The Best Western York Pavilion Hotel is a truly stunning hotel in York, offering peace and tranquility just a mile outside of the center. A brisk 25 minute walk along the river will lead you into the heart of the city, where you can tick off some of the best attractions Yorkshire has to offer. The hotel itself is a Georgian grade II listed country house, with spectacular landscaped gardens, lawns and a courtyard fit for a fairy tale. York is one of the country’s most fascinating cities, with countless things to do and see. York’s Roman walls, the train museum, the ancient ruins and York Minster are all within a working distance of the hotel. As is Clifford’s Tower, which offers some breath-taking panoramic views of York that will be sure to make you fall in love with the city. If you’re coming by car, we recommend checking out some of the surrounding attractions. Eden camp is just a 30 minute drive from the hotel, and is one of the UK’s largest museums on British militarily and social history. Flamingo land is also just a 30 minute drive, and a superb family day out - with a both a zoo and rides for a jam packed outing. The hotels brasserie is award-winning and will be there to serve you some fantastic fine dining dishes after a busy day. You will enjoy the gorgeous food next to a welcoming fire and beautiful view of the garden. For something a little more informal, the hotels Parisian bar is ideal as it offers just as much style as the brasserie, but in a relaxed setting. So, if you’re looking for a blissful escape from everyday life, that’s still within walking distance of the historic city center, then the Best Western York Pavilion Hotel is just what you need.

"This is a good place for a one night visit. The parking is £15 a night which I think was quite steep, however the parking in York is also very expensive too. To get to the room was quite a challenge with a suitcase because the corridors and stairs are narrow. The room was lacking some amenities e.g. water, fridge, broken fan. It also could do with an update. Good for one night only, surprisingly quiet by the road, too."

"It's about a 17-minute walk from the train station, which can be a bit of a trek if you have luggage. You can store your bags for free in the basement before check-in. It's an old building, so there's no elevator, but the staff kindly helped me carry my luggage upstairs when I checked in. The lack of a bed curtain was a slight inconvenience, but overall it was a good stay."

we went last year to this hotel and found it excellent but this time it did not feel as good. Firstly the bedroom very small and the window did not stay open when we told the maid she must have known about it because she came and propped it open with 2 rolls of paper towels, also there were no hand towels in our room the whole stay only 2 bath towels. last year there seemed better selection the breakfast seemed hit and miss first day no hash brown and only one flavour of yogurt, second day there was hash brown but no sausages. there were never ever any black pudding or fried bread which i would have expected for a full english.

Hotel was quite easy to find & access was quite good. Good car parking arrangement with the council for 2 day's. Disappointment the hotel didn't offer an evening meal so we had to go out & find it which wasn't ideal as when booking we noticed a restaurant on site. Only coach parties would be entertainment apparently. Breakfast covered hot & continental which was good to us. Our room however was far from satisfactory to us but we tolerated it & didn't complain. The bathroom door handle was troublesome to open so instead of fixing it they put a sign on the door telling us what to do.. The bathroom blind was also broken. The very small room had a tiny bed which was far from comfortable. We paid a lot for 2 nights which we regret so alas we won't be returning.

The grand exterior of the hotel is impressive, but the rooms are very dated. There is no air conditioning, so booking a room with a window is a must for summer. I booked a window room, though the window required some effort to open. Some rooms do provide fans. On the plus side, the price is budget-friendly, and the location is incredibly convenient, right next to the beach and the cliff tram, with shops within easy walking distance. Note that check-out is early at 10AM, and late check-out requires an extra fee. Also, the hotel does not offer free parking, you will need to find paid street parking nearby. It isn’t expensive, but it takes time to find a space during holidays.

This hotel has great style! From the interior design to the cocktails, everything was excellent. Although breakfast isn't a buffet, there are plenty of options, very local and English. The hotel even has a basement that served as a shelter during WWII and has now been converted into a spa – very cool, definitely worth checking out. The hotel pantry also offers complimentary snacks, fruits, and drinks. It's truly good, and the location is fantastic. The record player and vinyl records in the room are a wonderful touch.

We absolutely loved this hotel. Inside and outside, its beautiful! The rooms were modern and clean and they provided a well stocked coffee bar. Location is also good, walking distance from the city centre. Would definitely recommend.

Environment: Probably the best hotel in York, right? Of course, it's not cheap. The executive room I booked was very spacious, and the bed was comfortable. Facilities: My friend and I both booked executive rooms, but it seems some rooms are older and some are newly renovated. The older rooms had a drying rack, which my newer room didn't seem to have. Cleanliness: Decent. Service: Executive rooms come with breakfast, but it's just a typical British buffet breakfast, not much variety. I personally didn't like it; maybe I'm just tired of 'white people food'.

The room design is poorly thought out. It was a maze trying to find my room, and it would be a nightmare with a lot of luggage! Then, you have to navigate narrow stairs, and even inside the room, there are more cramped stairs! The sloped ceiling in the bathroom means you constantly hit your head when reaching for tissue, which is also installed in an inconvenient spot! The towel warmer was broken too. Cleanliness was mediocre; my slipper soles were dirty after just a few steps. I won't be returning! The breakfast was terrible with hardly anything to eat!

If you are Chinese, I strongly suggest thinking twice before staying here. I was first assigned a room in the side building that reeked of mould and had a broken bathroom sink. After complaining, I was moved to an accessible room on the same floor, despite having no accessibility needs — no bathtub, an absurdly tiny sink, and a mirror positioned for wheelchair users. If this was considered an appropriate replacement, perhaps they should have provided a wheelchair too. What made the room allocation even more questionable was that the floor, with around 11–12 rooms, appeared largely empty. And it certainly wasn’t because of good soundproofing — I could clearly hear guests talking in other rooms. So why was I first given a mouldy, broken room, and then an entirely unsuitable accessible room when the floor did not even appear full? Separately, there was a white female receptionist whose behaviour made the experience even worse: dramatic eye-rolling, a condescending attitude, followed by the most artificial “professional” smile imaginable. I cannot prove the motivation behind the room allocation, but as a Chinese guest, the entire experience left me feeling singled out and discriminated against. A terrible room can be an accident. Repeatedly questionable treatment is harder to explain away.

I only stayed for the one night but I was impressed with the pleasant demeanour and organisational skill of the staff. My room was very clean and bed very comfortable. Finally, I had a very enjoyable breakfast with all staff being very attentive. I would certainly stay again if ever I was in the area .
