The hotel is quite close to the bus stop, about a 4-minute walk, but there are no convenience stores nearby. If you stay here, you'll need to book the hotel's breakfast or buy breakfast in advance. The facilities are a bit old, and it seems there are no disposable slippers, only geta (wooden clogs). However, the scenery is absolutely beautiful, with a direct view of Mount Fuji, so you can watch the sunrise right from your room in the morning. Overall, I'm quite satisfied.
Highly recommended.
Clean facilities with two public onsens and an amazing few of Mt. Fuji. If you do not end up with a mountain view room do not be too concerned- there is an observation deck up stairs.
Private onsens are available for rental.
Great service and a relaxing environment, if you find yourself in the area I suggest a 2 night stay at minimum- I had only booked one night and it felt insufficient to fully immerse oneself in the relaxing atmosphere.
1. There were a lot of people waiting at the front desk to check in, so I'd recommend going early. I didn't use the self-service machine and went straight to the manual check-in. The two staff members working were quite busy.
2. There are many guesthouses and hotels on the north shore of Lake Kawaguchiko, and this one offers good value for money. They provide a free shuttle bus service to Mishima and other places like Odawara, which is a great perk. The breakfast was also pretty good, with both Japanese and Western options.
3. Although the room was a bit small, it had all the essential amenities, and even a bathtub for a soak.
4. The free luggage storage service downstairs was also very convenient, especially since check-out is at 10 AM.
Perfect location to see the whole Fuji mountain. you must need car because this location is not easy for public transport. The whole unit is just perfect. it provide breakfast daily as well. Tou can sit at the rooftop to view the city and moutain. it is factastic
Stepping off the bus at Lake Yamanaka, I immediately spotted this hotel perched on the hilltop – the views of Mount Fuji are absolutely unbeatable! Plus, their hot spring is a semi-open-air style, so you can soak while enjoying that incredible Fuji scenery.
Excellent hotel although old, but with the service and nice dinner and breakfast, it's definitely worth a try.
It has 3 different types of onsen (indoor - i didn't try it), open air (facing 2 sides - 1 towards lake and the other 1 towards Mt Fuji, but do bear in mind they switch by gender the next day), and also 1 more onsen bath at my room (for my room type).
So we enjoyed the onsen session. We even paid for the private onsen (facing Mt Fuji) but it's not as good as the open air public one, but still ok due to the privacy.
Staffs are indeed very kind and friendly.
We were given a room on the third floor, which was quite disappointing. It felt like sending an email beforehand requesting a higher floor was pointless. I specifically booked this place after seeing beautiful photos of Mount Fuji taken from higher floors by other guests. Yet, both of our rooms ended up on the third floor. The twin room had a slightly better, though still off-center, view compared to the single. You might want to check if this is the kind of Mount Fuji view you're hoping for; you can't see it from the bed, only from the balcony or right by the door.
Location-wise, the hotel offers a shuttle service to Kawaguchiko Station, which is convenient for getting to Yamanakako and Kawaguchiko by bus. However, the shuttle has limited operating hours and infrequent service.
The hotel was a pleasant surprise with an unexpectedly rich array of activities.
Hidden in the back garden was a large, beautifully manicured Japanese garden. Sipping Japanese matcha while gazing at the small bridges and flowing water was incredibly relaxing.
The taiko drum performance was incredibly energetic! The young performers had amazing stamina, drumming, dancing, and chanting all at once. During the intermission, they even invited children to join in and drum to the rhythm. I later found out it was a performance put on by the hotel staff themselves, which showed so much love and dedication.
There were also bingo games and piano performances, and even one-year-old kids got to wear cute little yukatas! 🫰
From the room, we had a view of Mount Fuji, which was still covered in snow in March. It was cold but stunningly beautiful.
The only minor downsides were that the rooftop open-air onsen with Mount Fuji views was open to women only very early in the morning, and we didn't get a chance to enjoy it due to our schedule. Also, the food might not have been the freshest; after all, fresh seafood isn't exactly a mountain specialty. While we didn't experience vomiting or diarrhea after eating, we did feel a bit off for two days.
The service was great! The view is amazing. The only minor drawback was that the breakfast was exactly the same for both days. We went down at 7 AM and were seated by a window overlooking Mount Fuji, which was lovely! You can see beautiful Mount Fuji right from your room; I didn't even want to go out exploring. I just wanted to relax on the balcony or in the bathtub and enjoy the view! They also offer complimentary evening drinks, including corn soup, juice, and soda, as well as cream puffs and bread. Plus, there's free ramen in the evenings!
Pros:
1. The Mt. Fuji view was perfect. The cleanliness and condition of the facilities were absolutely fine, even exceeding expectations. It's much better than some older, traditional hotels with Mt. Fuji views, offering excellent value for money at this price point.
2. The hotel service was also great. From the front desk to the restaurant staff and the housekeepers, everyone offered service with a smile. Perhaps because it was the off-season, another couple checking in at the same time received a room upgrade. The hotel also provides a convenient shuttle service from Kawaguchiko Station.
3. The restaurant staff were very professional. While the sukiyaki for dinner wasn't a huge surprise, it was decent and had no flaws.
4. It's only a few hundred meters from Oishi Park, which is easily walkable. Compared to other attractions, it's a bit more niche, but the scenery is beautiful and the atmosphere is very pleasant.
Cons:
1. It's quite a distance from Kawaguchiko Station, making it a bit far from other attractions.
2. You can't see Mt. Fuji at night due to the lack of light (which isn't the hotel's fault).
3. All rooms are non-smoking, and the small open space in front of the hotel with Mt. Fuji views is also a non-smoking area. There's only a small designated smoking area at the back entrance of the hotel. As a smoker, it's a bit inconvenient, but completely understandable and acceptable.
4. Also, there are no convenience stores or supermarkets within walking distance of the hotel. The Oishi Store listed on Apple Maps is actually closed.
5. To reach the hotel, you have to walk up a relatively long slope. It can be a bit tiring if you're on foot, but once you're down the slope, you're right by Lake Kawaguchiko, and there are very few people.
Overall, the hotel is excellent. If you're staying with a partner, you can take a walk along Lake Kawaguchiko below the hotel. With Mt. Fuji right in front of you, the atmosphere is romantic and there are few people around. Highly recommended.
