The Kauai Inn hotel refused to honor my reservation unless I allowed them to photograph my ID and upload it to a third-party company in the cloud, to be saved indefinitely. They didn't know if the images were encrypted, and they have no privacy policy. I called the company they send the images to, and they also don't have any privacy policy for these images, and they suggested they, too, send the images to yet another company, and they didn't know if the images were encrypted there either. I offered to let the hotel redact the most sensitive details, but they refused. They also didn't make a conventional paper copy. They refused to refund me. I waited for management to contact me, but the call never came. So, I had to book another hotel last minute at a higher cost. Luckily my credit card company appears to have my back.
