, comfortable, and well maintained. The staff were friendly, welcoming, and always ready to help. The location was convenient, with easy access to nearby attractions and restaurants. The breakfast offered a good variety and tasted great. Overall, I highly recommend this hotel and would happily stay here again.

Sunway Hotel, recommended by Doubao, truly exceeded my expectations. First and foremost, the service was outstanding. Upon check-in, we were given warm cookies, which immediately won over our travel-weary and hungry hearts. Our luggage was not only brought to our room but also placed exactly where we wanted it, which was incredibly thoughtful. The bottled water provided was in beautiful glass bottles, making the water taste even better. The mini-fridge was stocked with complimentary drinks, replenished daily. The hotel has been renovated; while the bath towels were a bit old, they were very well-maintained. The bed and bedding were incredibly comfortable, and the room was quiet, ensuring we had two very restful nights. Although the pool was small, it was clean. For this price, with such service and a pool, it truly offers excellent value for money. Plus, right downstairs is a local night market – not a touristy one – where you can find authentic char kway teow, longan ice, and fried vermicelli from Wu Zhou Tea Room, all highly recommended!

Lovely clean room with air conditioning and proper shower. They also provide you with some bottled water and there was a fridge which is very handy for keeping your drinks cold. In the bathroom, Hand gel, shower gel and shampoo all provided as well. The hotel is very well situated in Georgetown and you can easily walk to all of the key attractions - such as the Clan Jetties and some of the famous mansions here, as well as going around and seeing the street art. There’s also a lot of cafes and restaurants nearby which are nice - and the art shop and cafe Journal is just down the street, which is a great place to pop into while exploring the town. I had the breakfast while staying here and it was very nice - each day they have a rice and noodle dish and you can ask for eggs or an omelette. There was also salad and fruit plus steamed buns and corn pudding - so lots of variety. One issue to note was noise - the rooms are not the most sound proof, so I could occasionally hear people in the corridor or even one person snoring during the nighttime, which did make sleeping a bit harder.

The hotel's facilities are exceptional. On a clear day, the sea view is absolutely stunning, with a vast ocean panorama right outside the room window. If the weather is good, you can even catch the sunset. I gave the facilities five stars because there are two swimming pools: one children's pool with a small slide, and a sky pool more suitable for adults. You can order food by the sky pool, and it's quite good. Additionally, for families with children, there's a kids' playground with various activities. Children aged five and above can be looked after, allowing adults to go to the gym or do other things, which is a very thoughtful service. I only gave the hotel's location and cleanliness three stars. The location is quiet but there's nothing else nearby. Typically, beachfront hotels are closer to night markets, especially this one which is quite secluded. The hotel does offer a shuttle service, but when I enquired, they didn't mention the need for a reservation, and there was only one scheduled trip. I arrived 15 minutes early only to be told I needed a reservation, and by then, it was full. Luckily, a 10-minute taxi ride still works. Regarding cleanliness, the room attendant didn't clean properly. Leftover takeout food was still in the room, which was quite disappointing.

We stayed two nights at Summer Tree Hotel Penang during our trip to Penang. One of the main reasons I chose this hotel was its location — right in the heart of Georgetown near Komtar, which makes it very convenient for getting around. It also offers parking, which is a big plus in this area. Another reason was the late check-in option, as I was having dinner with a friend in Nibong Tebal, which is quite a distance away. The pricing was also reasonable, making it an attractive choice overall. Upon arrival, however, parking was already full. I had to park at a space right in front of the hotel where delivery trucks usually arrive in the morning. This made me slightly anxious, as I was worried I might be asked to move my car early the next day. The lobby is simple but modern, with a creative, slightly hipster and artistic vibe — almost like a small modern art space. There are vending machines offering snacks, drinks, and essentials for travelers. At the back, there are toilets and also a laundry area with washing machines. A small coffee corner and even an old-school arcade game machine add a nice nostalgic touch, which was a pleasant surprise. However, the room itself was quite disappointing. While the room is basic and small — which I don’t mind — the flooring under the carpet felt severely damaged. Walking on it felt uneven and almost “soft,” as if the ground beneath had deteriorated. It gave a very uncomfortable and unsettling feeling, possibly due to moisture or termite damage underneath. Another concern was the bathroom design. There is an elevated step at the entrance, which becomes a clear trip hazard. I actually tripped once when entering. Even after that, I had to be very cautious because the floor just outside the bathroom is extremely slippery. Every entry and exit required full attention. There is also no proper shelf or platform inside the shower area to place shampoo or shower gel. We had to repeatedly open and close the glass door just to access toiletries during showering, which was inconvenient. Only basic amenities like shower gel and liquid hand soap were provided. The room was also advertised with a decent view, but the window was covered with a mesh, and since we were on the first floor, there was very little to see. On the positive side, the water dispenser outside the room was very convenient. The next day, parking was still full, so we had to park at a private area nearby. Since it was raining, the walk back to the hotel was quite inconvenient as well. Overall, while the location and concept of the hotel are strong, the room condition and safety design issues need serious attention. I would strongly recommend replacing the carpet flooring with vinyl wood flooring for durability and hygiene. As for the bathroom layout, improvements may be limited due to structure, but safety enhancements like anti-slip flooring would make a big difference.

The hotel is located right by the sea with direct access to the beach, offering a fantastic environment. It's very clean, and the rooms are comfortable. The king-size bed is huge, probably over 2 meters, easily accommodating our family of three without feeling cramped. Breakfast gets extremely busy, especially during peak times, and you might have to queue. However, the selection is extensive. The hotel also offers a buffet dinner for 198 MYR per person, with two adults getting one child free, available on Friday and Saturday evenings. While the variety isn't huge, all the essentials are there. There are restaurants on both sides of the hotel beach, all featuring fire shows. It's lively outside the hotel, but the rooms themselves are very quiet. The large balcony is lovely, perfect for enjoying a cup of tea. The hotel is quite far from both the airport and the town center, about an hour to the airport and 50 minutes to town. Taxis are readily available though.

The entire guesthouse was spotlessly clean, and the decor was warm and stylish. The host was very friendly and patiently answered all our questions about local attractions and how to get around. The location is excellent, with food, drinks, and entertainment all within easy reach.
