Hotel El Palace Barcelona

Barcelona|0.32km from Espais Volart
We stayed 7 nights in this historic hotel and celebrated a special occasion during our trip. The hotel is truly beautiful & elegantly decorated, however the service levels were inconsistent and sorely disappointing for a hotel of this standard & price. Also, there was unfortunately no special factor that made this hotel memorable. Rooms - we booked a classic double room for 3 people & got upgraded to a deluxe room on a high floor. While I appreciated the upgrade and the room decor was beautiful, the bathroom (while spacious) was in visible need of refurbishment. The paint was badly peeling in certain parts, the closet doorknob came off on our third day, the glass shower door wouldn't close fully so the bathroom got wet during a shower. I'm not expecting a newly renovated room but for the price, the room should at least be in good working condition. Housekeeping - was very inconsistent and there was a severe lack of attention to detail. Some examples: - Upon check in, the room curtain was unhooked from the first hook and messily hanging - it took 3 days for housekeeping to finally notice & fix this. - For the entirety of our stay, all room amenities were provided for 2 (not 3) people despite us having booked & paid for 3 people. - Used wine glasses & water mugs were not washed for several days until we called housekeeping to do so. - On several days, I came back to my luggage having been moved haphazardly (I think they were trying to make up the extra bed) and not put back in its place. - Turn down service was done beautifully on some days and not at all on other days. Rooftop terrace - was a gorgeous place to dine, food was excellent and the service was lovely. We felt very welcome here and it was a real treat dining here! Definitely try the rooftop terrace at least once! Front desk, concierge and bellman were excellent. The concierge was helpful with dining recommendations and guest relations gave us a cake for the special occasion we were celebrating. The bellman was attentive to get us taxis & always greeted us with a smile. Breakfast - is definitely worth a try! The breakfast room is beautiful and the drawing room leading to it is so regal & gorgeous. Generous spread of food & service was warm as well. Amar - dined here & paid over 400 euros but it was a shockingly disappointing experience. The bread, starters, petit fours & decor were wonderful - but the 200 euros of seafood we ordered was not fresh at all and the service was disinterested & careless. We were abit shocked at how bad it was for a Michelin restaurant. Bluesman cocktail bar - did not try. There's a 50 euro per pax minimum spend but perhaps this could be waived for hotel guests who are already paying a lot for a room. Overall, we enjoyed our stay but felt greatly let down by the service standards at this otherwise lovely hotel. Unfortunately, I highly doubt I'd return here again but sincerely hope the hotel improves its service standards to match its elega

I gave this property three stars because I felt that it was somewhat misrepresented in the description and the pictures online. The rooms themselves are quite a bit more downscale than they appear/are described on TripAdvisor: admittedly very clean and quiet but more akin to a private student hostel room or a dormitory than an ”elegant” hotel room (e.g., low-end furniture, college dorm type built-ins, faded/cracked linoleum flooring, etc). The building itself, while interesting and historic, was also pretty shabby and outdated, the lift is hard to use, and the check-in process was a bit confusing (not well-signed and difficult to figure out what floor one is supposed to go to, etc). I also didn't care for the neighborhood - although it was central to many destinations and close to a metro stop, it also seemed very touristy and grubby with a lot of graffiti and noise. This hotel is squarely in the middle of the 2-star designation, IMO, and is relatively expensive for being of that type. I paid not much more for a truly outstanding elegant little Art Deco boutique 4-star in a similar historic building in Madrid during this same trip, and the difference was like night and day in terms of class and comfort and overall value. Honestly, I was quite disappointed overall and did not think this property was at all worth the price I paid. This would definitely not be my first choice of hotel if I were to return to Barcelona in the future.

What an absolutely fantastic place! Couldn’t ask for more for the price I paid. On arrival we were met by a lovely old building with a lot of character, reception were great and allowed us to leave our bags for the day until we were able to check in. The room was beautiful, clean, tidy, fresh sheets and towels with a fantastic feature on the ceiling which really highlighted the history of the building itself. The balcony which has two little built in seats was great to perch on or just to be able to get a bit of air in the morning. There was also a TV with Netflix in the room which was great for a chilled night in the evening. The shower inside the room and the sink was a great feature too, which provided a lot of ease when it came to getting ready. Only downside was no toilet within the room, it was just down the hall (not really an issue) BREAKFAST!! Lovely lovely lovely, fresh Spanish omelettes, meats, cheeses, bread, pastries, yoghurt, cereal and plenty of drinks options. A real highlight of the visit, all freshly made and prepared and really wasn’t expected due to the incredibly cheap price paid for the hostel itself. Every morning we left filled to the brim which set us up for the day ahead and the setting of the breakfast room was so peaceful and pleasant, with room to take a little siesta after eating. The drink facilities were also available throughout the day for a lovely afternoon drink stop. The staff were friendly and helpful and were available if you needed to ask questions. This place is a definite will visit again place, couldn’t of asked for more and so satisfied with my stay. Thank you for a great stay

The hotel is in a good location, close to the Gothic Quarter and next to the Arc de Triomphe in Barcelona. The hotel rooms are large, the facilities are new, the air conditioning is good, and the sound is low. Overall satisfaction

Wonderful location, fantastic hotel, chic and well appointed room, overall great experience, good breakfast and options and very friendly front desk staff. Only improvement required is the room service menu, the quality of the food and the speed of its arrival and accuracy… Other than that incredible boutique property very much recommended!

Casp Green House

Excellent location: From the area of Catalonia (Aerobus stop) 5 minutes to the place to receive the keys (all appearance passwords are sent on the e-mail the day before) and another 7 minutes to the guest house. Located on the 2nd floor in an old elevator house, even if the elevator is not working, to climb low. The room has everything you need: a refrigerator, a fan, a air conditioner, a small set of cosmetic appliances. In the common zone - microwave, teapot and tea bags, coffee, sugar. Towels change every day, bed linen - once every 3 days. The room in January was cool and slightly humid, but the blankets are warm, in the bath heat, hot water heats quickly. In room 6 the window is small, goes to the yard mine, but for winter it is normal. Wi-Fi is fast. There are lots of shops and bakeries nearby. It is easy to walk to everything - Sagrada, Gothic quarter, Nord motorway station, but also all transportation in 5-minute availability. If summarized - a good and simple option for positive.

An absolutely lovely place in the El Born area; I chose because of the location, the charm of the room/hotel, and that there was a balcony where I could enjoy my coffee and pastry in the morning, and wind down with a glass of wine at the end of the day... all while watching the world go by. The staff were so friendly and accommodating, enabling me to check in early with my bags. A perfect location to walk to sites, shopping, restaurants, etc. My room was small but I didn't need any more space. I would recommend and will stay again.
