Novotel Makkah Thakher City is really not recommended, seriously.
The bus stop for its shuttle is very far from the Haram; just walking from the Haram to the shuttle stop alone can take about 30 - 40 minutes.
The shuttle takes a long time to arrive at the hotel for pick up — once we waited 30 minutes, the shuttle isn’t always on standby. Once we wanted to go for Fajr prayer, we had to take a taxi because the shuttle didn’t come for a long time.
This is from a real experience staying here for 2 nights. Because the Middle East current war, we got a flight reroute that depart 2 days earlier, so we had to add 2 nights at a nearby hotel, but the prices of the hotel close to Haram were already very expensive. We thought this Novotel’s shuttle would be like the one at Le Méridien Tower (shuttle bus stop close to haram - we stayed the on our previous trip), but this Novotel shuttle bus stop turned out to be too far, especially when we travel will elderly
On the second day, we only went to the mosque to complete our umrah — we couldn’t handle going back and forth between the hotel and the mosque multiple times.
*************, on the third day (2 days ago, when this comment was written), we moved to a nearby hotel that we had already booked long before.”
Yes, nusuk approval was fast with this hotel, but what’s the point of fast approval if you still have to wait for the shuttle for an hour close to prayer time and still miss the congregation?
Because of the long wait, we got stuck in traffic, and then walking from the bus to the mosque also took a very long time.
Hopefully this can be a consideration for those planning to book — don’t regret it like we did, since we didn’t have many options because we booked late 😆”
I had a wonderful stay at this hotel and would happily return. From the moment I arrived, the staff were welcoming, professional, and always ready to help with a smile. The room was spotless, well-designed, and very comfortable, with all the amenities I needed for a relaxing stay.
The location was excellent—convenient and easy to get around—while still being quiet and peaceful at night. I especially appreciated the attention to detail, from the quality of the bedding to the cleanliness of the common areas.
Overall, this hotel exceeded my expectations and offered great value for the price. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for comfort, excellent service, and a pleasant experience.
The location of the hotel is fabulous
There are three routes to the masjid ul haram. One is exiting the lobby and turning left, walking up marriott and then turning right (you will see the haram to see what I mean) - then walk down the slight hill. The second is exiting the lobby, and walking left across the street, straight through hilton convention. The third is exiting the lobby, turning left and walking up the stairs that are next to Makkah Gate sign. You then turn left and head to haram down the escalators that everyone posts about online!
It is hilly using route one or three, but not really an issue for walking or pram users.
This is aside from two other ways to reach the haram: the marriott shuttle bus which drops you near conrad, near the I love Makkah area. Or, the golf buggy which takes you the same route as Walking Route One I mentioned above. Id recommend getting the buggy as its less crowded. The golf buggy comes to the same drop off spot to take you back. Shuttles buggys are really constant and timely, jus wait around. The marriott is opposite the Address hotels back entrance.
There are wonderful coffee shops if you climb the stairs as mentioned in my Walking Route 3 I mentioned above. Great area to take children to play and run around.
The mosque is part of the haram so every room has a live speaker during prayer time with mic volume to adjust. You can joim salaah from your room or go to the prayer room on floor 3.
Reception gave us a cheaper breakfast or dinner price than online voucher places.
Breakfast is average but convenient.
There is a cafe on ground floor that serves nice hot or cold food anytime in the day. A baskin Robbins freezer is also there.
Hotel staff and reception are lovely!!!
We had a very nice experience at the hotel.
The shuttle service was also good.
The only issue was that they didn’t accommodate breakfast for all our guests .
The breakfast was also very good
Everything was fine, but there was a problem with canceling the reservation on the second day. There was no prior notice about stopping Umrah pilgrims and allowing Hajj pilgrims to enter. Please make a note of this again if this issue recurs. Thank you.
Great stay overall at Swissôtel Al Maqam. The location is excellent with very convenient access to Masjid al-Haram, making prayers easy at any time. The room was clean, comfortable, and the staff were professional and helpful throughout the stay.
Only a small concern: although my checkout was extended until 2 PM, my key card stopped working around 1 PM and needed reactivation. Aside from that minor issue, everything was smooth and enjoyable.
My stay was really great. The room was so clean. The bed was comfortable.
The hotel location is 14 min walk from alharam. The hotel is located in a busy street but the room was properly isolated and was quite inside.
The price was quite reasonable compared to nearby hotel.
I do recommend the hotel for short term stays and for Haram visiting and Omra.
I stayed here in 2019 and returned on December 4th, 2025.
From the reception to check-in, the service, and the room, everything was excellent. I loved the room with a view of the Haram and slept soundly without any noise disturbance. There's also a prayer room on the 3rd floor. The hotel has a wide variety of international buffet food, and the service is outstanding. Staff in every department are always quick and helpful. I liked and was most impressed with the Hilton Convention Jabal Omar.
Fantastic hotel. Extremely clean (and fragrant lobby). We had a twin deluxe room with Haram view; spacious, comfortable and plush. Breakfast was also solid with good hours (6:00 to 10:30). We checked out on a Friday and they allowed us to check out after Jummah salah.
The hotel is actually quite close to the Haram. From reviews online I was unsure, but in practice it's a few minutes walk to King Fahd Gate 79. For getting into the Haram I think it is quicker door-to-door than the Clock Tower hotels. For getting back from the Haram to the hotel, that is a bit longer depending on where you exit the masjid anddue to a slight uphill walk (nothing very demanding, non-elderly should be fine), though the walkway gets congested at busy times.
Alternatively, there is a shuttle which takes you from the main hotel entrance to street level in less than 2 minutes; from there you take escalator/lift to the Haram.
Would highly reccommend; only cons here would be no lotion in the bathroom and shower water pressure/temperature was not that high (very minor issues!)
The Makarem Ajyad Makkah Hotel is an excellent choice for pilgrims, offering a perfect combination of convenience and comfort with its prime location just a short walk from the King Abdulaziz Gate of the Haram, which made attending prayers effortless. The rooms were spacious, spotlessly clean, and well-maintained by the attentive housekeeping staff who ensured we had plenty of water daily. What truly stood out was the exceptional service from every team member, from reception to housekeeping, who were consistently courteous, welcoming, and eager to assist. With a delicious breakfast buffet, useful amenities like an ATM in the lobby, this hotel provides great value and a wonderful stay. I highly recommend it and would definitely return.

ممحمد المبيضVery reasonable price, excellent hotel cleanliness, and away from the noise. There's a complex of restaurants and cafes in the hotel square, and a distinct mosque nearby. There's also a shuttle service to the Haram every hour, as well as a return service, but the return is annoying because you have to take two buses.
GGuest UserJumeirah Hotel was excellent in terms of facilities — everything is new, clean, and well-maintained. Credit where it’s due: the staff were genuinely outstanding, extremely attentive, and always eager to help. Service level is easily one of the best.
Location-wise, it’s around a 4–6 minute walk to Al Haram, which is acceptable. However, let’s be real — compared to the Clock Tower hotels, they are noticeably closer and more convenient, especially during peak prayer times.
Now, about the “Partial Haram View” — this needs honesty. We booked two Deluxe Rooms with Partial Haram View, but the view is technically there… if you really look for it 😅. The Haram is barely visible, and most of the view is dominated by unfinished construction. You’ll spend more time spotting the Haram than enjoying it.
Bottom line:
Excellent hotel, top-tier service, great facilities — but don’t book it expecting a meaningful Haram view. If proximity and view matter, Clock Tower hotels still win.

GGuest UserThe hotel lies inside the clock towers which is very close to Masjid Al Haram and mall with many choices for dining and where hypermarket exists there . All you just need is to go through one elevator to ground zero to reach to Al Masjid Al Haram. The breakfast could have been much more diverse given the brand name .

GGuest UserHuge thanks and appreciation to the receptionist, Sara! She was a wonderful example of dedicated nationals who go above and beyond to serve the guests of God (referring to pilgrims or visitors to holy sites) with such warmth, cheerfulness, and excellent service. My thanks also go to the buffet staff and our Saudi coffee server, Abdulmajeed, and the rest of the team. Thanks to everyone for a truly unique experience!

GGuest UserThe reception area and the number of staff are completely inadequate for a hotel of this caliber. The staff themselves are friendly, but the waiting time to check into the rooms is far too long.

PPapayabananaThe reception was nice. The room was very tidy and the staff provided me hairdryer. Thank you!! There are many restaurants nearby and very closed to public transport. Convenient hotel!
