"This was one of the low key place where it is located after crossing Nara train station. Convenient. Staff was welcoming, allow to leave luggage before check in time. The whole hotel has tatami flooring, you need to go to locker leave your shoes in there, throughout the stay. In the room they gave you a bag, socks to wear around hotel and towels to use in public onsen. It was a great experience and dipping in hot pool after long day walk. Most families guests, and they allow older kids accompanied with parent of same gender. But those parent don't know how to control kids should respect the other guests. I have kid myself and try to be respectful. Since after onsen they wan to give cooling down so they have free flow ice cream afternoon to night. And probiotic drink morning. They have a massage chair and if it is peak season proly all these will be in queue. But I went on weekday and end of May so it was quite nice. Not too busy. I didnt pick hotel breakfast as I always wake up late lol. Oh and supper 9pm or 930pm onward they provide ramen and it was real nice after a long day and after onsen, hearty hot ramen soup and green tea to end the night. The experience they provide part of the stay is really fantastic!"

Both breakfast and dinner were amazing. We also informed the Ryokan that this was our 6th anniversary trip and they gave us free photography, which was lovely! It's also not far from Nara Park, Todai-ji Temple, and Kasuga Taisha Shrine; you just need to walk through the shopping street to get there. "Enjoyed the change in environment in Nara and really appreciated the large room which is a huge contrast over the tiny rooms you get in bigger cities. Really appreciated the Japanese bathroom with bathtub. The toilet is also behind a separate door and the sink is outside. Don’t expect much service from the hotel staff though as their selling point is the holographic robot dinosaur who checks you in."

"One of the best hotels I’ve stayed at in Asia as a solo traveller for 2 years, the amenities and value for money were exceptional, huge rooms by japans standards. Only issue is the location, if you don’t have a car it’s a walk for everything, even the closest konbini is 10-12 minute walk, which isn’t end of the world but it’s not as convenient as used to with Japan. The roads surrounding are not really made for walkingeither, it’s dual carriageways. And getting to the central tourist zone of Nara is a pain, 15 mins to closest bus stop. My train out of Nara was also a 25 minute walk with heavy bags. If the location was better it really would be 10/10."

"Right next to Nara Station and Kintetsu Nara Station, this hotel boasts a convenient location and excellent value for money. The room is typical of a Japanese business hotel – perfectly fine for a stay. The surrounding area is incredibly convenient for dining, drinking, and shopping. Overall, I was very satisfied with my stay."
We stayed at the hotel for one night and regretted not staying for two.
The journey from the station was an hour-long bus ride along winding roads, so if you're traveling with a child, pack a bag beforehand, as it can cause motion sickness. From the bus stop to the hotel, it's a 10-15-minute walk (at a leisurely pace). You'll see your name on the sign at the entrance. The hotel is modern, but it creaks when you walk, which is actually a plus. The room is traditionally furnished with two rooms, and they offer complimentary tea. There are plenty of closets, though I couldn't figure out how to turn off one light.
I also recommend booking the room with a traditional Japanese dinner and breakfast. Everything is delicious and fresh.
There's a small local brewery next to the hotel, which is a nice place to stop in after the onsen in a yukata.
Our challenge was with the language .. fortunately the hotel has staffs that speaks English and/or Mandarin. They became our translators and guided us the way to go about the area especially with the public transport and Mt Shigi. Very friendly and courteous staffs, a true experience of the Japanese culture and tradition. Our gratitude to Shigisan Kanko Hotel staffs 🙏.👍..
