This hotel… TBH, I was expecting more. I knew this hotel undergo a rebranding and refurbishment. So I was excited to try the HoJo brand. The room is clean, but not new. Partially you still see fittings from the previous decade. It’s a funny thing to see new and improved features alongside the classic furnitures and appliances. I like the new filtered water faucet. Very convenient. The shower is great too. Good pressure and temperature. Comes with a bathtub. Bed is nice. Room comes with ironing board. Basically everything I would expect from a hotel. Then comes the disappointment. The mini bar is so bulky, and so old. the air cond control… I don’t know what is it controlling. There’s only one dial for temperature. No control for the fan speed or anything. Then the TV, small and a very old model, fitted onto the wall with backlight design. That’s just so funny. And the toilet, the flush is barely working. And cigarette smoke from somewhere is coming in via the ventilators. All things said, it’s still a value stay. I just find it extremely weird. A half-baked refurbishment.

The service here is wonderful! The staff are very friendly, and the receptionists are incredibly helpful, making the check-in and stay very smooth. While I enjoyed the hospitality, the breakfast menu was a bit disappointing. It was very basic and lacked any 'standout' dishes that would appeal to tourists. Great service, but the food options need more variety

The location is fantastic, right next to Gaya Street and with a park just a short walk away – super convenient. However, the hotel facilities are pretty basic. It's really only suitable if you need a quick overnight stay after landing at the airport to catch up on some sleep.

I didn't like the bathroom design; the shower door would hit the bathmat when opening and closing, which was quite impractical. Everything else was fine, and breakfast was decent. The young man who checked me in at the front desk was very nice, but later when I went to retrieve my luggage late at night, another staff member was quite cold. Thanks to the staff member who helped me with both check-in and check-out, I appreciate it.

The front desk service was excellent! I'd recommend upgrading to the premium twin room; the standard twin is too small. The pictures show the premium twin, which is comparable to a new Hanting hotel in China. The location is also very convenient, with lots of great food nearby. For seafood, I highly recommend Kk Garden Seafood! It's fresh and affordable. For fried chicken, try KFC – it's different from the one in China and much better than the other trendy Southeast Asian fried chicken spots.

We had a lovely stay at The Luma Hotel. I instantly fell in live with their interior the moment I saw it on social media, more so when we got to experience staying in it. Apart from their impeccably well-thought of interior design, I also appreciate how accommodating their staffs were as well as how convenient the location of the hotel. Would definitely come back once I visit Kota Kinabalu

I expected a great hotel stay and they delivered. All the staff were lovely. Thank you for that. My only issue is the lack of room information regarding what is available in the hotel. Normally I would expect marketing information and menus for restarunt and bar in the room. The TV does give room service menu but was not required. Fortunately we found Ben, the Concierge in the lobby who very kindly explained what we asked, and provided a map for the area. Very welcome. Thank you very much.

AMAZING!!!! The staff here! They are so unbelievably friendly and helpful. They truly made me feel so special and welcomed throughout my stay. Especially the ladies at breakfast and the guys at the door. I got the seaview room and that view was breathtaking! Front row seats to that sunset every day! The rooms are very clean and the beds and pillows are extremely comfortable, would 100% recommend if you’re looking for a comfortable and relaxing stay. The rooftop bar also has the best view of the sunset in my opinion. Breakfast was great, too- so much choice!

MMongGrThe location is good. Not that near to town center. Parking is definitely a challenge since its opposite a shopping mall. Traffic rather congested around hotel. Nearby parking is at least Rm6 per entry. There are mosquito in the room and I dont know how they got there. Room cleanliness is acceptable. Swimming pool and gym facility is decent. Sufficient for light usage. Buffet breakfast is rather bland (I stayed for 5 nights include weekend) all the same repetitive food. Cost wise i think is worthy since the price include breakfast. Picture attach are the food I found at the shopping mall beside.

GGuest UserThe sea view is amazing! 👍 The facilities are a bit old (I expected this, so it was fine). The service, however, was terrible. For a hotel that costs over 2,000 per night, the service is worse than what you'd get at a business hotel. I arrived a little after 3 PM to check in and waited over half an hour. Every counter had staff, but they were incredibly inefficient, and the lobby was a chaotic mess, packed with people. Since the lobby is on the second floor, our luggage was supposed to be delivered to our room. It took almost an hour, and after four phone calls, it finally arrived at 4:56 PM (I needed my computer by 5 PM, which is why I kept calling room service to rush the luggage). We were charged an extra bed fee for three people, but by 11 PM, when we returned to the room, the extra bed still hadn't been set up. After calling, a staff member came, opened a cabinet, and pulled out a bed. The 'duvet' was a sheet covering a blanket, and the mattress was a soft spring mattress placed right next to the balcony door. It was less comfortable than three of us sharing two king-sized beds. The walk from the lobby to the Tanjong Wing is very long. For this price, there should typically be a shuttle service, but there wasn't one here. They didn't even inform us that the hotel actually had a car, but by the time we saw it, we were almost there anyway. After watching the sunset, I left my room key in the room. I had to trek all the way back to the lobby, only to start waiting again. When I tried to ask other staff members in the lobby for help, they all directed me to the front desk. At that point, there were only two staff members at the front desk, so I had to queue again. Even when staff members came out from inside and saw the queue, they didn't open another counter. In summary, the service completely, absolutely does not match the price. It's purely for the sea view (which, I admit, is truly stunning and worth it).

AAnonymous UserJust got back home yesterday, and I'm determined to write a thorough review for this hotel. My kids also encouraged me to review it, because it truly deserves it. We booked four ocean villas for two nights, and I initially thought our chances of encountering issues would be higher with such a large booking. But we didn't run into any problems at all! In fact, I even regretted not booking more nights, mainly because I was put off by too many negative reviews on Ctrip. 1. **Service:** If you're comfortable communicating in English, the hotel service is absolutely fantastic. Most of the staff speak excellent English and were diligent in explaining activities, facilities, schedules, and programs. They showed us where everything was in the room and proactively informed us about the cost if we broke any of the toiletries bottles. The higher cost for broken bottles is because the contents are genuinely expensive – they're pure plant essential oil toiletries. As someone who regularly uses essential oils, I know they shouldn't be stored in plastic. Plus, these toiletries left our hair and skin feeling moisturized, not dry. I found them to be very effective. If you're worried about breaking them, just place them on the floor. 2. **Seawater:** The seawater is quite clear. While it's not a 'jelly blue,' the clarity is definitely good. We did experience a heavy downpour one day, and the water became a bit murky the next, but it was still perfectly acceptable. The photo of the large sea turtle looks a bit blurry because it was taken with a waterproof phone case, but the water itself was actually very clear. That was taken from under our water villa. The manta ray was photographed near the stairs of our water villa room. 3. **No Outside Food Policy:** They don't allow outside food in the rooms because it attracts ants and monkeys. The front desk has a dedicated area for storing snacks. We didn't bring any snacks into our room and always closed the door promptly, so we didn't have any bugs or insects. A crucial point: absolutely do not feed the monkeys! 4. **Meals:** We had all our meals at the hotel restaurant, and the food was truly delicious. A main meal costs around 90+ MYR per person (about 160 CNY). We felt the food was excellent, with a good variety of dishes and drinks beyond just the main courses. The kids' portions were a bit small; our four children ordered 7 kids' meals, and eventually, we just ordered them regular adult meals instead. 5. **Hot Water:** Regarding previous reviews mentioning no hot water, one of our rooms indeed had this issue. We called the front desk, and it turned out there's a 'water heater' button on the wall. Hot water was available within 15 minutes. So, don't hesitate to ask! Don't be shy; good service often requires you to speak up. 6. **Free Rentals:** Paddleboards, small boats, fins, and masks are all available for free rental. 7. **Marine Life:** In the ocean, we spotted baby sharks, baby manta rays, triggerfish, archerfish (the ones that shoot water), porcupinefish, and even a large sea turtle (which is rare, but we got lucky!). 8. **Welcome/Farewell:** We received a welcome ceremony and a welcome drink upon arrival. Upon departure, we sometimes had the whole staff waving goodbye to us. 9. **Guest Demographics:** There were a lot of European and American guests at the hotel, some Koreans, but not many Chinese guests. I wonder if this is due to the excessive negative reviews on Ctrip. 10. **Cleanliness:** The hygiene was excellent, and the rooms were very clean. Each room came with life vests, so you could go snorkeling anytime. That pretty much covers it. I believe if your English communication is good, feel free to chat with the front desk and restaurant staff; they are very engaging. At 8 AM, the hotel organizes a free jungle trek. It was a bit tiring, and we didn't see much – just hiking uphill. For reference, my experience this trip, and with these four rooms, was genuinely excellent. Having been to places like the Maldives, Bali, and Koh Lipe... I think this hotel offers great value for money, and I would definitely come back. Hotels at this price point on Koh Lipe before were significantly worse.

GGuest UserOverall, I'm quite satisfied. The room was spacious, and the hotel is located right by the pier. There was dedicated staff to handle luggage, though the facilities are definitely outdated and the room had a strange odor. The service was decent, but the front desk really helped us out of a bind when an unexpected situation arose on our way back.

LLove CoffeeMy first stay here and I think would be my last too. Was actually requested a quiet room but still giving the room which facing the contrustion site. Noise of the construction site was up to 10pm+ and 5am+ the prayer from the nearby mosque will make you jump! Impressive with the location but not the room. Furnitures in room quite old but still acceptable, but cleanliness and maintenance was terrible. 1) Water leaks out from shower room to walkway via the wall. 2) Old and dirty toilet with mold 3) Malfunctioning light bulb 4) Stains on the towel ( sticky like chocolate, like unwashed) 5) Ants on table & bed! 6) Loosen door lock 7) Dirty chair

GGuest UserI took my youngest daughter for her 18th birthday. It was a fantastic experience. There was so much on offer. But we went to have a relaxing holiday before the start of her 'A' Level exams. The service was beyond my expectations. For a 5☆ resort, it should be 8☆s! I believe that whilst we were there, the hotel was full and yet the staff were able to remember our room numbers even if only having said the number once. There was a full itinerary for the days that we were there, and which restaurants offered which type of buffet. The food was absolutely delicious and beyond compare. We loved it. The sunsets were beautiful too. My daughter did not want to leave, but leave we must, as she returns to school tomorrow. The Ocean Wing Junior Suite Sea View Twin Room was absolutely stunning. So spacious, with a desk that my daughter could work from. A jacuzzi on the balcony and blinds for privacy. Loved the doors for the shower and toilet, and the double sink. Also loved that when the balcony doors open the airconditioning stopped until the doors were closed once again. Overall, we loved it so much, we will be returning with the rest of the brood.

AAkmaaalI recently stayed at Sutera@Mantanani for a-night, and it was magnificent an unforgettable island experience. The room was spacious enough for both of us! WE ARE SO HAPPY that they provides everything we needed for a comfortable and relaxing stay. The rooms are well-equipped with air conditioning, ceiling fans, flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, tea and coffee making facilities, and safety deposit boxes. There’s no need to worry about bringing toiletries or coping with the island heat, as all essentials are thoughtfully provided, making it easy to unwind and fully enjoy the island experience. We spent the morning watching the sunrise and the tide coming in with the clean ocean and beautiful Mount Kinabalu.Other than that they also have kayak rentals, and there is many activities we have done such as sunset walk, ATV, volley ball with other guest, and a romantic night with a bon fire and skies full of stars. The staff were super friendly and helpful, especially during the boat transfer from Rampayan Jetty, they helped us load our luggage, AND they also very helpful in explaining the trip itinerary, ensuring guests could manage their time well and make the most of their stay, while also clearly informing us of rules and safety guidelines to ensure everyone’s well-being. Meals were served buffet-style in the resort’s open-air dining area, with fresh local seafood, grilled fish, nasi lemak, and tropical fruits, breakfast included eggs, toast, and local pastries. We appreciated that the chef accommodated a vegetarian request without issue. Overall, Sutera@Mantanani is a perfect island retreat, and I would came back here and highly recommend it to couples, families, or anyone seeking a quiet, nature-filled getaway.

GGuest UserThe closest hotel to the pier, hands down. I don't know how the ratings are calculated... I'm not judging it by domestic standards; when in Rome, do as the Romans do. Local facilities just aren't that great. Based on what I saw online, I thought it would be terrible, but the room was surprisingly clean. Although there's nowhere to hang clothes to dry, I'd advise anyone who loves going out to sea and exploring the pier to stay close by. The front desk staff were also great; they have a WeChat for communication and translation. Don't bother looking at the negative reviews or the ratings. I stayed in town for 6 days, and the first place, which had the highest rating, was personally the worst.
