Beautiful hotel with Mountain Views. The hotel looks spectacular and is very clean. The room is very spacious. Location is perfect as it shares the same building as the mall. You can use the lift which brings you directly to the mall. The mall has shops like Uniqlo, ABC Mart and many more, including a food court with various food options. There are 3 washing machines in both the male & female public onsen area, however it is pretty difficult to get a chance to wash your clothes. The hotel seems like a popular wedding venue, however it does not disrupt the stay as the guests do not seem to linger in the lobby at all. There's a Nescafé coffee machine which you can help yourself to outside the public onsen, along with Kumamoto's fresh spring water tap for drinking. For parking, please avoid the carpark infront of the mall as it is expensive. If you're facing the mall, the hotel's carpark is at the left side basement of the mall. The hotel provides a discounted price at off-peak periods. It's best to leave your hotel before 12 noon. It is paid parking and there's a ticket machine at the basement entrance of the hotel. The hotel location is perfect as it is also very close to a station.
I booked a family room for four. While the hallway was long and narrow, the room itself was quite spacious, and it was comfortable for three people without feeling cramped. The bottled water provided in the room had cute packaging, and the soba noodles served during late-night supper were also tasty.
My only issue is that the entire hotel requires guests to remove their shoes upon entry. For such a large space, it's hard to guarantee absolute hygiene, and seeing some guests walk barefoot on the floor made me a bit uncomfortable. It would be better if the lobby could provide indoor slippers after shoe removal.
The hotel's cafeteria offered a decent variety of food with a home-cooked taste. It was quite crowded, but everyone was orderly.
The outdoor hot spring in the public bathhouse had virtually no view; it was very ordinary and lacked any special features, feeling more like a regular hot water pool. It also tended to get crowded, so you'd have to go very early or very late to find it less busy.
Although there were free popsicles, comics, and a fresh milk vending machine outside the bathhouse's lounge, the area was small and constantly crowded in the evening, so I just took a quick look and returned to my room.
The hotel's location is decent, very close to the shopping street. There's a very popular ramen shop across the street that you could try, but I found the taste to be just average.
Facilities: The restaurant area on the first floor is a real highlight. They have a happy hour in the evening with over 10 different drinks, including Japanese sake, plum wine, and whiskey, plus other beverages and water. Breakfast can get a bit crowded, and the food supply is sometimes a little tight.
Cleanliness: Very clean, couldn't find a single fault with the hygiene.
Environment: It's right opposite the AMU shopping mall, and just a 5-minute walk from JR Kumamoto Station. Super convenient for dining, accommodation, and transportation.
Service: Excellent! When we checked in, due to the language barrier, three different front desk staff members helped us with the process.
This hotel is super convenient, located directly across the street from the Kumamoto Sakuramachi Bus Terminal! There's a large supermarket right next door, and the Sakuramachi shopping mall across the street is fantastic for shopping, dining, and family-friendly activities. While the hotel is a bit older, it's very well-maintained. We booked a corner room with our child, and it was spacious enough for two 24-inch suitcases to lay flat without getting in the way. Do note that there's an additional charge of 3000 JPY per night for children. The hotel's hot spring is very comfortable and quite popular. It features an indoor cold pool, a hot pool, a sauna, and an outdoor bath. Yakult is available in the morning, and various cold drinks are offered in the evening. The hotel also serves complimentary soba noodles from 9:30 PM to 11:00 PM, which were delicious! Overall, it offers great value for money.
The location itself is practically impossible to get to without a car. Parking is conveniently provided, as it's exclusive to the ryokan. The surrounding atmosphere is very satisfying. However, you'll need to rent everything from towels to yukatas at the ryokan. Breakfast is simple. There's a nearby place offering free sulfur hell steaming, so you can just buy eggs and cook them yourself (50 yen). You can also make other sulfur-based dishes if you'd like! I was disappointed that there was only one hot spring, and the water wasn't particularly special.
Overall... Spend more and go somewhere better.
The hotel staff were incredibly friendly and polite, with radiant smiles (the kind where even your eyes seem to smile). The front desk staff even came out to greet us when we checked out, offered to take commemorative photos, and helped us drive our car across the street. They greeted us again as we drove away; we truly felt their warmth and hospitality.
The room was also very large (super large for a pure Japanese-style room; I roughly counted over 25 tatami mats in the main space), and the view was fantastic, overlooking a river, with the sound of flowing water (of course, you had to open the window; the soundproofing was quite good).
The onsen (hot spring) is another highlight of the hotel. We took the hotel's free shuttle bus, which runs every 20-30 minutes from the hotel entrance. It takes you to the hotel's open-air onsen, which has five different types, all of which were amazing, though surprisingly few people were using them 😂😂😂 My friends also said it would be a worthwhile experience to stay here again.
Overall, a fantastic stay! I really appreciated the complimentary drinks and the spacious bathtub in the room. The service was excellent, and I'll definitely be returning for another visit. My only minor critique is that the location isn't the most convenient, but despite that, I found the overall experience to be very satisfactory.
I really liked the hot springs with high iron content in this ryokan: I had sore throat for about 3 weeks before the journey, but it recovered just after the first bath. We also liked that family baths are for free if they are vacant (in the evening there wasn't any problem). The staff is attentive, thank you very much. The food was delicious, and there was more than enough for a man. However, we would recommend choosing a Japanese-style breakfast, since frying eggs on a burner is not very convenient. Nevertheless, everything was delicious. As for the drinks for breakfast, there was only coffee from the coffee machine. But there is always green tea in the room (we had problems with the hot pot, so they brought us a thermos).
The only thing we did not like was the heating. However, it is unlikely to do anything with it when it is minus 3 degrees outside at night. Without heating, it was very cold, the floor was cold. But the heating is very noisy, and it is difficult to find a temperature balance. We sweated a lot at night under the blankets, and since the shower is not in the room - it is in the onsen, it was inconvenient. Thanks God, we had spare pajamas with us.
Overall, for this cost of accommodation we can give 5 points.
To be expected in such a small town, the hotel is quite old and dated. The tatami room can accommodate four futons for a family of four, but there is almost no room left for anything else. The public onsen on 1F and roof are included with your stay. This hotel is great value for money if you know what a traditional Japanese onsen hotel is like.
The room was very beautiful for the years, it was very large, the windows were beautiful, and I wanted to see the sunset overlooking the sea, the bath was very comfortable with the hot spring, but it was a pity that it was small, It was really nice because it was a hot spring, the starry sky was visible from the window and it was about to come down now, so it was really beautiful 、 The meal was also sashimi-inspired and delicious, the abalone dance is soft and thick and delicious It was good, I am very satisfied.

I love this camp. the location is easy to travel to any other tourist spot , it is on the opposit conor of aso station, there is Lawson on the opposit as well. The camp is lovely both interior or exterior, the living room, the toilet, the shower are clean, the kitchen is lovely you can cook but you have ro clean them by yourself. The room are cheap but very clean.the staff are so nice. If I visit aso I will stay at this hotel again.
An absolutely wonderful experience. The staff at the ryokan were incredibly polite and always ready to help with anything we needed. Upon check-in, we were provided with traditional attire, pajamas, tabi slippers, bath amenities, and a small welcome treat with matcha and coffee. We also asked at the front desk if they could give us a ride to the bus stop after check-out, and they kindly said yes, of course. Our room was spacious, clean, and beautifully decorated. At first, we were planning to explore several other local onsens, but after experiencing the ones at the ryokan, we felt completely satisfied. There are separate baths for hotel guests (men’s and women’s), baths open to both guests and visitors (also divided by gender), as well as a private onsen. One of the onsens also has a sauna. The traditional dinner and breakfast were both impressive—delicious and very generous in portion. The surrounding grounds are stunning, perfect for peaceful walks. This ryokan is a bit further from the main cluster of inns, but that was exactly what we wanted—to enjoy quiet walking. At night, our futons were laid out for us, adding to the authentic experience. The only reason I deducted one star is the very bright green light on the ceiling that stays on all night and can’t be turned off or covered. I didn’t have a sleep mask with me, and the ryokan didn’t provide one, so I had a sleepless night. It was quite unpleasant. That said, I still highly recommend this ryokan—it’s an unforgettable place to stay.
Relaxing sanctuary hotel in a super location minutes away from JR Kumamoto. Well trained polite staff and courteous, gave a kumamoto kids kit for my kids! Free coffee, easy lift access to the mall, parked at the basement for 1000 jpy only per night.
Room was reasonably large. Free drinks 18:00 to 21:00. Large bath. Friendly staff. Try the hotel restaurant below ”Ryosai” for some sashimi (horse included)
Less than 5mins from the Kumamoto station (but note that the station is not close to the city centre). Room is clean, breakfast is free and good taste, the public bath is not large but still very relaxing.
We drove to the hotel for one night stay near Aso Mountain. Free parking available. Beautiful view, and we are able to catch the sunset by 18:00 after checking in. We chose to enjoy the onsen first before buffet dinner. We did the right thing, as after onsen, we are starving. They provide a range of fish sashimi , horse sashimi, sushi, noodles, bbq, hot dishes. All you can drink for me yay! There's free ramen at 9:30-10:30 and I had a bowl of specially made ramen before bed. Buffet breakfast is also spot on, we had a full stomach before heading to other locations around Aso the other day. Great deal, great service! And there's Kumamoto souvenirs for last minute purchase!
This place is simply gorgeous. The hotel is beautifully designed to give a real zen feeling. The room was spacious enough for a family, the bed was plush (they also had tatami for those interested) and they even offered Kose skincare products in the room. It had big sliding doors that offered its own Japanese garden and quality tea set to brew your own tea in the room. The breakfast was simple but wholesome (not a single fried food in sight) and offering fresh ingredients. The only drawbacks for me was 1) there were no shower in the room, so you had to use the public bathing area and 2) this ryokan is a fair bit away from Kurokawa Onsen so it is an inconvenient if you’re looking to do some onsen-hopping. Having your own car would be ideal. If you have the time, I would highly recommend staying at the Hanashoan to experience some relaxing time.
