Not far from the station, about a 5-8 minute walk, but there's a small slope, so you'll need some arm strength if you're pushing luggage. The staff were very friendly. The room had tons of amenities, so you definitely won't run out of anything. The hot water for the shower was super hot with great water pressure. Breakfast and dinner were included, and while the food was tasty, the menu was exactly the same every day.
The hotel's location is excellent. You can see the Yuzawa Grand Hotel nestled on the mountainside right from the west exit of Echigo-Yuzawa Station. It's about a 5-minute walk, though the large, steep slope at the hotel entrance requires careful walking, especially after a snowfall in Echigo-Yuzawa and when pushing luggage, to avoid slipping.
We booked a Japanese/Western-style room, and the hotel gave us a room on the 7th floor of the South Wing, directly facing the station. The views were absolutely superb, especially the distant mountains after a snowfall – truly the 'Snow Country' I'd imagined. The room had two beds, and a futon was set up in the Japanese-style area, making it perfect for families with two children on a ski trip.
There are two onsen (hot springs) on the hotel's first floor, and the open-air bath is particularly memorable, especially when you catch a heavy snow while soaking outdoors. An unforgettable experience!
The hotel exudes the charm of an established onsen hotel, with attentive and meticulous service. Yukata and towels are changed daily. Although the facilities show their age, they are still perfectly functional, especially the in-room mini-bar/sink area, which was convenient for eating bentos in the room after skiing each day. Oh, we didn't book breakfast or dinner; we got all our meals from the convenience store inside the station and nearby restaurants.
The hotel's excellent service was also evident in many small details, such as the free rain boots at the entrance and the weather forecasts for various ski resorts. I particularly recommend the ski rental shop right outside the hotel; they have a great attitude, reasonable prices, and the ski gear and helmets are all very new.
In summary, it was a very satisfying stay in every aspect. If I come back to Echigo-Yuzawa during the ski season, I will definitely stay here again!
Nice hotel withe rooms of various sizes. For me it was spacious enough. Bed was comfortable, would have liked one more cushion.
Room was clean an I liked that i could open the window. It was quite hot in the room because the heater was turned on. Even if i turned it off hot air came out.
Room was clean and had everything i needed. You can also get things at the front desk.
Breakfast was buffetstyle and really very good with a lot of choises, both Japanese, local and western.
Location was very convenient near the train station. About max a 5 minutes walk. Near the hotel there are a lot of places to eat or have a drink. At the station is a shopping mall.
【Excellent Location • Natural Sulfur Hot Springs • Heartwarming Late Night】
My stay at the Dormy Onsen Hotel in Niigata far exceeded my expectations, with every detail bringing surprises and satisfaction!
📍 Extremely Convenient Transportation
The hotel's location is perfect, just a 6-minute walk from Niigata JR Station. Even with luggage, it's easily accessible, making it incredibly convenient as either the starting or ending point of a trip.
☕ Thoughtful Welcome Treatment
Upon entering the hotel lobby, you're immediately greeted by a complimentary coffee machine. A free, unlimited cup of fragrant hot coffee instantly washes away travel fatigue, invigorating you and giving you energy for the rest of your trip (or shopping!).
♨️ Authentic Natural Hot Springs
The quality of the hot springs is the biggest highlight! The large public baths are divided into indoor and outdoor baths, all made with genuine natural hot spring water. The strong sulfur smell immediately upon entering is incredibly reassuring. The highlight is the open-air hot spring, cleverly designed with a cave theme. Gazing at the stars or the cave walls amidst the rising steam feels like stepping into a natural wonderland – a truly therapeutic experience.
🍜 Heartwarming Late-Night Dining Delight
The most delightful surprise is at night! Every night from 9:30 PM to 11:00 PM, the hotel offers complimentary ”Yonari Kisobaba” – steaming hot and delicious soba noodles to satisfy your hungry stomach after a soak in the hot spring. Not only that, but there are also complimentary Yakult, popsicles, and other snacks and drinks, all available 24 hours a day – this attentive care is simply wonderful!
From its location and service to its hot springs and thoughtful late-night snacks, this hotel demonstrates its dedication to its guests. It's definitely the perfect accommodation choice for a trip to Niigata that you'll want to return to again and again! Highly recommended for anyone looking for a high-value hot spring inn.
Everything about the service was top-notch.
The food was all delicious, and there was plenty of it to fill you up, with kaiseki cuisine even including sake, and the option to choose one dish from the menu.
After 10 PM, they offer a late-night snack called 'yonaki soba' (night-time ramen). It's quantity-limited, so when I went a little before 10 PM, many people were already waiting. The dining area has limited seating, but takeaway was an option, so I ate it in my room.
From ice cream after a bath to Yakult in the morning, I was never hungry and felt full the entire time I was at the inn. It was wonderful.
The breakfast was also voluminous, and you could have unlimited rice.
There's also a private bath. While it doesn't have a showerhead, it's a perfect space to spend time with a loved one. It was available when I went in the evening.
Overall, I was surprised by how few Japanese guests there were; most seemed to be Chinese or other Asian guests.
I'd like to stay here again when I go skiing.
Spacious and comfortable room. The onsen is quite large and well equipped, however the downside is that it has no view. The hotel also has locker room for ski equipment which is very convenient.
It takes 10 minutes to travel from the hotel to the Akakura Onsen town and most other ski resorts in the area, driving is recommended but there are also shuttle services.
One of the newest boutique style hotels in Sado Island. Centrally located, just 20 minutes from the Ryotsu port. Great amenities and it has a hotspring with fancy hair dryers and hair oils. Roof terrace where you can see so many stars.
In the old resort hotel, the waiter has a kind of old-fashioned and honest devotion. In order to book dinner, he called me five or six times to arrange and confirm. Because the hotel is halfway up the mountain, every meal I ate at the hotel. I ate French, shabushabu and Italian, and the standard was good. Hotel hot spring is the best hot spring in Japan in recent years. Akakura Sightseeing Snow Resort also feels more ancient and wild, and has a unique flavor.

GGuest UserThe lady at the counter was so accommodating. Provided everything we needed and was happy to help in any other way. Spoke a little English but used google translate to help. We couldn't use the dining room for dinner, I think that had to be booked in advance. There was only one or two other places open in town at 7.30pm for dinner. So wasn't many options. The room had stains all over the floor, but otherwise the beds were clean, and comfortable being on the harder springy side, and the bathroom was very clean. The onsen was amazing. The room was a good size, and had extra toilets down the hall if we needed them. The Japanese breakfast that was provided was fantastic. We only stayed one night because we were walking the next day just near there otherwise would have stayed in a bigger town, because of the limited outside facilities. But for the price and it was convenient it was good. Would stay again if I had to, but otherwise would go for a bit nicer place.

GGuest UserThe service was excellent. The shuttle bus picked us up and dropped us off at Yuzawa Station East Exit, and it only took 5 minutes to get to the hotel. The outdoor onsen (hot spring) was amazing, with continuous snow-capped mountains right outside. The hotel also offers a partnership with a ski rental shop and provides transportation to various ski resorts. Dinner was served in our room and cost 7,700 JPY per person.

GGuest UserThank you for your help for 3 nights and 4 days. The food was very delicious and I was full. I enjoyed the bath for a long time, as it was open from 15:00 to 10:00 the next day. I enjoyed watching the dances such as the illumination of Sado Kanayama and Sado Okesa during the night activities. Thank you for your help!
