The accommodation is excellent! It might be a bit far from the station, but the atmosphere is great, the floor heating is cozy, and it's very private. The facilities are fully equipped. We really love this brand.
It is very similar to Karuizawa's, the guest room is oversized, and the forest is outside the glass window, like living in a tree house.
🍣 Meal: Continuing FuFu tradition, fresh local ingredients, healthy and delicious. Japanese/Western style for breakfast, Kaiseki/Teppanyaki for dinner.
♨️ Hot spring: In addition to the private soup in the room, there is also a big hot spring! Men and women switch time-sharing, go at 9 o'clock in the evening, one person contracted the entire large bath, quiet enough to hear the wind.
💡 Service: When dining, you will take the initiative to ask about the itinerary, give route suggestions and practical tips, and be intimate and just right.
[Location: Leaving the Wheel King Temple, Shenqiao, Dongzhao Palace are very close, within walking distance.
The environment is elegant, and I really liked the Western and Japanese style rooms. The spa was also very comfortable 😌...
Breakfast is too early, 7:30 and 8:00 – I'm still half asleep! This is a vacation, not going to work. Can't the time be pushed back a bit?
We booked dinner, but we arrived late at 7:50 PM, and dinner was gone. We had called them at 7:10 PM to let them know we were stuck in traffic, but the hotel said dinner was gone and wouldn't refund us 😏.
4.5 stars! Property is older but extremely well maintained. The corner western/Japanese rooms are spacious with two western beds and tatami area, single japanese bath and shower area and separate toilet area, mini fridge, tv, sitting area overlooking the river and table with four chairs as well as a massage chair! Onsen area has both indoor and outdoor areas separate for men and women and a cold plunge as well as multiple hot baths. Minus half a star for low staffing in the store/cafe areas (often no staff member to be found when kakigori desired), no in house lunch option and overly fatty meat on the 3rd night dinner (breakfast and dinner were LARGE and BEAUTIFUL but perhaps heavy on the yuba. Also, shuttle to the train station is only at 10 and 11am and getting cabs is difficult. However, would overwhelmingly recommend Nikko Senhime Monogatari!
This is a pure Japanese private bath. Please remove your shoes upon entering the hotel. Soaking in the valley stream feels wonderful. However, please note that only breakfast and dinner (traditional Japanese dishes) are provided. Lunch is optional. The train station is a 30-40 minute drive away. Don't expect too much from the traditional Japanese cuisine for dinner.
I had a truly wonderful day at this hotel on March 2, 2026. The front desk staff, Ms. Qing, was incredibly professional and multilingual. She explained the hotel's policies and information clearly and politely, making me feel like I had stepped into a five-star hotel. I also enjoyed both dinner and breakfast; the food was delicious and perfectly suited my taste. Ms. Qing also handled the restaurant service, and I was amazed at how she could manage so many tasks simultaneously while providing such excellent service. She was very attentive not only to me but also to other guests, and I was extremely satisfied. The hotel was very quiet, and it was a memorable and lovely stay. I would definitely like to return when I have the time.
This time was a family trip. We were really satisfied with both the hot springs and the food. The staff were also incredibly kind. They explained and recommended local attractions in great detail, which was a huge help. I'll definitely be back with friends.
There are shuttle buses from Tobu Nikko Station and Jr Nikko Station every hour. It feels quite convenient. It takes about 20 minutes to drive from the station to the hotel.
The hotel is in the mountains, the environment and air are very good.
Staying for 1 night and 2 nights, we took the shuttle bus at 4 o'clock and arrived at the hotel at around 5 o'clock. It was the second batch's turn for dinner at around 7 o'clock. We couldn't change the time, so we waited until we were hungry. Dinner is still very rich, with a variety of good dishes, and the steak is recommended. There are also a variety of alcoholic beverages. Breakfast was also good.
The hot spring is on the top floor, the water is very good, and there is an outdoor hot spring. You can soak in the hot spring and enjoy the night, moonlight or starry sky.
The hotel room is also large and overall very good.
Disadvantages: The pillows are not very comfortable and a bit hard. In addition, the sink and table are relatively low in design, making them not very convenient to use.
It’s been such a nice stay, the room is large and clean, the traditional decor is perfectly introduced into the vibe of Nikko. The dinner and breakfast were perfectly served. Plus, they have a very nice souvenir shop on the first floor, bought a few socks there. Finally, the onsen was brilliant, also large room and a small onsen outside on a balcony. I regret staying only for one night.
Excellent staff, location and facilities. We enjoyed the food and the private hot tub on our balcony. All of the staff were very friendly, and went above and beyond with any request.
Just avoid getting a massage. The masseuse was horrible. She had my wife keep her robe on and then covered her with towels before roughly rubbing her. She ended up with rug burns on her feet and a kinked neck. If you can avoid that disaster you will have a wonderful time here.

GGuest UserThe BEST hostel I ever stayed in! If you are staying in Lake Chuzenji in Nikko you got to stay here.
It is a hostel within a hotel so it is very clean, safe and very big. The staff are very friendly and everything is amazing.
They have a free onsen + a lounge with drinks, tea, wine, coffee, and ice cream bars that you could take! They have a microwave too if you need it and a hot water dispenser.
The hotel is right in front of the lake so you know you’re gonna have a good time! The bus station is also right in front and if you are parking they have plenty of space!
You have to come here. I will come here again!
JJ. SimonThe hotel is around 10mins walk from Kinugawa-Onsen Station. Although there are many abandoned hotels, shops, residences, buildings around the surrounding area, I can still explore the area as the street lights are lit in the evening.
The hotel is divided into different wings and occupies a large area. I stayed in the upper floors of the hotel’s main building (Kirakukan) but there’s an option to stay at the hotel’s park-cottages that is built on the cliff of the riverbank and overlooks the Kinugawa river.
The Kinugawa Park Cottage is located separately further away from the main building.
I only noticed a local Japanese family of four or five persons being escorted by the hotel staff to one of the cottages.
Other than that one-off encounter, I didn’t see anyone else at the area around the cottage which is also super quiet.
Likewise for the other wings of the hotel i.e. Kinoyakata and Kishintei, I didn’t see any guests maybe due to low season.
Love the onsen and the private open-air bath, the traditional Japanese kaiseiki breakfast and dinner.
There’s also a souvenir shop, ramen & snack shop as well as an outdoor swimming pool which I couldn’t use as it is only available for use come summer time.
Just across the road from the hotel, there’s the Waterside Cafe Terrace, a 7-Eleven convenience store adjacent to the hotel and since there’s no self-service washing machine/dryer in the hotel, the nearest 24h laundromat is around a 5-min walk from the hotel located behind the Waterside Cafe Terrace and across the road facing “Galarie Cafe Painto E”.
On the day of check-out, the hotel helped to store my luggage and I had lunch at “Suzukawa Cafe” just next to Galarie Cafe Painto E. The food prices here are slightly cheaper than the ones near Kinugawa-Onsen station.
MMargaret TomLove the area and the outdoor public baths. The meals were good. My husband complained that there’s no meat but I like all the vegetarian dishes provided. Tasted very good. There’s a small fried fish and few sashimi slices. My husband rates the food to be 3/10 while I rate it 5/10 as I am amazed at how they make vegetarian dishes so well.
They do not serve any fish for breakfast which is quite unlike other ryokan we had been to. They had more vegetables and an egg for breakfast. I liked it though.
The ryokan had free shuttle service for pick up and drop off to coincide with the bus times, very convenient, responsible and timely.
JJaytwkMy stay at Hotel Hatago Nagomi was a lovely experience. While the property is a bit on the older side, it more than makes up for it with a cozy atmosphere and excellent service.
Waking up to a direct view of the lake from my room was a highlight, as was winding down in the relaxing on-site hot spring. The three-course Japanese dinner was absolutely awesome and offered incredible quality for a very standard price. It’s a perfect, comfortable home base for anyone looking for an authentic stay in Nikko.

SSteve SiauwOne of the worst locations at Kinugawa Onsen area. Hidden in the mountain, no significantly beautiful view. Despite we need to pay for ”Hoshino Resort price”, unlike other cheaper hotels, we need to PAY for TAXI ourselves and getting a taxi during new year time is a terribly painful. Hotel staff lack of initiatives getting us cab instead we need to open different apps and such ... and on the way back the following day we ended up walking for 20 mins by ourselves .... Food is ok, onsen is ok, cleanliness ok, but nothing super ordinary. You can pay attention to details in decorations and inhouse services, but you can't pay attention to one of the most obvious services you HAVE TO provide to your guests, Hoshino ---- shuttle service .......
GGuest UserThe location is really good. 10 mins away from the station. Easy to find. Big hotel, about 11 floors. The room is quite spacious, part in western style with beds and part in japaneese with tatamis. There is sink in themiddle of the room, quite comfy. Good view to the mountain and forest from the window, 9th floor. Nice yukata to wear, i liked the outerpart. Breakfast and dinner is buffet, quite big choice, free beer for dinner, not so many fruits, no cakes for breakfast (dinner only). There is sushi and sashimi choice, delicious food. Onsen is quite good, clean, big. Will recommend to stay here
GGuest UserEach of my 3 days here I’d in Nikko I’d return to NSHC after a big day exploring and appreciate what a great place. Excellent centrally convenient to both stations (when arriving/departing and the bus stops to various regions), clean, warm, quiet, friendly, efficient, hot onsen (in & outdoors), spacious and pleasing facilities, good value & abundant breakfast which is discounted weekdays to 1500 yen (though don’t think of getting a sandwich or fruit past the hawkeye ladies attending. It’s a place that everything has been thought of and runs well. And a very secure luggage storage system if you arrive before 3pm check-in to let easily you visit the amazing World Heritage Areas by bus. Highly recommended.

AAnonymous UserFirst of all, let me praise the hotel's service. It is simply a model. You can experience 100% care, 100% seriousness, and 100% diligence. In addition to meeting the various requirements of guests, a tip is that when you arrive at Kinugawa Onsen Station, you don’t need to take a ride. Let the hotel know in advance and the hotel will send a car to pick you up at the station. Of course, it will also be delivered to the station. In fact, the station is not far from the hotel, only a few hundred meters, and it is quite fast to walk there.
The restaurant's food quality is good, whether for breakfast or dinner, it is worthy of praise. Sometimes the restaurant is full of customers and the three waitresses keep running around. It’s so hard.
The hot spring water is so hot that I'll be sweating after a while.
The room is large in size and the facilities are average.
Because the price is not expensive, there are so many guests here that it is always full. Yes, a good hotel will naturally attract more people.
