2. The courtyard is very new, but there's no unpleasant renovation smell. The heating is strong and plentiful, and hot water is readily available—essential in the dead of winter.
3. The housekeeper was incredibly kind. Knowing we booked an early morning tour, they were willing to get up at 5 AM to make breakfast. We were so grateful; breakfast normally starts at 7 AM.

GGuest UserMy stay at Boli Designer Homestay in Datong Ancient City completely redefined my expectations for high-end guesthouses, offering an immersive slow-paced experience within the ancient city.
The guesthouse is nestled in a tranquil alley on Guangfujiao Street. With its grey brick walls and natural wood doors and windows, stepping inside immediately transports you away from the hustle and bustle of the city outside. The wabi-sabi garden design is particularly striking, with dry landscape features dotted along the gravel paths. In the afternoon, sunlight streams through the eaves, creating elegant patterns of light and shadow.
Every detail in the room showed thoughtful consideration. The minimalist soft furnishings were both luxurious and comfortable, and the bedding was soft and gentle on the skin, allowing me to shed my travel fatigue the moment I lay down. The high-quality toiletries on the vanity were on par with those found in five-star hotels. Even the hairdryer's power and noise control were just right, ensuring a peaceful rest.
What truly impressed me was the guesthouse's service. The 24-hour butler was always on call, yet maintained a perfect sense of distance. Upon arrival, they proactively helped with luggage and offered tips for exploring the ancient city. They even arranged complimentary pick-up and drop-off services from the station, saving me the hassle of lugging suitcases around. The evening nightcap and hot soup were delightful surprises; on a chilly ancient city night, sipping warm soup instantly banished the cold.
Breakfast was another highlight. The sea cucumber and millet porridge was rich and savory, and the handmade shaomai had thin wrappers and generous fillings, offering an authentic taste of Datong. Paired with refreshing side dishes and freshly ground soy milk, it was the perfect start to an energetic day.
The guesthouse's location is also superb. Within a few minutes' walk, you can reach key attractions like Huayan Temple and Shanhua Temple, eliminating the need for crowded transportation and allowing for a leisurely and enjoyable exploration of the ancient city. Upon check-out, the butler even presented a thoughtfully prepared souvenir, a true testament to their sincerity.
This stay was absolutely perfect. I've already recommended Boli Designer Homestay to all my friends planning to visit Datong, and I'll definitely choose it again on my next visit to the ancient city! A special thank you to Butler Qiqi, who was incredibly patient and provided excellent service.

KKatrin SauthoffMy husband and I are a couple from Germany. We booked two nights there, and our decision was absolutely the right one. From the initial contact (via the WeChat app, which is essential for your entire trip to China) to our departure, everything was perfect. We were picked up from the train station by car and taken to the hotel free of charge. This is especially good for Western tourists who don't speak Chinese. The first problem would have been explaining to the taxi where we wanted to go. The lobby and rooms are very beautiful, stylish, and equipped with the highest technology. Most of the guest rooms face the inner courtyard, so you can sleep very quietly and comfortably. The beds are very large and comfortable. The hotel's location is excellent. It's located on the northern edge of the Ancient City of Datong, just a few minutes' walk from the tourist attractions and the colorful and lively old town. So you can enjoy it without being disturbed by noise. I would especially like to emphasize the friendliness of the staff. Unfortunately, we don't speak Chinese, and the staff didn't speak English, but with the help of modern communication tools (language apps), we understood each other perfectly. Every request was fulfilled. There's even the option to use a washing machine in the basement of the hotel. This is especially fantastic for tourists on longer trips to China, as it allows for easy laundry. If you ever come back to China, we will definitely book this hotel again.

GGuest UserI've wanted to stay here for a long time, and this family trip finally made that dream come true. The check-in experience was excellent, and the facilities showed incredible attention to detail. The complimentary toiletries pack even included electric toothbrushes and Gillette razors, and all the snacks provided were from Sam's Club. Breakfast was exceptional – an à la carte style where they'd prepare whatever you ordered. Everything tasted fantastic, and there were plenty of choices. Enjoying delicious pastries in the courtyard under the sun was a truly wonderful experience!
In the evening, friends came over, and we sat on the courtyard sofa, chatted, drank tea, and watched the clouds in the night sky. We even caught a drone show from Dai Wang Mansion, which was truly delightful! We also toured the owner's private museum and wine cellar. It certainly lives up to its reputation as a courtyard built with 200 million yuan; the main gate in the middle is 200 years old. Every detail exudes taste and grandeur!
The service was excellent too. Although there weren't many staff members, they were very responsive. When my shoes got wet in the heavy rain, they even brought a hairdryer to dry them for me – I was truly grateful! In short, the value for money at this price is unbeatable! Five-star recommendation! 👍👍👍👍👍
Overall, a fantastic stay, but I do have a few suggestions to offer:
1. Only the door could be opened for ventilation in the room; the windows didn't open. It would be great if there was a way to allow for cross-ventilation.
2. The hotel doesn't provide parking vouchers. While overnight parking was only 20 yuan, offering vouchers would enhance the guest experience.
3. Perhaps due to concerns about some guests occupying a room with too many people, I was repeatedly asked during check-in how many individuals were staying in our room, which I found a bit off-putting.

GGuest UserI discovered a treasure of a B&B hotel that opened this month~~ Pingchengfu is very close to various attractions. In two days, I went to Yungang Grottoes, Huayan Temple, Shanhua Temple, Datong Museum, Yingxian Wooden Pagoda, Jingtu Temple, and watched the sunset from the city wall, the intangible cultural heritage of iron flower, etc. Datong city construction is great! Overall, the accommodation experience was full, and I also ate at Kaige Restaurant and Longjuxiang recommended by locals. The overall travel experience was great! Thank you for the service of the B&B brothers and sisters, which is very good. The environment is quiet in the bustling city, and the decoration is antique. If I have the opportunity to come to Datong again next time, I will continue to book! Looking forward to seeing you next time

MMethilanI spent nearly a week at Datong Milan/Magnolia Hotel (Dai Residence branch) and it was a very pleasant and enjoyable stay
Location:
- Nestled a quieter part of the ancient city, that provided a peaceful retreat after each day of exploring.
- 10 minutes to some of the attractions of the old town
- 15-20 minute walk to the popular restaurants and more attractions
- 30 minute walk to Huayan Temple and its nearby street markets.
I'm always happy to walk but if needed, I could always use DiDi to take me around.
Falling asleep without street noise is something I like. There is a bit of building work going nearby, which is happening all over Datong Ancient City, but nothing too major.
Nearby is the Ancient City's wall, but walk past that and you can see the locals dance in the morning in the park or walk along the canal/moat in the evening.
Room:
The room was surprisingly spacious, offering plenty of room to spread out and relax, a welcome change from cramped city accommodations. The staircase is a bit narrow, so those with lots of big luggage might struggle (no lift)
Importantly, it was very clean and well equipped. I especially liked the Chinese tea ceremony set!
Service:
- Despite a noticeable language barrier, everyone went above and beyond with smiles, helpful gestures, and clear efforts to communicate.
- Especially the manager, who told me about local food to try, things to do and asked if I needed anything. She noticed that I was bringing back leftovers from the restaurant, and bottled drinks from the shops, and said I could use the fridge.
- I can't speak Chinese so when the delivery driver came to drop off my order, the staff will take it from the reception and bring it to me.
- Unfortunately, breakfast isn't available here
- Drinking water topped up. Humidifier and mosquito repellent were provided when needed.
I will not hesitate to book here again on my next visit and I highly recommend this hotel for anyone seeking comfort and genuine warmth in Datong!

The design style is designed by a Japanese designer and incorporates Chinese thangka art. The boss's collection of thangkas are all hand-painted by Regong, and each thangka is considered to be a high-quality product. Standing in front of thangka, I feel that the whole world has become quiet, and my soul seems to have returned. This is not only a place to stay, but also a good place for people to relax and find their spiritual self.
3 I have always believed that the meaning of travel is not only to see the scenery, but more importantly to experience life. In this B&B, I found such an experience. From the decoration design in the room to the layout of each thangka, every detail makes people feel warm and clean. If you are looking for a place to rest your soul, this is definitely your first choice.
This B&B left a deep impression on me. It not only has a beautiful environment, but also feels like home. You can explore the ancient city during the day and enjoy the warmth of home when you return to the B&B at night. In particular, the mattress and pillows were extremely comfortable and ensured a good night's sleep.
This is a B&B full of charm and peace of mind. From the moment you check in to the time you leave, every moment feels like you are in a Zen world. The people who drink in the lobby outside are still talking and singing and listening to music. The room is relatively humid, and people who don't sleep well are not recommended to live.
