Traveling with my son for Mother's Day, I spent a lot of time searching online before deciding on this hotel, primarily for its convenient location. Upon arrival, the entrance was a bit underwhelming at first glance. However, once we stepped out of the elevator, it was a pleasant surprise – a hidden gem! The hotel environment is elegant and offers great privacy. We were upgraded to a LOFT room, which my son absolutely loved. I stayed downstairs and he stayed upstairs, giving us both our own space without disturbing each other. Bottled water was unlimited in the room, and you could also grab more from the front desk, along with complimentary lemon tea. The hotel's breakfast buffet was rich and varied, featuring local specialties like Minnan peanut soup, Mianxian paste, Five Spice rolls, and Ginger Duck. Both the front desk staff and the concierge provided excellent service. On the day we arrived, which was Mother's Day, there was a loud event happening on Zhongshan Road Pedestrian Street downstairs. The concierge thoughtfully brought us earplugs to use during our daytime rest, though it was very quiet outside our window at night, so our sleep wasn't affected. I also accidentally injured my knee during the trip, and the concierge kindly provided band-aids and iodine. Upon checkout, we even received a beautiful refrigerator magnet as a gift. The hotel is right next to Zhongshan Road Pedestrian Street, making it perfect for eating and shopping. I was extremely satisfied with this stay and will definitely choose this hotel again when I visit Xiamen next time.

This hotel offered a wonderfully thoughtful stay. The moment we arrived, the front desk attendant greeted us with a big, friendly smile. Her warm and considerate demeanor made us feel truly welcomed. We were just about to head out when it started pouring rain, and she proactively warned us about the slippery conditions and kindly lent us an umbrella, which was a real lifesaver for our outing. The hotel's location is also excellent, right in the middle of a bustling food street. This made ordering takeout incredibly convenient; our food arrived shortly after placing an order. Getting to nearby attractions by taxi was also quick and inexpensive. Plus, the hotel lobby has a dedicated cultural and creative products section, which was a huge bonus for us out-of-towners. We didn't have to go far to find a souvenir shop; we could easily pick up suitable gifts right there, which was very convenient.

The hotel boasts an excellent location, right above Zhongshan Road, a bustling street for dining and shopping. A major plus is the free parking. We booked a family room with a slide, which also came with building blocks, a rocking horse, dolls, and a tent – my child absolutely loved it! The room had a balcony, and the butler service was very attentive, promptly addressing any issues or requests we had.

This hotel feels like a natural oxygen bar! It's right next to a lake, and there are so many different types of trees on the property, making the air super fresh. Every morning, I woke up to the sound of birds singing. It's perfect for those driving, as there's ample parking both above ground and in a large underground garage. Within a few minutes' drive, you can find shops and restaurants, and major shopping areas like Nanmendou are just a 10-minute drive away. The staff here are incredibly welcoming. The security guards not only help with parking but also proactively offer to assist with luggage and guide you to the lobby, which was fantastic! Check-in was smooth, and the front desk staff even provided information about the swimming pool and gym without me asking. The hotel has a lovely Chinese courtyard style that's very comfortable. My room was clean and tidy, with a balcony and a great wet/dry separation in the bathroom. Each building has security personnel, which is a big plus. If you order takeout, it gets delivered to the first floor, and the security staff arrange for a little robot to bring it to your room – super cool! The breakfast offered a rich variety, including local rice noodles and vermicelli.

The Shangri-La Hotel exudes elegance and boasts a magnificent decor. The staff are warm and polite, and the rooms are quiet, comfortable, and well-equipped. The Fuzhou Shangri-La, where I stayed this time, enjoys an excellent location right next to a shopping and lifestyle plaza, making it convenient for dining, entertainment, shopping, and visiting major attractions. The hotel breakfast is rich and delicious, and the breakfast experience at the 22nd-floor Executive Lounge was particularly fantastic 🌹. Special thanks to Annie for arranging a room upgrade and complimentary fruit during check-in 👍, and to Cynthia for organizing amenities, and Cecili for a quick checkout and deposit return 👍. Shangri-La truly lives up to its reputation as a premier brand hotel and is my top choice for accommodation. I had a wonderful and unforgettable time here! 🌹

Years ago, I used to visit Xiamen (Lüdao) quite often, and some details just slipped my mind. You truly get a deeper feel for a place once you've genuinely integrated into it. In December 2023, I stayed in Xiamen for almost half a month due to training. My lasting impressions of this typical tourist city were the difficulty of getting a taxi, the narrow roads, and the tour groups everywhere. This time, on our way back after a food trip to Chaozhou, we decided to be smart. To avoid the massive crowds on Xiamen Island and Gulangyu, we chose to stay in a guesthouse in Jimei Study Village. We figured that since faraway tourists mostly flock to Baicheng Beach and Zhongshan Road, the sights outside the island hadn't yet gained widespread fame, so we should be able to enjoy plenty of peace and quiet. Unfortunately, things didn't go as planned. Banana Bay, Dragon Boat Pond, Dashe… everywhere was packed with people, and all entrances and exits had traffic controls in place. At first, everyone grumbled when they saw shared bikes were prohibited. But once you walked through the narrow alleys, you understood the administration's good intentions. After a stroll around, I felt that compared to the noise and disorder of Zengcuo'an and Shapowei, Jimei Dashe was much more orderly and clean. The small shops also had their own unique charm, no wonder it has become a new popular spot for Instagrammers.

The hotel feels a bit dated, but the location is excellent. The floor-to-ceiling windows in the room offer an unobstructed view of Yuandang Lake. Breakfast was fantastic, especially the noodle station. The clear noodle soup mixed with meat sauce was absolutely delicious.

We arrived at the hotel around 4 PM for two rooms, but one room wasn't ready until almost 6 PM. Honestly, I was quite surprised by the inefficiency; they really need to improve their speed. Upon entering the room, you could tell the hotel is a bit dated, and none of the facilities are smart. Our sea view room was located on a side with a vertical orientation, and the floor wasn't high enough, so we could only see a tiny glimpse of the sea diagonally. There are many outdoor pools and children's play facilities, but unfortunately, the water isn't heated. Due to the weather, we couldn't swim outdoors and had to use the indoor heated pool. The hotel provides sand-digging tools, and the beach is accessible through an underpass tunnel right outside the hotel. It was very crowded during the May Day holiday, but on a good day, you can still see the blue ocean. The hotel service isn't proactive; if you don't ask, they don't offer. I had noted in my order that we needed children's amenities, but they weren't in the room, so I had to call to have them sent up. Breakfast ends at 10:30 AM; the variety is quite rich, and the taste is decent. My child's favorite was Uncle Mario, who gave out balloons.

What a waste of a good location, the service was absolutely disgusting, I'm never coming back! I was traveling with my child and had a reservation. We arrived at 1:30 PM, only to be told there were no rooms available and we had to wait. Fine, I'll wait. But when I asked when a room would be ready, they said they didn't know, just 'before 3 PM,' with a totally impatient attitude. Finally, at 3:26 PM, they told me a room was ready... Okay, I swallowed that. But then they insisted I provide my infant child's household registration or ID? My kid has been on planes and high-speed trains without needing an ID, why is it different here? I even endured that. The worst part was the staff member's even more atrocious attitude. She threatened me, saying if I didn't show the child's ID, she'd call the duty manager!! Are you kidding me? Am I here to be threatened by you? I've stayed in 95% of five-star hotels all over the world, and none of them have such unique requirements. If your rules are different, can't you just explain it properly? Why threaten guests???? Why don't you just call the police and accuse me of child trafficking??? What a joke!!!!!!!!!!

This place makes me wish there was an option for six stars. I study Asian art for a living, and I travelled to Jianyang to visit the home of Jian ware, classic tea bowls of the Song dynasty (960 to 1279 CE), distinguished by their black and brown glazes. Over the last few decades, firing Jian ware in the Song tradition has been revived in the area. I chose Nanping Colourful Village Homestay because it was in Jianyang, affordable, and accepted international guests. What I found was a luxury resort with all the warmth and personal attention of a homestay. I asked the front desk about an excavated Song kiln site in a nearby village, and the receptionist brought me the manager, who arranged for someone to take me the next day. My driver was Ms. Huang, an employee of the resort whose job involves buying and selling contemporary pieces. She knew everything about Jian ware! The kiln site isn’t run as a tourist site, so I was only able to view it because Ms. Huang arranged for it to be opened for me. I had told them I was vegetarian, so for lunch they took me to lunch at a vegetarian buffet. Then we visited the town’s Jian ware museum, where they have exhibits on the history of tea and Jian ware, historical pieces, and the work of contemporary Jianyang potters. To my delight, Mr. Gao, the potter-in-residence at the resort, uses a Song-style wood-fired dragon kiln, built right on the grounds! His pieces that range from beautiful but quite affordable to exquisite and appropriately expensive. They include both iridescent silvery oil spot and orange-to-black hare’s fur pieces. I am still thrilled that I was able to purchase wood-fired pieces on my limited budget. For dinner, the resort’s restaurant prepared vegetarian versions of Fujian cuisine for me. The food was all delicious, featuring classic Fujianese mountain ingredients like local bamboo and mushrooms. Then we visited Mr. Gao’s dragon kiln, and later his studio, where he experiments with different local clays and glaze recipes. The rich colours and iridescence of Jian ware are the result of the iron-rich local material fired at high temperature, and the results are as unpredictable as they are beautiful. The next day, they drove me to Mr. Chen’s family tea plantation in the mountains, where they grow famous northern Fujian teas. These fine teas were all wonderful, smooth and rich with a touch of smoke, and sometimes fruity in flavour. We strolled through mountainsides of tea bushes and visited groves of centuries-old tea trees. This is a perfect place for an immersive experience in China that is also very comfortable and convenient. I often find tourist experiences in China claustrophobic due to the press of people, but the resort was spacious and airy, and they took me to places where there was no one else but us and the occasional local going about their business. Everyone was very patient with my limited Chinese language skills. They were also happy to work with translator apps on our phones, so if you don’t speak any Chinese, you will be fine. This would be a great place to come as a family. There are gardens and rides for kids right next to the resort. You can learn how to whip Song-style tea and carve your name into the base of your own Jian ware cup. Not far away is a historical theme park with a collection of real architecture from the Ming (1368 to 1644 CE) and Qing (1636 to 1912 CE) dynasties. The employees wear period dress and there are performances and activities. Nearby there are hiking trails, historical sites, and lovely villages to visit. It’s also very close to Wuyi Mountain National Park, so it would be a perfect place to stay if the mountains are your destination. If you ask, they could arrange for you to visit famous sites or take you to breathtaking places that only locals know, whatever you want. They can also arrange transport to and from the train station or airport.
