Really nice stay with family. Good facilities, pools and outdoors. Food and drinks really good and a lot of variety. Staff excellent, really nice and available. The rooms starts showing need for modernisation.

The bathroom facilities are simple, and the deluxe double room has no door. It is inconvenient to dry clothes on the balcony, and the room is too small. The environment and service are good, three meals a day are all inclusive and taste good, and the parking is convenient.

Brilliant hotel lovely staff great food literally couldn’t fault it even gave us a free upgrade which was amazing. Amazing views of the beach buffet was great and the Italian restaurant even better. One of the best hotels we have stayed in. Perfect for chilling all day and then have entertainment and singers on of a night even in January which was great. Free bus into Funchal was also another great service

The Pestana Royal is by no means a 5*Hotel it's a 3 at best. The rooms could host a Poirot movie they are so tired. Well the whole Hotel could to be honest. Our room had no pattern on the carpet in places and the tiles in the bathroom were cracked. The shower was good and powerful. The girl that cleaned our room on the 10th floor worked really hard. The room was spotless. They have a lot of pigeons and kestrels in the grounds so the Hotel employs a Harris Hawk and handler. Not good when you are eating lunch in the garden and it catches a pigeon above you. The food wasn't wonderful. Everything was in a sauce or gravy. At lunch there were cooked meats to go with the salads but in the evening just cheese. We didn't go hungry. The Italian restaurant was really good we enjoyed that. The pool area wasn't that clean. The sun beds were dirty and most were broken. Very uncomfortable to lie on. The pool was cleaned at 10am while people wanted to use it. The staff were all lovely and very helpful. It was our anniversary and there was Sparkling wine and strawberry tarts in our room one day. A lovely touch. This Hotel has the potential to be great with a bit of TLC and investment. As I say the staff in every department were lovely.

We had a wonderful holiday at the Pestana Royal. The setting is idyllic with lovely swimming pools, well kept grounds full of palm trees and the ocean close by. All of the staff were friendly, helpful and professional throughout. There are plenty of excellent well maintained facilities for children and adults of all ages. We loved the buffet which provided a wide variety of great food for all meals. Although it's quite a large hotel, it never felt crowded or too noisy, and we never had to queue for anything. Our room was more spacious than we expected with a large balcony overlooking the pools and the ocean. The hotel also proved a good base for touring the island. The are frequent buses straight outside the hotel to reach the centre of Funchal in 20 minutes (Services 1 and 2) . However, if you plan to use buses to explore the island, it's a good idea to buy a map of routes and timetables before arriving, and bear in mind that some of the 'interurban' services take the old, slow coastal roads.

Stayed here early May, lovely hotel very clean champagne 🍾 and cake 🎂 brought to room on my special birthday. Lovely pool, lovely food, friendly staff especially bar staff especially young girl on bar at night ( sorry I've forgotten her name) beautiful island will be back

Very large, beautiful, modern hotel. We’re here as part of a tour and a superb breakfast buffet is included for us tourists. Beautiful pool area, well appointed rooms, but most have shower/bath combos which might be a challenge for seniors. Fitness center is worn in my opinion with limited equipment. Our room had AC, but the thermostat did not allow for adjustment. ****** only steps away.

Had a fantastic break in this all inclusive hotel. Great location. 1 hour walk via sea promenade to city centre or 40 mins via the road. Or just €2 on the local bus. Fantastic large, but dated room on 8th floor with lovely sea view. Range of English radio and music channels on the tv. Great range of food and drinks, really enjoyed the Italian a la carte. Fantastic friendly staff. Immaculately cleaned room and grounds. Handy lift to the beach, supermarket across the road. Variety of nationalities of guests was a bonus. Would certainly return.

High quality all inclusive with good food selection and very good drinks package. Can recommend the rose wine which you can help yourself to! We visited the on site Italian and the garden/grill restaurants and had great meals there too which was all part of the package. Good location if you are mobile - a one hour walk into Funchal centre which is worth the effort. Very comfortable stay with friendly staff who are keen to look after you. Comfortable beds too. Quiet at night which is important to me! Lovely pool area with swim up pool bar. Plenty of space so no fights for a sunbed. One afternoon the pool turns into a foam party - a fun time had by all! Knowledgable reception team who can advise on trips and car hire - both worth doing. I can highly recommend.
