La Nesquiere B&B is a wonderful place to use as a base for Avignon and the Vaucluse and Lavender region. You do have to allocate some extra drive time to reach some of the popular spots. La Nesquiere is a charming old house with many thoughtful details and great gardens. We were there when the lilacs were in bloom, and it was gorgeous. The Nesque stream runs though the property and guests can lounge on the deck next to the stream to have a snack, read or just enjoy the sound of the water. Isabella is welcoming and warm. The “welcome” meal that we ordered for our arrival hit the spot perfectly, it was all delicious, and eating it by the stream really made us feel like we had arrived in Provence for real. She sets a beautiful breakfast table and is very knowledgeable about the area. One can take everything she recommends seriously. There are several nice restaurants in Pernes Les Fontaines, our favorite was one recommended by Isabella, L’Estanquet. Our room, Enguerrand, was on the third floor. It was quiet, comfortable and spacious, much bigger than a hotel room. In spite of the age of the house, the bathroom is new and modern and has the best mirrors for make-up that I’ve ever had outside my home. I usually don’t give 5-star reviews unless hotels have a well-lit make-up mirror. Isabella set a new standard. The bed was big and comfortable. We could have cooked in the room if we wanted to, especially with Isabella’s local market recommendation.
