The hotel provides a shuttle bus every half hour from the L'Occitane store at the Karuizawa Station outlet mall, which is very convenient. Staying in the West Wing, it's only a 10-minute walk to the outlet, making it ideal for families with elderly members and children. The lobby has a convenience store where you can buy local specialties and snacks. There's a particular Karuizawa specialty chocolate that's delicious and not available on Taobao. The hot springs are uncrowded and clean; we went every day during our two-day stay. The room itself is pretty standard, but that's fine since you'll be out and about exploring most of the time, not spending much time in the room. When checking in, you have to choose a breakfast time. I don't think it matters much if you don't stick to it exactly, but you'll still have to queue for a bit at the entrance. It gets quite busy in the mornings, but they manage the crowd very orderly. For those traveling with elderly family members and children, I highly recommend staying in the West Wing – it's convenient for getting everywhere.

Convenient transportation and comfortable rooms. The hotel is not far from Nagano Station, about a 6-7 minute walk. Although breakfast is not served, there are convenience stores nearby. It has a large hot spring bath, spacious rooms, and comfortable beds. Overall, it is affordable and offers good value for money.

The hotel is brand new. The room is lovely and so spacious! The bed was huge and it was comfortable, we all slept well every night. Staff were courteous and attentive. We really enjoyed our stay here. The hotel location is also perfect, right on old karuizawa ginza street with many food and shopping options nearby during the day. The breakfast options were very limited and the food was the same every day, so I found it a challenge to feed my toddler. Basic food items like cereal and slice bread were not available. The fruit options were also limited and not the most child friendly e.g. pineapple, grapefruit and grapes. Also, the rooms are not made every day but you can request for the staff to clean and make the room. Overall we still had a great stay and hope to visit again soon.

Buffet breakfast was great, children eats free. We have a car so is accessible. Ski field a short 8 mins away. Onsen was nice, unfortunately not all guests followed the rules. Would be perfect if they provided Japanese toiletries in the hotel room (Dove brand provided). Room with balcony was beautiful. Overall we really enjoyed our stay, the facilities, hospitality. Highly recommended.

I stayed at this hotel for one night, and overall, it was quite a pleasant experience. I really liked my room — it was clean, modern, and comfortable. The only thing that surprised me was that the window to the balcony didn’t open, though I suppose it was designed that way. The onsen was absolutely wonderful — spacious, relaxing, and with a beautiful view of a mountain river. Definitely one of the highlights of my stay. The hotel also offers many different areas for leisure and entertainment. You can play table tennis, relax in cozy rest zones, visit small cafés and shops — there’s a lot to explore without even leaving the building. Both breakfast and dinner were delicious, with a wide variety of food to choose from. However, due to the number of guests, it was a bit challenging for the staff to manage everything smoothly. On two occasions, someone almost took my table, even though I had already placed the reservation card on it to show it was taken. That said, the staff overall were very pleasant, friendly, and helpful, and I appreciated their attitude throughout my stay. This hotel is clearly family-oriented, with many families staying with young children. There are rooms with child-friendly designs and dedicated play areas, so if you’re looking for a quiet, adult-only atmosphere, this might not be the best fit. That said, I genuinely enjoyed my stay and would consider coming back.

As a loyal Dormy Inn guest, it's my top choice for winter trips. I stayed for three nights, and even though I was worried it might be a bit old since it's been open for a while, it wasn't at all – very clean. For about 250 per person, to get a hotel with a hot spring, sauna, ramen, and massage chairs – what more could you ask for?! You don't have to book breakfast; there's a 7-Eleven next door and a Starbucks across the street. When I pushed open the door to the outdoor bath, it was snowing heavily – a beautiful moment added to life!

I highly recommend this hotel, it should be one of the best in Nozawa. The rooms are spacious and the hotel staff are also very professional and enthusiastic. I especially recommend the hotel's own hot springs, which have very good facilities and are decorated in a romantic atmosphere. It happened that after skiing, it was snowing, and the open-air hot spring felt particularly good.

For a single room, I was able to relax in a spacious room. The hotel itself isn't on the lake, but there was a lake view between the buildings lol lol The hot spring water was also very refreshing!

Stayed in the hotel for 5 nights in January 2026. Staffs were courteos and helpful. Room was large compared to other Japanese hotels, comparable to what you would normally see in other countries. The room was clean but furnitures are a bit dated, and the mattress and pillow was too soft and thin for my liking. The hotel did not have that much amenities other than the onsen, which was nice. Overall it was a good stay, albeit unremarkable.

DO NOT GO TO this hotel if you need vegetarian, vegan, or halal food, or have any food allergies or dietary requirements. The hotel says that they do not cater to these (have enclosed their email response).  It’s a really beautiful property and the Onsen is amazing. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The dinner buffet spread is huge, but there is nothing hot for vegetarians except lukewarm pizza. Even the fried rice, Mapu tofu, and soups included fish or pork or chicken.  When I requested for something hot for dinner, the chef took chilled soba noodles, added hot water and salt, and gave those to me. For the dinner next day, I spoke to the manager in the morning and I was promised veg hot Mapu tofu, miso soup and something else. But when we went for dinner, the only special dish that had been prepared for us was cold soba noodles with hot water, salt, AND mushrooms. When I mentioned that the manager had promised additional items, the serving staff called the manager, and there was a big disagreement between the manager, the chef and the restaurant staff, and the kitchen staff refused to make anything else. The hotel is in the middle of nowhere. Even if you take a taxi to the nearest town (Nagiso), it is Yen 50,000 one way fare to get there and everything closes by 5 pm. So either choose a different hotel or bring your own food with you.

JJin Ki DadStaying at Shoho in Matsumoto was an unforgettable experience that truly deserves five stars. Nestled amidst the serene landscapes of Nagano Prefecture, this hotel seamlessly blends traditional Japanese elegance with modern luxury. From the moment we stepped into the lobby, we were enveloped by a warm and inviting ambiance that set the tone for the rest of our stay. Our room was a perfect sanctuary—spacious, meticulously clean, and adorned with subtle touches of Japanese artistry. The panoramic views of the Japanese Alps from our window were nothing short of breathtaking, especially when the mountains were bathed in the soft glow of sunrise. The traditional tatami flooring and comfortable futon bedding provided an authentic experience without sacrificing comfort. One of the standout features of Shoho is its exceptional onsen facilities. Soaking in the natural hot springs while gazing at the picturesque scenery was incredibly rejuvenating. The rotenburo (outdoor bath) offered a tranquil escape where the stresses of daily life simply melted away. The hotel's attention to detail extended to these spaces, with beautifully crafted woodwork and stone elements enhancing the overall atmosphere. Culinary delights awaited us at every meal. The kaiseki dinner was a masterpiece—a multi-course feast that highlighted seasonal and local ingredients. Each dish was artfully presented and demonstrated a profound respect for Japanese culinary traditions. The breakfast buffet was equally impressive, offering a wide array of both Japanese and Western options to suit all palates. The staff at Shoho went above and beyond to ensure our stay was exceptional. Their genuine hospitality was evident in every interaction, from assisting with our luggage to offering insightful recommendations on local attractions. Despite any language barriers, their kindness and professionalism shone through. The hotel's location is ideal for exploring the rich cultural heritage of Matsumoto. We were just a short drive from the iconic Matsumoto Castle, one of Japan's most beautiful original castles. Strolling through the historic Nakamachi Street with its classic white-walled storehouses turned boutique shops and cafes was a delightful way to spend an afternoon. In addition to its proximity to cultural sites, Shoho serves as a great base for nature enthusiasts. The nearby Kamikochi Valley offers stunning hiking trails that showcase the unspoiled beauty of the Japanese Alps. Returning to the comfort of the hotel after a day of exploration was something we looked forward to, especially knowing a soothing onsen soak awaited us. In summary, Shoho encapsulates the essence of Japanese hospitality. Every aspect of our stay was thoughtfully curated to provide comfort, relaxation, and cultural enrichment. We left feeling deeply refreshed and with a greater appreciation for the wonders of Matsumoto. Shoho is more than just a place to stay—it's an experience that lingers long after you've departed. We wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone seeking an authentic and luxurious retreat in Japan.

GGuest UserWe really liked the place, the fact of having a private bathroom in the room helps a lot to relax and enjoy the traditional experience more. As for the facilities, in general everything is fine, being able to use all the bathrooms in the ryokan makes it a more pleasant experience. The room was a bit dusty but overall it was fine. As for the service, very good at dinner but it should be noted that if you ask them for a recommendation they have a hard time telling you since it is outside their script. At breakfast, from our point of view it is a bit colder, they have it already prepared on the corresponding table and they do not tell you how they do it during dinner. Likewise, we consider that during the stay the staff is not very attentive to the guests and they do not inform you of all the services they can offer you. You can buy yukata at the hotel itself for approximately 5000 yen.

GGuest UserThe room was immaculately clean, and the welcoming staff was very friendly. We had a French set menu for dinner, which was delicious! The breakfast buffet offered both Japanese and Western dishes, and the food was delicious and varied! Another fun thing was the short tram ride to the hot spring baths. The water is natural, and it was a delightful experience to soak in the baths while gazing at the distant mountain views! It's a perfect place to relax and unwind on vacation!

GGuest UserThe reality exceeded my expectations; the hotel was even better than I imagined. The room was very comfortable for a family with a small child! There's a private hot spring for families available by reservation, though the usage time is a bit short, it's still great overall! The food is high-quality, delicious, and varied. It's also possible to extend your stay for 1000 yen per hour, which is super convenient when traveling with a child. The hotel corridors aren't perfectly clean due to age, but the room itself is clean and pleasant.

MMeowVanWhat an awesome experience! The hotel offered exemplary service before we even arrived. Due to special travel arrangements, we arrived late and the staff quick to arrange an in-room bento dinner for us before our arrival. When we got there, we were immediately blown away by the gorgeousness of the hotel. Despite its age, everything was very clean and polished. I can see that great care had been taken to upkeep the hotel and it’s premises, which are extraordinarily beautiful. We couldn’t resist taking pictures even after check-out, and it took us an hour to finally reluctantly leave. Words cannot actually do the place justice, you must visit there yourself. We were very impressed with how delicious the food was, and the attention to detail, including the placement of the food, the coordination of food color. My mouth is still watering as I recall how delicious it was. I had 10 helpings of their prime rib one day. Besides, I had a dietary restriction and the staff were really careful with that, to the extent of reminding me what dishes not to eat everyday at their breakfast and dinner buffet. In addition to excellent food and service, the hotel went out of its way to be very eco-friendly. For every day that we did not need our room to be tidied, we earned points, which can be traded in for ice cream or other goodies. Finally, the staff spoke perfect English. This is rare indeed, and it made everything so much easier and so much more enjoyable. Thanks for the experience!

AAmanda-Ng-Lovely hotel in the middle of Hakuba. Location is a little secluded and without a car, it takes some effort to get to the city or around. We were happy to stay and chill at the hotel though. Opted for half board (Dinner provided) Super convenient with the ski rental on site, and shuttle buses to ski resorts provided. Onsen: newly refurbished and amazing! Breakfast and Dinner : was pleasantly surprised by the dinner provided it was a 6 course dinner Jap-French inspired. Had lovely meals every evening. In house ski rental : it’s good that there is one onsite. However the service was less than desirable. Rented a snowboard and requested for regular stance, the young guy provided a goofy stance set up. I only noticed the next day, after bringing it back - and the same young guy was not at the shop. Approached the concierge where the staff then very impatient and frustratingly fixed it for me.. Transport to the ski resort: asked the staff to help book us a taxi to get to Nagano station when we were leaving the next day. Their taxi company was full so they said they couldn’t do anything. We then asked for alternatives, the concierge suggested a shuttle bus to Nagano station, but shortly after said it was not possible as the hotel shuttle didn’t start that early. The staff just seemed abit unwilling to help, and also unclear about how guests leave the hotel. To future travellers; Prepare beforehand - book a taxi / bus in advance and don’t expect the hotel to help

HHanaLocation is great, it is just on the main road and by the lake. I remember there was a Lawon convenient store not far away when we drove past. We stayed there for 1 night. I highly doubt if we were given the wrong room type, as I booked a room that can see the full Suwa Lake, but the room we have got is at the corner. It is because of the cherry blossom season, there are so many mosquitos outside so we couldn't open any window. According to the information provided by the hotel, the mosquitos don't bite human, but create stains on clothings. Anyway, the room has a private onsen. It was quite small, and look a bit old. The water is very hot, though I couldn't smell any sulfur so it is not a real hot spring. As the windows can't be opened, so it is a quite stuffy inside the bathroom. The room has equipped with all amenities, but no bottled water. The hotel mentioned the water is drinkable from the tab. The room is quite clean and spacious. The mattress is quite nice, it was good for taking a rest after a whole day trip. We chose the meal package (breakfast and dinner). They were both Japanese style with a lot of dishes and options. Food is great. Nagano is not a place that produces meat, so mainly there are a lot of vegetables. With the price we paid for, the hotel services, food and everything is quite reasonable. However, the hotel is a bit old. Nothing is special other than providing a clean room to sleep.
