We have just returned from a week at Roda Beach resort as a family of 3 with a 12 year old. The hotel has many positive points but is let down in some areas and these really need to be addressed by the management. I’ve given 4 stars but 3 and a half would have been a fairer score of the place if that was possible. Firstly, the hotel is in a beautiful location, the views from the beach and the sunset at night are stunning. The grounds are kept pristine and the hotel is spotless, staff work tirelessly to keep it that way. The rooms are quite dated and the beds are not the most comfortable but we managed to slept fine and rooms were cleaned every day with towels and bedding changed too. We couldn’t fault the food in the hotel. In the main restaurant, there was always lots of variety and cooked to a high standard, the salad bar was fantastic! The problem was the constant queuing, I have never queued so much in a hotel and it’s just so frustrating. I think it’s probably down to the layout of the buffet areas, everything is along one stretch, other than desserts and salads, it just doesn’t work. We were able to work out the less busy times and just changed when we ate to avoid slightly. We ate in the Italian a la carte restaurant one night and it was really good, service was fabulous and it’s set on the seafront with all tables outside, which was lovely. There are lots of little snack bars too which were all really good, although again, always long queues. Evening Entertainment was mediocre - to be fair to the team, they did there absolute best but didn’t yet have the full team for the season, so it was difficult to put on a decent show. There were some outside entertainers brought in and the singers at the beach bar were fantastic but there is nowhere near enough seating down there for the size of the hotel. The worst part of this hotel and my biggest issue was the drinks. This is a 4 star all inclusive and the alcoholic drinks are appauling.. they use the cheapest spirits with very low alcohol or watered down, I’m not sure which. If you ask for a branded drink, they will charge you €7. I just don’t think this is acceptable, you are either all inclusive or you’re not, if people are paying all inclusive prices, then they should be able to get a decent alcoholic drink. I am not someone who abuses the bar but if I am having a couple of drinks at night, then I want them to taste of what I’ve asked for.. the vodka was not vodka, it was labelled as ‘cocktail mixer’. Besides this point, the bars are very short staffed and the queues are absolutely ridiculous all night, to the point where we stopped even bothering with the bar (which is probs my what the management want). All in all, the location and the hotel is beautiful, food is spot on, queues, drinks and bar service dreadful and really need to be addressed.
