Romantic Hotels in Okinawa Prefecture, Japan

The room itself was quite small; it was hard to move around once we opened two 20-inch suitcases. So, it's best suited for those traveling light or not planning much shopping. If you have a lot of luggage or plan to shop extensively, there might not be enough space in the room. On a side note, I specifically uploaded some videos of the hotel's surroundings, and you can see there are two convenience stores nearby. It's a bit of a walk to the light rail station, though.

Overall speaking, this hotel is value for money if choosing to stay in Onna Village. The ocean view is spectacular. We enjoyed it so much especially on the last day of our trip. We eventually had the blue sky and white clouds. The room is very spacious with a nice balcony! That's most precious for our holiday. Since it was early Nov, the outdoor pool was closed. We used the indoor pool which comes with a outdoor jacuzzi. That's so lovely. Regrettably, the indoor pool was not available to use until after 9:00am in the morning, that was so inconvenient for hotel guests. We normally can't swim after having a nice breakfast. There is an airport limousine at the main entrance of the hotel, that is very convenient for us because the hotel is located on the hill slope. We did not drive. So, we chose to book the limousine bus at the hotel concierge to save us time and energy to walk downhill to take the city bus after we checked out. Although it cost 5000 yens for the BBQ dinner, the variety of food is good. So, we were quite happy with the money spent on it. The breakfast buffet also provided a good selection of food especially a good selection of cooked food with local veggies as ingredients. It was worth spending HK$140 for each of us.

I took bus 143 from Naha Bus Terminal to the American Village (it was the last stop for this bus, not sure where the actual last stop is) and walked for about 10 minutes to reach the hotel. Since it was before check-in time, I waited in the lobby, where complimentary drinks and cookies were available. The front desk staff were very enthusiastic and helped us store our luggage first; the service was excellent. After checking in, we were given an upgraded room, much larger than what we had booked, which was fantastic! American Village at night is beautiful and definitely worth staying for a night.

I have no idea why this hotel is so popular. I stayed during the off-season and paid 2,000, which is double the price of the Intercontinental next door. They gave me a room right by the basement parking entrance, and cars kept coming out, making it incredibly noisy! After complaining to Trip.com, I was moved to the 10th floor. Even though it was typhoon season and the occupancy rate wasn't high, they still gave me a terrible room. If it were peak season and first-come, first-served, and I got a bad room, I might not mind so much. The front desk staff had a stern face and was cracking their knuckles right in front of us, making loud popping sounds with their fists – like they wanted to pick a fight! The small room had three beds crammed in, making it very cramped. We were two adults and a 6-year-old child, and we booked a double room. I don't know why they gave us a triple-bedded room without discussing it. The hotel doesn't even separate pedestrians from vehicles. Although the sea view from the 10th floor was decent after we moved, there were parking spaces directly below, so it's definitely not worth the price… The hotel's lawn and public areas were messy, and the pool was just mediocre. The lobby, however, was quite grand, and breakfast was acceptable! The old church wasn't particularly photogenic either. If you have a car, there's absolutely no need to stay here; there are far better options. The beach isn't as good as other 5-star hotels either! There are plenty of dining options nearby, which might be why it's popular, possibly due to direct bus access. On checkout day, I saw many tourists with luggage waiting for transport at the main entrance. If it's more expensive than other 5-star hotels, there's no reason to choose it. I stayed at three hotels, and this was the worst…

The location was fantastic with a gorgeous sea view! Free parking, spacious room with amenities duly provided (except they didn’t provide any bottled water which kinda upset me a lot!!), breakfast was of quality - really loved the breakfast, convenience store downstairs (though it was severely wiped out and not well stocked everyday). It’s a good location to explore up north (aquarium and the likes). Highly recommend

Large hotel with spacious rooms, though a bit dated but clean and well maintained. Nice beach and great sea views from the rooms. But there are many limitations, especially for foreign tourists and those without a car. First of all, this place is rather remote, though not very far from Naha city but getting there will take about 2 hours on the Airport Hotel limousine bus , fare is ¥1430 per person, and there are not many services per day, if you miss the bus, you have to walk 30 minutes to Yomitan village to take the public bus, which takes more than 2 hours to Naha, or pay through your nose with taxi which costs more than ¥12,000. Almost none of the staff are able to converse in English effectively, reception staff will need to translate with an I pad and show the translation to customers. Being a large international resort hotel , they are extremely strict with the check in time, our limo bus arrived at about 1.30pm , when we asked to be checked in ,the reception staff said ok, but she told me ”early in 3000”, which I couldn't understand initially, she later showed me on her I pad , which displayed ” early check in fee ¥3000 for 1 hour”, there is no way to get a check in on arrival without paying a fee if you arrive early, even when the rooms are ready- which is unthinkable for anywhere else in the world ! It appeared that all guests arriving early decided to wait in the lobby till 3pm. Guests were not even offered any welcome drink, which was unthinkable for a resort hotel. Each room here cost more than ¥30,000 per night . Many other cons , which are rather unacceptable for foreign tourists- All the TV channels are in Japanese. Rather far away from any eating places , and not many choices. In rooms - the aircond cannot be set lower than 22 degree C , there is no shower cap and spoon provided.

The hotel’s ground floor feels like an art gallery — modern, minimalist, and thoughtfully designed. The concierge, café, and laundry area are all located on the second floor, where you’ll also find a display space showcasing artwork and merchandise by local artists, adding a charming creative touch. Our room was clean and cozy, though slightly compact. We had to rearrange some furniture to open our luggage comfortably. The balcony was a highlight, offering a refreshing sea view and enhancing the overall relaxing, breezy atmosphere of the hotel. Breakfast was enjoyable with a decent variety of options, and the quality was satisfying. While the immediate surroundings are relatively quiet, it’s within walking distance to restaurants, AEON mart, and the popular Kokusai Dori Street, making it a good base for exploring the area.

The facility is quite old and not well maintained. My biggest concern was the visible mold on the ceiling and around the AC units in the room. Breathing in mold can be harmful, and it's concerning not knowing how serious it might be. While towels were replaced, there was no bed-making service during the stay, which was disappointing. One of the main reasons to stay in a hotel is to receive basic room service—at the very least, the bed should be made. That said, the location is excellent with a beautiful view of the ocean, and the staff were very kind and helpful.

I stayed at Southern Beach Hotel & Resort Okinawa from Oct 28–31, 2025, the hotel itself is fine, the pool is ok and the beach nearby is lovely. But I had a terrible experience with their front desk service. The night before check-out, I personally confirmed with their staff that the standard check-out time was 11:00 a.m. I politely asked if I could check out one hour later at 12:00 noon. The local Japanese staff decline it and I am all good with that and ready to get back to my room, a foreign staff member at the counter step in said “That’s fine, how many hours you need?” I relied on that confirmation say one hour is good enough for me — but when I checked out, the front desk charged me 3,300 yen for being one hour late. Even after I explained what happened, their staff were unlikely to listen and repeating their hotel policy very impatiently. I later send out a email to their leadership to escalate and received and receive the feedback from their manager denying everything, even though it was clearly a miscommunication among their own staff. It’s shocking that a so-called “resort” treats guests this way. Fortunately, Trip.com reviewed my complaint and refunded me in Trip Coins, but the hotel itself never admitted their mistake nor sincerely apologized. There are many hotels in Okinawa that actually respect their guests. But regret that I don’t feel it here at this resort.

My stay at Hotel Vessel Okinawa was fantastic! The hotel is modern, clean, and very comfortable. The breakfast offered a good variety and quality, and the staff were always friendly and helpful. The location is great, close to attractions and restaurants, making it easy to explore Okinawa. The room was spacious, quiet, and well-equipped, ensuring restful nights. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for comfort, good service, and an enjoyable experience in Okinawa.
