This hotel far exceeded my expectations. That day, I traveled all the way from Wakkanai after visiting Cape Soya, then flew from Chitose Airport to Osaka, and finally arrived in Kyoto. I was incredibly exhausted, both mentally and physically. Beyond the usual tea bags and shower gel found in Japanese hotels, this place offered premium amenities like bath salts. But the best part was that this hotel has a 'power on' system for the room key! This meant I could leave the room with my card, and the electricity wouldn't shut off! You could also tell the local environment was pretty good; the birds on the street weren't afraid of people at all. They'd walk right next to the sidewalk, and wouldn't fly away even when people passed by.

Convenient location with great amenities, and the off-season price of just over 300 was an absolute steal. It's super easy to get to Kamo River and Kiyomizu-dera Temple, and the train connections are excellent. There's a drugstore and several convenience stores right across the street.

The location is super convenient, within walking distance to Gion, Kamo River, and Nishiki Market. The nearby Takashimaya and several shopping streets are great for browsing. On B1, there's a free water dispenser, coffee machine, microwave, ice maker, laundry and drying facilities, and a smoking room. The service attitude is excellent! You can buy Kyoto one-day bus passes at the front desk. The room is a tatami style, with good soundproofing and a decent amount of space.

Even though I booked for two people, at check-in (online check-in), it showed three people. I couldn't proceed without entering information for all three, which prevented me from checking in. I tried to contact them, but since it was after 10 PM, the call didn't go through. When I called again, someone from Tsukimi Hotel answered (I heard it's in front of this hotel and part of the same group). They were incredibly kind, explaining how I might be able to reach the right person by phone and even inviting me to come to Tsukimi Hotel if I couldn't get through. So I went over there, and they called this hotel's customer service for me. However, the customer service representative implied it was my fault because I had supposedly booked for three people.
My friend also separately booked a room for one person at this hotel but was charged for two (perhaps they count by the number of beds in the room?), and they believe they paid extra accommodation tax as a result.
I am extremely grateful to the staff at Tsukimi Hotel for helping me so late at night and for mediating so kindly, even though they probably didn't fully understand my situation. However, whether it's a system issue or not, I'm genuinely disappointed that I couldn't check in without entering information for three people when I had booked for two, and that I was told it was my fault for supposedly booking for three.
I hope the hotel reviews its system and makes improvements so that others don't experience the same issues as I did.

The hotel's location is excellent, just a hundred meters from five subway exits. It's super convenient to get to Kiyomizu-dera Temple and Sannenzaka/Ninenzaka, and Kamo River is right outside the door for a stroll. The room was quite spacious, with a corner sofa and a separate toilet and shower. When I stayed, it seemed like the hotel was fully booked with many guests, but the service remained very organized. Especially at breakfast, there was hardly any waiting, and if I needed anything, the front desk was quick to assist.

The Gate Hotel Kyoto Takasegawa
I stayed at The Gate Hotel Kyoto Takasegawa and had a mixed experience.
The hotel’s design is excellent — modern, tasteful, and thoughtfully executed — and the location is near perfect for exploring Kyoto. One clear highlight was the outdoor courtyard seating: calm, beautifully lit in the evenings, and a genuinely lovely place to unwind after a day out.
(Photo attached shows the courtyard, which really captures the atmosphere.)
However, the service fell short of expectations. Our breakfast order was forgotten and only addressed after more than 20 minutes. On another occasion, the concierge provided incorrect directions on where to call for an Uber, which led to unnecessary confusion and delay. This reflected a lack of attentiveness and local familiarity that one would not expect from a hotel of this standard.
Overall, the hotel excels in design, atmosphere, and location, and clearly has all the ingredients for a very strong stay. That said, service consistency and staff training need improvement to match the quality of the physical space. With better attention to these fundamentals, the hotel could truly live up to the high bar set by its beautifully designed environment.

This is a very nice hotel with various breakfast and a traditional Japanese vibe. I appreciate its location, which is close to a supermarket, a museum, and a shopping area. My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed the onsen facilities after exploring the city. I hope to return to Kyoto in the future.

I’m from Thailand and have been familiar with ASAI for some time. When I discovered a location in Kyoto, the city that I wanted to revisit after 10 years, I didn’t hesitate to book my stay. I’m glad I made that choice. The service was exceptional, and some of the staff were even fluent in Thai. The amenities in my room were excellent and very useful. The room was spacious enough for a solo traveller, especially since I had a double room.
Breakfast was served as a set meal, where you could choose one option from the menu, but that was perfectly fine. The location is strategic, as it is near bus stops and train stations, allowing you to select your preferred mode of transportation. However, keep in mind that some guests may have a longer walk from the station, depending on where you disembark.
It's a shame I only spent 2 nights here because I was also staying with my friend at her place. Next time, I will definitely come back to stay here longer! 🙂

Facilities: Comprehensive. I particularly liked the high-quality shower head, which even had controls available in Chinese.
Cleanliness: Excellent. Guests could help themselves to complimentary toiletries from the first floor.
Location: Superb. It's very close to Takashimaya Department Store and within easy reach of popular attractions like Kamo River, Yasaka Shrine, and Kiyomizu-dera Temple.
Service: Great. The 24-hour front desk was a lifesaver; despite my flight being delayed and arriving extremely late, they were incredibly accommodating and processed my check-in smoothly.
A heads-up: Please note that all hotels in Kyoto charge a city tax.

GGuest UserThis hotel boasts a quiet location, tucked away on a peaceful lane, yet it's only about a 10-minute walk to the bustling city center and many attractions, which I really appreciated. The staff were friendly and polite, and the room hygiene met standards. The hot spring was uncrowded and clean, both inside and out. The only thing that wasn't ideal was the hotel restaurant. I had dinner there once, the tempura set, and it was all tempura, which was quite greasy. The combination of dishes wasn't very healthy or refined. Other than that, I was very satisfied and would choose to stay here again on my next trip to Kyoto.
Llucky333This was the second hotel on our Japan trip, and it was excellent!
The hotel is located directly across from Kyoto Station's Hachijo Exit. Since we had a JR Pass, staying near the station made getting around much easier.
**Facilities:** It's a self-check-in hotel. We paid the accommodation tax first. Next to the self-service machine, there were toiletries that you could take as needed. Although the room was small, it had everything you could want: a refrigerator, humidifier, TV, bathtub, and smart toilet. The room heating was strong, but you could adjust the temperature if it felt too stuffy.
**Cleanliness:** It was clean. We stayed for three nights and didn't request housekeeping. They provided pajamas, and they were really nice! It's a shame that there's a shipping fee if you buy them from the official website. It would be great if the hotel front desk sold new ones.
**Environment:** There's a 7-Eleven on the ground floor of the hotel. Guests can enter directly from the side of the lobby, and when returning, you can swipe your room card at the 7-Eleven to enter the lobby. This is great in cold weather as you don't need to go outside to visit the convenience store for food. The surrounding area has many shopping options, including Don Quijote, Aeon Mall, drugstores, and various eateries. There's even more inside the station! Isetan, Porta, Takashimaya. If you exit towards the Kyoto Theater, you can see Kyoto Tower. There's also a sightseeing bus to Kiyomizu-dera Temple, and you can just use your Suica card. You can even walk to Yodobashi Camera.
**Service:** The hotel staff were respectful and polite to guests. You can store your luggage after checking out. Our luggage was sent from our previous hotel, but if you want to send luggage to your next hotel, you have to arrange the courier yourself.
It's very convenient to take the Shinkansen from Kyoto Station to Tokyo!
This hotel is highly recommended, and I would definitely choose to stay here again on my next visit to Kyoto!
JJiaoluodedunjueThe location is excellent, right opposite Kyoto Station, very close to the airport bus stop, and also near Aeon Mall. There's a 7-Eleven supermarket just down the street.
Check-in is self-service on a machine, which can be switched to Chinese, and staff are on hand to assist. You pay for the accommodation on-site.
The lobby offers self-service coffee, tea bags, toothbrushes, and more. There's also a microwave, with chopsticks, spoons, forks, etc., conveniently located next to it – very well-equipped.
The family room size is good, and the facilities are complete. The only downside is that it gets very dry in the winter, and the humidifier isn't adjustable.
Overall, it's still very good. Highly recommended!
IiamnotdelicateThe basic room type isn't in the main building; you have to walk up to the main building each time to have breakfast or soak in the onsen (hot spring). And it's not a real onsen; my friend's superior room was the real onsen. We were given a small room at the back of the hotel, but thankfully there weren't too many graves.
When I asked the staff at the entrance to take photos for me, they were very reluctant and had a sour face. At night, on my way back to my room from my friend's, the receptionist on duty in the lobby was also very rude. Overall, I was dissatisfied with the service.
The facilities are excellent, very new, and the hotel is quite small, but that's typical for Japanese hotels. The decor is also very nice; the aesthetics are on point.
There are at least three cemeteries and a bunch of shrines nearby; bring some amulets if you like.
MMaemeehI had a wonderful stay at this hotel! The location is absolutely perfect — right in the heart of Kyoto city. It’s just a short walk to both the train and bus stations, which made getting around super convenient. Plus, it’s very close to major shopping malls Takashimaya where you can buy Marukyu koyamaen matcha. The hotel itself was clean, comfortable, and the staff were very friendly. They also have a washing machine and dryer available, which is really convenient for longer stays. However, there’s only one of each, so if it gets busy, you might need to wait your turn. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Kyoto! They also has nearby Izakaya that the owner was so kind and foreigner friendly welcome.
XXiaobaituaimiI've stayed at Tokyu hotels a few times before and generally found them acceptable, but this particular Tokyu Hotel has a terrible location. Transportation is incredibly inconvenient, and there isn't even a bus stop nearby. It's at least a 10-minute walk to the nearest subway station. The shuttle bus to Kyoto Station only runs every 30 minutes, so you still end up waiting a long time.
The 3300 yen breakfast was also incredibly basic, worse than what you'd get for 1800 yen at a standard business hotel.
The worst part was the room temperature on cold winter nights. I woke up freezing in the middle of the first night and ended up catching a cold with a runny nose. What's more, the air conditioning panel only allowed for adjusting the fan speed, not the temperature.
The hotel was also undergoing renovations during my stay, so I spent the entire second day out and about. Taxis in Kyoto are quite expensive; a 2-kilometer ride from Kawaramachi back to the hotel cost 1600 yen. It would definitely be more convenient to stay near Kyoto Station.
GGuest UserTo start with the positives, the hotel was well located and easily accessible using the metro from Kyoto station. The room was a decent enough size and the staff were friendly and helpful.
One major issue we encountered during our stay was the level of humidity in the room. The extractor fan didn't seem to be doing anything to impact moisture in the room, particularly after a warm shower. There was some treated glass above the sink and often this was the only area without moisture well over half an hour after having a shower. (Photos attached) This also meant that towels weren't drying correctly and created an unpleasant environment and ultimately odour in the room. The humidity was so high that the windows were dripping with water consistently and the window sill was actually wet. Additionally the absence of a full wardrobe (just a rail with hangers on) also created challenges when staying for longer than a couple of days and this combined with the humidity made the washing machine almost obsolete.
GGuest UserThe room was quite spacious, about 20 square meters, so there was plenty of space to lay out luggage without any worries. The bathroom was also a good size with a separate wet and dry area. However, I didn't use the shower there as I went to the large public bath on the 9th floor instead. Soaking in it was a great way to relieve the fatigue of a day of travel. The hotel is conveniently located right next to a bus stop, offering easy access to places like the National Museum, Ichiran Ramen (Shijo branch), and Shinshindo Bakery (Shijo branch).
AAnonymous UserThe biggest drawback was the size of the room for the price we paid. We could not even open our suitcases on the floor. There is no water in your room, you have to go downstairs to have a drink of water.
Do not have breakfast there, it's too expensive (if you cannot eat everything) . There is a supermarket (LIFE) a few meters away with a very nice bakery.
The hotel do however have all the toiletries available next to reception counter. Also coffee in the mornings from 6.30am with water and juice. A sauna and a hot pool, but you have to be in your *************. Not suitable for everyone.
I enjoyed our bathroom the most, as the shower was amazing.
JJulianvaThe location is very good near Kyoto Station. The hotel is small but modern and clean.
They made me wait two hours to check in, but that's the rules; I already knew beforehand. They also allowed me to leave my bags while I went to lunch and waited to enter.
The room is small, but like all in Japan, it's a standard room that meets everything you need for a good stay. It's clean, modern, and tidy. For one person, that's fine; for two people with large suitcases, the space is very tight.
For the price, location, and facilities, the hotel is highly recommended.
