The hotel itself is in a good location. 10 minutes walk from the local station and with a beautiful view of the ocean. It is a charming hotel with an open air hot spring which was the highlight for me. The staff are very friendly and happy to help. They mostly speak enough English to help if you don’t know much Japanese. The breakfast and dinner was included with the price and very tasty ryokan style Kaiseki dinner where a very helpful waitress explained every course I stayed in a Japanese style room and for a westerner it was not the most comfortable stay but that is on me and not the hotel! I would add the room was quite dusty though I am not sure if that is due to the tatami mats. They provide bus schedule information for guests who visit to see the Daimonzaka, Nachi Falls and Seigantoji Altogether a good stay but if you are used to western style beds I recommend you choose those rooms

The room was very spacious and had no strange smells. The hotel staff even helped move our stored luggage into the room and provided complimentary snacks and water, which was a very thoughtful touch! The TV showed the occupancy of various public areas, which was super considerate. The hot springs were also very comfortable, with good ambiance and cleanliness. After a dip, they offered popsicles, which was a nice treat. There were two large bookshelves nearby where you could pick out your favorite manga to read, and right outside was the massage chair area – absolutely perfect! In the evening, they offered free late-night noodles that were quite tasty, and there was a self-service drink bar. The breakfast buffet had a wide variety of choices, and I even got to try local specialty sushi, which was a unique experience. There was an electronic scale at the stairwell for weighing luggage, which was very convenient. I'd love to visit again if I get the chance!

The day I stayed, the turtle boat wasn't running... I also wasn't sure if the hotel offered shuttle service from the station... The room was decent, the hotel seems to have been renovated so it's not too old, and no wonder I couldn't book a room at the Risenkan recently, it's undergoing renovations. The food, as expected, was very ordinary... so ordinary I didn't even bother taking pictures, hahaha. Most people probably go there just for the Bōkaidō (Forgotten Cave). Be careful at night, there are insects around. The other hot springs are just like public bathhouses and not worth visiting. Here comes the most frustrating part. For a hotel costing nearly 3,000 yen a night, I left something in my room and wanted them to send it quickly (at the time, there was still a day and a half, plenty of time to send it to Kyoto or Osaka). The hotel's first response on the phone was ”Japanese only.” Considering at least 30% of their guests are foreigners, I guess that's pretty typical for Japan. Secondly, they said shipping would be cash on delivery, and it definitely wouldn't arrive before the evening of the next day... Ctrip (Trip.com) was quite helpful and assisted with the communication. The hotel's reply was that they couldn't ship it that day and could only ship it the next day. I accepted everything else, but how can your efficiency be so slow that shipping a package is this complicated? Doesn't the hotel's Lawson (convenience store) offer shipping services? Sure enough, it was shipped the next day... and I received it in Tokyo in less than 48 hours, which made me laugh in exasperation. If your Japanese isn't good, I recommend having a friend who speaks Japanese handle it for you.

Excellent stay! Not sure why, but we were given a sea-view room, and the scenery was absolutely stunning with the good weather! However, the hotel is located on a hill, and there were no taxis when we arrived at night, so we had to walk. You can cut through the baseball field to get there.

The hotel is situated at a secluded corner of Wakayama prefecture. It is much preferable to drive here rather than relying on the infrequent hotel shuttle. Public transport is otherwise non existent. There are no restaurants around the hotel. However the hotel provides delicious meals with abundant fresh seafood. The in room dining experience is superb. The hotel staff service is impeccable. The room has a spectacular sea view allowing you to see the sunset on clear days. The onsen also faces the sea which provides a relaxing experience. A downside is that the hotel does not seem to sanitize the slippers for indoor use. All hotel guests had to change to their slippers to access their indoor facilities.

Our experience at Taoya NachiKasuura was just fantastic. The hotel is conveniently located pretty close to Katsuura Station (also bus stop). The waterfront property is nice. I believe all the rooms have water view thanks to their intentional design. The sunrise in the morning is NICE. Hotel has great amenities - baths and open air baths are clean and convenient; the two lounges offering free snacks and drinks (including beers, wines and sales) is a big extra! And the food selections at the dinner and breakfast buffets are wonderful.

The hotel facility is excellent and perfectly clean with a high-class traditional japanese service standard. Our room was a deluxe room with private hot spring tub. It's a little pricy while I think it's perfect to celebrate the anniversary with my wife. Dinner and breakfast were good, while it may not be the best comparing with other hotels in the major cities. The sightseeing points are also within 5-10 mins driving distance from the hotel. We expected to watch the sunset at the balcony, while on that day the weather was a bit cloudy so we didn't take a nice photo here.

Really loved it! The hot springs were so relaxing, and the breakfast spread was incredibly generous. The view from the window was lovely. On the second floor, there are lots of entertainment options, including massage chairs and a wide selection of manga to read. Just a heads-up: the hot spring pools switch between day and night, so make sure you don't go to the wrong one!

I don't usually write reviews, but I absolutely loved this hotel! Transportation is great; a bus ride from Shirahama Station to Shin-Yuzaki Station takes about 20 minutes. Although the hotel is on a small hill, it's only a two-minute walk, no effort at all. Across the street are the popular Seamore and Key Noodles restaurants, and Sakinoyu is just a short walk away. Because it's built on a hill, the sea view is absolutely stunning! I could see the beautiful Pacific Ocean from my bed every day. The room was also very spacious; for this price, the room with such a large ocean view is incredibly good value. The hotel itself has an onsen (hot spring bath) and provides complimentary yukata (light cotton robe), so I could enjoy a relaxing soak every night before bed. The room service also thoughtfully provided local specialty snacks daily. It was truly the most satisfying hotel of my Shirahama trip!

The hotel is quiet and private, with complete facilities and enthusiastic, professional staff. We came during the off-season, so the price was very reasonable. Since we had to catch the earliest JR to the airport the next day, which was around 6 AM, the staff enthusiastically and actively helped me arrange transportation. It was indeed very early, making it difficult to find a taxi, so in the end, the hotel's car took us to the JR station. It was a truly heartwarming experience during our trip. Thank you very much!

GGuest UserThis hotel definitely deserves a 5-star rating; it pretty much met all my expectations for this vacation. Make sure to book a sea-facing room! The rooms are quite spacious, and they offer futon-laying service. When you open the window, you're directly overlooking the sea. Be aware that some room types might have the parking lot obstructing the view, so it's not a completely unobstructed oceanfront view. The best part of the hotel is undoubtedly the hot springs, which span three or four levels. The lowest level is open-air, allowing you to experience soaking in the water while gazing out at the Pacific Ocean in the morning. The hot springs were absolutely the highlight of our trip, incredibly comfortable and relaxing, so much so that we spontaneously extended our stay by an extra night. The dinner included with the room booking was just okay, but breakfast was decent. There are several restaurants within a 10-minute walk, so you don't necessarily need to book dinner with your room. The facilities are comprehensive, including billiards, KTV, and a bar.

GGuest UserWe stayed in this lovely family hotel for a night, we opted for room stay with dinner and breakfast. There's no shops or restaurant near by, so highly suggest to choose the stay with meals option, otherwise there's cooking facility within the room also, so I think it's possible to cook your own meal if necessary. Location - the hotel is just round the corner of the famous Shirasaki Ocean Park, we even had a good view of the park from our room. There's parking space right in front of the hotel building, so it's very handy. We cycled to the Shirasaki Ocean Park then to the hotel, so it worked out perfect. There's a very steep slop going up to the hotel though, but it wasn't an issue for us as we pushed out bikes up. Facilities - this is a family run hotel which believes was built a while ago, so can't compare it to all those new built hotels. The ”room” we stayed is more like a mini flat, it has a big kitchen, good sized bathroom with changing area, a separate toilet, a living room, bedroom and an extra ”sitting” area. The entire flat is in traditional Japanese style which we loved, and it has all facilities that made our stay comfortable. It also has coined washing machine and driers. We could even access to rooftop on the 4th floor to view the sunset. If you're looking for a quiet place to have quality time, then this is a good place to do so. There's also ”public bath” within the hotel, it's small but wasn't an issue for us. There's also shower and bath in the room also if you want some privacy. Food - all food was cooked and prepared by the hotel owner, and she's a talented chef! Dinner was impressive, breakfast was standard. The hotel owner is very friendly and lovely, it's definitely ”the place” to stay if you're visiting the area. We highly recommend it.

GGalya_the_Pooh2It was way better than we expected according to the reviews. East wing indeed is the newest one: our room has all the facilities, it was spacious, clean and has fantastic view from the balcony. Meals were in traditional Japanese style, so might not be to everyone's liking, but we enjoyed all of them. I wasn't able to go to the onsen (as I have several big tattoes), but my husband liked an open one! Also, even though it is not listed in the hotel's description, but they do provide a parking if you come by your own car (as we did), which was very helpful, considering remoteness of location. All in all it was great experience, and not costly at all! Just one small remark: I do not eat meat and was concerned about parking, so I tried to contact the hotel in advance via Trip.com first and then their e-mail (listed on the web-site) to clarify those things... with zero success. I don't know if the reason was that I wrote in English and they barely speak it, but eventually I didn't get any response at all. Other than that really nothing to complain about!

GGuest UserEverything about this place was great! Shirahama is such a comfortable and relaxing destination, and the hotel was excellent too. I was personally very satisfied and have already recommended it to friends. They're quite interested and want to come back with me next time for a vacation. The convenience stores nearby are super handy, and there's a supermarket close by for some browsing too.

11102665161The hotel has a small house across from the fish market for guest registration, where you wait for a small boat to take you to the island. I'm not sure why no one informed us about this after booking on Trip.com. No emails, no texts, no in-app messages. After arriving in Kii Katsuura, we had to use Google Maps to figure out how to get to the island ourselves. We were directed to a very secluded pier, the closest one to the island, but the hotel's boat didn't even stop there. We had to call the front desk, and they directed us back to the fish market to find the registration office. I'm very sure that, even on the day of my check-in, there was no information on Trip.com about how to get to the island. The hotel itself is incredibly thoughtful. There's a hiking trail that takes about 15 minutes to reach a mountain observatory and a foot bath, for which towels are even provided. Both the male and female indoor and outdoor baths are excellent. We also tried the private bath at the cape, which was also great; all the baths are genuinely very close to the sea. The women's bath on the second floor even has a bath where you can lie down, and the outdoor rotemburo in the women's bath features a cave landscape, which is very unique. Dinner is a sukiyaki that you cook yourself, and the meat is good. Breakfast includes three small platters and a buffet, which is also very generous. At different times, there's free-flowing beer, plum wine, sake, and ice cream. The only minor drawback is that there are no vending machines in the hotel; if you want juice, you have to buy it from the first-floor shop before it closes. Overall, I highly recommend staying here because the hotel is simply outstandingly thoughtful.
