Situated adjacent to the stave church, Midtnes Hotel is an eclectic mix of styles where you can step back in time. We were greeted by the friendly and informative owner in the main building. The bedrooms are situated at the back in a 1960s block and are basic with dated bathroom, but clean and functional. I absolutely loved the balcony which gave stunning views across the fjord and Balestrand. Breakfast was downstairs in the dining room and was plentiful and pleasant, but is the only meal served on site. Midtnes is quirky and a bit dated, but I loved it and would definitely stay here again.

Balestrand is a small town with a lot of charm but some dated lodging. I stayed at Midtnes for two nights while traveling around the fjords and it was a good, affordable, clean option for me as a solo traveler. I had a room facing the fjord and I spent almost all of my time at the room on that patio. It was totally worth it and comfortable to sit outside in late May. The hotel has a lot of charm but it is very dated. The decor on the first floor (from taxidermy to sitting areas) are very cute and give a look back at the hotel and its history. The breakfast is very good and replenished. Some times aren't served on a hotplate or warmer though so eggs, etc. can be cold. But edible and well prepared. The wifi is also VERY good at the hotel. I was very surprised and had no issues. The rooms are dated, I doubt that will be a shock. But beds are comfortable, the furniture is clean and it doesn't look too shabby. Just like a throwback to another time. Elevator works well too and is a good size. My main issue is that the walls are PAPER thin. I could literally hear people's conversations in the room next door. That's probably to be expected given the age of the place but it was also very offputting. Location is good to the ferry and around town. Honestly had no real noise issues or issues with other guests being loud (outside of what you can over hear). I think I would stay again and I would recommend it as a budget accommodation.

Lovely hotel with lots of history, photos, artwork. Gracious owner/host. Many common areas to relax and take in views of the fjord. We stayed in the section that was added in the 1960s or 1970s, with a balcony with chairs and small table overlooking the fjord. Very clean and spacious room. Bathroom was a bit small but had a nice heated floor that dried up the water from shower (this room didn’t have shower walls so some water sprayed a little from under shower curtain.) It was quite warm (74 degrees F) and sunny while we were there so we left the balcony door open with the curtain pulled over the doorway, which kept us cooler. Comfortable bed that didn’t sag and was firm but not hard. Very nice variety of meats, cheeses, breads, yogurt, fruit and eggs for breakfast. Prices for beer and local hard cider available at the hotel desk were quite reasonable.

The best cozy decorated place in my trip this time. Impressive Nice warm and precious interiør in all rooms at the first floor of hotell. Enjoyable to take a lot of photos in there. And when up to my room at the top 4th floor of the hotel. IT is so fantastic ocean view form my Terrace. And again the big Cruiseship come and park in front of the hotel again What a wonderful experience for me.

Charming The hotel has an older portion full of sitting rooms filled with historical decor from the original purpose which was a hospital. Added to the items are several pianos, plants, items from nature and more. A beautiful porch looking out onto the water, a dock from which one can take a refreshing dip. Very kind staff. Our room was basic, two twin beds. No AC but a cool breeze was lovely.

When you first approach the hotel sitting on the top of a hill, you think what a cute and quaint building. That is only where the reception and breakfast is. The rest of the rooms are in a building beside that was decorated in the 70's and is very basic. No TV and the bathrooms are tiny. This hotel was booked for us by our travel agent so we weren't sure what we were getting. We had to change rooms because the bathroom was too small. The beds were reasonably comfortable but it was the view from the tiny balcony we had looking out over the fjord that was the best part. The breakfast was good and the location of the hotel was really it's best feature. The gentleman at the front desk was friendly and helpful whenever we had any questions. They do offer free coffee/tea in reception, but we were unable to use it one night because there wasn't any hot water to make tea.

This was a nononsense Hotel. The rooms are not in the pretty building that you see in the photos but in an Annexe which is very plain and practical, the room we had was spacious, with a balcony with a view across the fiord and to the pretty town church below. The receptionist was not friendly or warm but he did what was required and was kind to give us a coffee on the deck in the morning as we were up early and breakfast was not yet served. Breakfast at 6.30 am, we were there on a weekday enabled us to catch the 8am ferry from Dragsvik. There is complimentary tea and coffee available at the reception but it runs out fast and is not replinished often. Olden has plenty of resturants so getting dinner was not a problem. Breakfast was wonderful. Hot and cold items, the smoked salmon we had here was the best fromour 12 day trip.

The breakfast was included in the price and the hotel promised to serve it at 7.15 for those who take the morning ferry to Bergen, which leaves 7.50. There was no breakfast in the morning. The man came so late that that there was nothing ready 7.35 and no time wait any more. As for hotel. The hotel had thin walls. The view to the fjord was the best thing of the place. The man in reception was kind and helpful but nevertheless the service was not what was promised. I left Balestrand angry and hungry.
