The Best Western York Pavilion Hotel is a truly stunning hotel in York, offering peace and tranquility just a mile outside of the center. A brisk 25 minute walk along the river will lead you into the heart of the city, where you can tick off some of the best attractions Yorkshire has to offer. The hotel itself is a Georgian grade II listed country house, with spectacular landscaped gardens, lawns and a courtyard fit for a fairy tale.

Eden camp is just a 30 minute drive from the hotel, and is one of the UK’s largest museums on British militarily and social history. Flamingo land is also just a 30 minute drive, and a superb family day out - with a both a zoo and rides for a jam packed outing.

You will enjoy the gorgeous food next to a welcoming fire and beautiful view of the garden. "We only used the accommodation for two nights without breakfast or any other meals. The room was very clean and had everything we needed. The staff were friendly and the coffee was great. The decor was really nice with a jazz feel. It was very quaint and vintage.
I would imagine a stay in the summer would be very nice as the courtyard was very pretty and peaceful."

We booked two lovely ”King” rooms - very clean and comfortable, in superb settings. The hotel is very conveniently located to allow a short walk into the town.
We stayed for two nights, and there were busy weddings on both days - but there was minimal noise, and the wedding guests added to the lovely atmosphere.
The hotel appeared to be almost fully booked for both days, so finding that only ONE lift was working was less than helpful (we were told that the other lift had been out of action ”for some time”, due to the hotel ”awaiting spare parts”?)
Annoyingly, the one working lift only went up to the 4th floor, so to reach our room on the 5th floor we had to hump our suitcases up the stairs - minor inconvenience, but unexpected from such a prestigious hotel.
Our biggest gripe was (a.) the lack of available parking spaces (one car park had a huge marquee erected on it for a function) and (b.) being told when checking in that there was a parking charge of £18 per night - even though there was no mention on the website or on the booking details. It felt rather ”cheap and petty” for a hotel to have to stoop to fleecing their guests for parking fees to park at their hotel! We estimated that there were around 150 cars - so guests with cars are subsiding the hotel by over £2500 per night.
All-in-all, a thoroughly enjoyable stay in a lovely hotel set in lovely surroundings - we would definitely stay there again.

Guest UserYes the room was dated, and yes the room was hot. However the room was clean, comfortable and a fan was provided to help circulate the warm air. The windows have restricted openings most likely due to H&S but with the fan it was enough to move the warm air out and allow cooler air in.
Check up was chaotic but the lady apologized and explained they had a member of the staff off sick. She worked her way through everyone as quickly as she could giving everyone the same warm welcome.
Breakfast was enjoyable and the spa area was a delight offering everything you need.
After checking out I realized I left my sunglasses in the room. The cleaning team were so helpful allowing me access to retrieve them and to double check I had everything

Guest UserHotel was quite easy to find & access was quite good. Good car parking arrangement with the council for 2 day's. Disappointment the hotel didn't offer an evening meal so we had to go out & find it which wasn't ideal as when booking we noticed a restaurant on site. Only coach parties would be entertainment apparently.
Breakfast covered hot & continental which was good to us.
Our room however was far from satisfactory to us but we tolerated it & didn't complain. The bathroom door handle was troublesome to open so instead of fixing it they put a sign on the door telling us what to do.. The bathroom blind was also broken.
The very small room had a tiny bed which was far from comfortable. We paid a lot for 2 nights which we regret so alas we won't be returning.

ArtistaThe grand exterior of the hotel is impressive, but the rooms are very dated. There is no air conditioning, so booking a room with a window is a must for summer. I booked a window room, though the window required some effort to open. Some rooms do provide fans.
On the plus side, the price is budget-friendly, and the location is incredibly convenient, right next to the beach and the cliff tram, with shops within easy walking distance.
Note that check-out is early at 10AM, and late check-out requires an extra fee. Also, the hotel does not offer free parking, you will need to find paid street parking nearby. It isn’t expensive, but it takes time to find a space during holidays.

Guest UserMy daughter and I stayed here for 4 nights and had a great stay. The room was very nice, lovely and clean and we enjoyed the unusual touches such as the record player, dolls house for teas and coffees etc. The pantry for guests is a lovely touch too. The room was a little tight ( it was a large double) but it was manageable.
The hotel is in a good spot, with an easy walk in to York Minster and the centre.
The bar was a nice spot to sit and relax and all staff we encountered were very friendly.

Beautiful hotel only 10 minutes walk from the city centre
Our room was clean and cosy
In the room was hairdryer, iron and ironing board as well as tea/coffee facilities and an electric fan which was definitely needed with temps reaching 29 degrees 🥵
The outdoor area was stunning with lots of seating and little pods to dine in of an evening very pretty all lit up at night
All the staff were friendly and helpful
We will definitely return in the near future.

Guest UserWe liked the welcome by the concierge. Building is incredible. The first check-in was nice. The second check-in we were ignored walked past and Not greeted nicely when we got to our room. I wasn’t very happy with it a lot smaller more than I imagined from the pictures. Big beds though and firm. We had the executive twin. The carpets were fraid the units all worn and broken only two tinny water bottles. There was a fridge in the room but very noisy had to turn that off. wasn’t very clean in the shower. It had a connecting door in the room which I don’t like personally, I did ask the Hotel if there was another room available or if we could be upgraded, This took nearly an hour with long phone breaks to be shown to another room that was dated and had a really bad smell like mold.
I have stayed at other five star hotels and when you’re not happy they go above and beyond and didn’t feel like this Hotel did everything at all, it was overpriced. More like a 4 star in the rooms. It costs you £30 to go into the spa every time and we have to book this wasn’t keen on that either. The Service in the restaurant was great the food was loving the Ride restaurant and the Service in the spa was great with two members of staff. One looked me up and down and a bit off but There was a friendly man offering drinks and was really friendly and helpful. There were nice parts of the stay but felt the effort to change our room was poor. Won’t stay again because room was basic damaged, with the cost of the room, spa should be less.

Guest UserOverall, I wouldn't really recommend it. The location is okay, just outside the city walls. However, all the rooms are in the attic, requiring two flights of very narrow stairs, making it impossible to bring up even a slightly larger suitcase. The floors are uneven, and in some areas, it feels like they could easily collapse; even with a carpet, they still creak when you walk on them.
What's even more frustrating is that the attic is already stuffy, and a constant instant noodle smell drifts up from the downstairs restaurant. On the night we checked in, we found one of the air conditioners wasn't working, but the front desk said the maintenance staff had already left for the day and could only provide us with a small electric fan.

Sad-MmMy main concern about this hotel stay was the towels in the room; almost every single one had hair and dirty marks. The faucet had to be turned on manually because the pull rod directly opposite it was completely unusable. Slippers and toothbrushes can be requested from the front desk. It would have been perfect if the cleaning staff had cleared the cobwebs near the window and ensured the towels were clean. Also, the room was on the 5th floor, requiring an elevator ride to the third floor and then climbing two more flights of stairs. The front desk staff were quite patient, though.
