🏙️ Must-Visit Districts in Osaka

Dotonbori and Namba

Dotonbori and Namba: the beating heart of Osaka

If there are neighbourhoods that truly embody Osaka, it’s Namba and Dotonbori! This is the perfect place to discover the city’s finest boutiques and its famous neon signs (including the iconic Glico Man sign!). Japan’s Times Square! By day or by night, this area never stops buzzing, and you’ll find shops and restaurants open at any time of day or night.

To make the most of the neighbourhood, we recommend strolling along the canal and hopping aboard a cruise on the Tombori River to admire the city from the water. Between strolls, take the time to try takoyaki (octopus balls) or okonomiyaki (savoury Japanese pancake), both local specialities prepared right before your eyes. An absolute treat!

Shinsekai and Tennoji: retro, working-class charm

Time for a change of scene—make way for the city's calm. Further south, Shinsekai immerses you in a retro atmosphere inspired by Paris and New York in the early 20th century. The neighbourhood is dominated by the Tsutenkaku Tower, a truly nostalgic emblem of the city!

Here—and you’ll notice it in no time—life moves at a laid-back pace: people play pachinko, savour kushikatsu (crispy breaded skewers), and chat in izakaya; in short, it feels like you’re visiting a little village in a big city!

Just next door, and if time permits, we recommend Spa World, which offers Japanese baths, saunas and relaxation areas — a relaxing and typically local experience!

Finally, if you’re a fan of panoramic views, head to the neighbouring Tennoji district, home to Shitennoji Temple (founded in the 6th century) as well as the famous Abeno Harukas skyscraper, the tallest in Japan with its panoramic observation deck!

Osaka Bay: leisure and entertainment

Osaka Bay

After exploring Osaka’s must-see streets and neighbourhoods, why not discover all the leisure activities in and around Osaka? Here’s our selection of the best things to do (whether you’re with family, friends, or as a couple):

●      🎢 Universal Studios Japan, one of the most visited theme parks in the world

●      🍄 Super Nintendo World! Rediscover your inner child and immerse yourself completely in the world of Mario and his friends (including Harry Potter’s castle!)

●      🐋 Kaiyukan Aquarium, one of the largest aquariums in the world, where you can, among other things, see whale sharks. Book your tickets now!

●      🎡 Tempozan Ferris Wheel, towering over the port and offering a magnificent view of the bay

Umeda: modernity and panoramic views

Another must-visit district is Umeda in the north of Osaka. It’s literally the symbol of the modern city! Between its glass towers and underground arcades, you’ll dive straight into the city of tomorrow!

To kick things off, head up to the top of the Umeda Sky Building for a 360° panorama of the city (a breathtaking view!). We also recommend going at night—the view is even more spectacular, with Osaka’s lights stretching all the way to the bay.

If the urge to shop strikes, don’t panic—shopping centres like Grand Front Osaka, LUCUA, or HEP Five (recognisable by its large red Ferris wheel perched on the roof) offer a wide choice of boutiques, designer cafés, and traditional restaurants with panoramic views.

Location is convenient but requires 5 to 10 mins walk to nearest train station. It's in a business neighbourhood so not many late night food options available around but its a nice quiet place to go back to after a day out at bustling umeda or namba. Hotel room was really spacious, nicely done up and comfortable; I wish I had one more night here. Service staff at the lobby were all friendly and they very graciously gave me an early check-in when there was a room available. Highly recommended!

Despite some moments we had read on maps, the room we had on the 25th floor was recent, comfortable and well equipped. The size of the bathroom was also good if not bigger than usual hotel in Japan. Breakfast buffet on the 36th floor ia standard and lack a bit of originality but the view from all tables on the city is stunning. Hotel is also very well located and served perfectly our needs. Finally staff was nice and helpful. This is definitely an address we will happily go back to.

Having stayed at Hotel Nikko before, I chose it again this time. First off, the transportation is super convenient. You can exit from Shinsaibashi Midosuji Line's Exit 8, take the escalator up, and you're there. Alternatively, you can use Exit 4A, take the elevator, cross the street, and arrive, which I find even more convenient. The hotel is directly opposite Daimaru and Shinsaibashi-suji, perfect for shopping. There are also some small shops and convenience stores behind the hotel. Plus, there are dining options right downstairs. The breakfast is quite extensive, with both Japanese and Western options available. We opted for the Western buffet. The room was larger than those in Tokyo, though this time I felt the hotel's facilities have gotten a bit old. All in all, if I come to Osaka again, I'll definitely choose Hotel Nikko once more~

This truly lives up to its reputation as an established five-star hotel. It embodies all the qualities of a five-star establishment, with staff who are highly service-oriented and professional. The front desk staff are particularly professional and have good English skills. The rooms are spacious and well-equipped, and during my 6-night stay, the cleaning was impeccable every day. The location is excellent; the airport limousine bus goes directly here, and there's also a bus to Tennoji from right outside the hotel, running every 15 minutes for 120 yen. The subway is directly accessible from the hotel's basement, just two stops to Namba and five to Umeda. Right next door is Kintetsu Department Store, which connects to an annex featuring Muji and Uniqlo, among others. The basement supermarket offers very reasonable prices. Across the street, Hihi Town boasts a variety of authentic local restaurants. I would definitely stay here again.

The room was quite small, but all the amenities expected from an IHG property were fully provided; though small, it had everything one could need. There's a hotel shuttle bus to USJ, with only one departure at 7:30 AM on the day we went. We booked it in advance via email, and the response was quick and excellent. We secured our seats and entered the park by 8 AM, which was a great experience. It was a bit difficult to find the shuttle bus stop from Umeda Osaka Station to the hotel. I suggest the hotel provide a video route guide; that would significantly improve the guest experience. The only drawback was the strong disinfectant smell in the bathroom. I hope they can address this.

Zentis has become my favorite hotel in Osaka! The service is excellent, and the staff are always attentive, friendly, and ready to help with anything. Breakfasts are delicious, and the location is perfect — very convenient for exploring the city. The hotel is new, beautifully designed, and extremely comfortable — a real gem! My stay was so pleasant and memorable. I’m already looking forward to coming back!

Osaka|0.37km from city centre
First off, I'd definitely stay here again! I recommend it to anyone looking for good value for money, just needing a place to sleep, similar to a budget hotel like Hanting in China. I stayed at the Keihan Hotel Yodoyabashi from October 1st to 4th, 2025, in a small double room (non-smoking). Here’s my breakdown: * **Location & Transportation**: ⚠️ It's not in the central business district, but it's only one or two subway stops away from Umeda, Namba, etc.! If you're on a tight schedule, you might want to stay somewhere more central. It's about a 5-minute walk from the subway station, so if you're planning a super intensive 'special forces' type trip, I wouldn't recommend it. * **Convenience stores**: There's a 7-Eleven just a 30-second walk to the left of the hotel. A Lawson is a 3-minute walk to the right. There are also two FamilyMart stores within a 5-minute walk. * **Restaurants**: There are restaurants like Matsuya nearby, which is very convenient. * **Quiet**: Also, because it's in a business district, it's very quiet! * **Service Level**: The front desk staff were friendly and responsive. Aside from check-in and check-out, I didn't have much other interaction, so I can't comment further. * **Room Condition**: * **Space**: As expected, the room was small, but perfectly adequate. We could open three 20-inch carry-on suitcases. * **Amenities**: The layout was well-planned, with a fridge, safe, kettle (Tiger brand), cups, a small stool, and a bathtub. All facilities were in good working order (the bedding was quite nice and comfortable). * **Hot Water**: The hot water could be a bit more stable; it wasn't as good as the hotel I stayed at in Kyoto. * **Soundproofing**: The soundproofing was average, but guests were all quiet, so it wasn't a big issue. We stayed in room 505, and there was no view from the window, just a parking lot. * **Facilities**: * **Breakfast**: At 1650 yen, I was very satisfied, especially as someone who loves vegetables, because the salad bar was abundant and fresh! Serving time is from 6:30 AM to 10:00 AM. You can buy tickets directly at the front desk. The last entry time is 9:30 AM, so pay attention to that! It fully meets basic needs and is good value for money. Recommended! * I didn't notice a gym or pool, so I assume there isn't one. * The lobby lounge area has sofas, and it was decorated for Halloween, which was very pretty (see photo)! * **Highlights**: You can pick up cosmetics, lotions, makeup remover, facial cleanser, small towels, combs, and hair ties from the front desk – super convenient! You only need to bring your own makeup and eye cream. Thumbs up! * One bottle of drinking water per person per day, available for self-collection at the front desk. * **Summary**: In short, great value for money! I will definitely stay again. **A suggestion at the end**: The first thing I do when I check in is wipe everything down with an alcohol wipe. The cabinet where the safe is located was an absolute hygiene dead zone; it clearly hadn't been cleaned, with a ton of black dust. And the paper lining inside the safe was incredibly dirty. I used six wet wipes to get it somewhat clean. The hygiene in other areas was fine.

Bathroom was good. Laundry at 4th floor and around 5 dolar. There are only 4-5 machines so you might have problem on the line . Also my wise and debit card payment didnt work and l couldnt wash. They have triple rooms, which are a bit small. However, the location is very convenient, with easy access to the Kansai Airport limousine bus. It's also close to the first station on the line. The Daimaru department store is right outside on the first floor, and you can easily grab breakfast from the B1 floor. Plus, it's connected to the massive Umeda transportation hub, which is easy to navigate after a quick look. We originally planned to hire a car for 4 days, but ended up spending most of our time in Umeda and Shinsaibashi, except for our trip to Universal Studios. This hotel is perfect if you want to explore the shopping districts. For sightseeing, the subway is your best bet. On our first night, we got stuck on a train for over an hour, which was a bit of a hassle. But getting to Universal Studios by train only takes about 10 minutes. Overall, it's very convenient. Make sure to turn on the air purifier in the room. Also, their shampoo made our frizzy hair soft and manageable without making it greasy. Daimaru and Hankyu close at 8 PM, but the Lucua shopping mall behind it stays open later. The izakayas on B2 are lively. And the sashimi nearby is incredibly cheap right now!

Facilities: ✅ Has a hot spring for soaking. ❌ No facial cleanser or makeup remover. If you forget to bring your own, you'll need to go to the hot spring area to use theirs, and the elevator up and down is very slow. Hygiene: Clean, and tidied daily. New toiletries like toothbrushes are also provided every day. Environment: Decent. It's a bit far from the subway station, taking over 10 minutes to walk. Service: Quite good. They handled a sudden issue with my child very empathetically.

The Holiday Inn Osaka Namba was an excellent choice for my trip! I was so impressed with the location. It's absolutely perfect for exploring Osaka, as it is just steps away from the heart of Dotonbori and surrounded by major shopping areas. Being able to step out and immediately be in the middle of the action—from famous food stalls to department stores—made the entire trip so convenient. Furthermore, the hotel itself was wonderfully clean and well-maintained. The staff were friendly, and the room provided a comfortable and quiet retreat after busy days of sightseeing.

The hotel is in between Shinsaibashi Station and Nagahoribashi Station. The staff are polite and friendly. The room is decent size for two people, though 2 open luggages can only be done halfway open, but sti ok. There’s free hot & cold drinks at the lounge area which is open from 5am to 12mn. The buffet breakfast is nice, mostly local Japanese foods (which we like), i can say that the cereal can be considered western. 😁 There’s a family mart just 2-5mins walk. And you can also walk to Namba from the hotel. Overall, it is a good hotel choice when in Osaka.

Affordable hotel with breakfast offered, within walking distance of Namba station, in a lovely colonial looking building. Space wise, the rooms were on the bigger side for Japan standards, which is great. We appreciated the staff for accommodating our request to have 2 adjoining twin rooms and for the smooth process in accepting our luggages at the reception for our self arranged luggage delivery to our Kyoto hotel. Great stay at hotel Keihan universal tower. Very convenient to go to USJ and also universal port for ferry to aquarium kaiyukan. Hotel breakfast was good with great variety. While access to sky spa required additional payment, it was relaxing and worth it with either free icecream or beer for the price paid. They also had nice Xmas decorations and welcome gift. My kids enjoyed our stay here though I think the quality of the beds can be improved.

We booked the hotel to visit the Osaka Expo. It is really easy to get to from Shin Osaka, taking the special JR Expo Liner to Sakurajima Station, with the hotel a short walking distance away. The daily shuttle to the Expo is also a short 150-200m away. Getting to the Kansai Airport is also easy. There is a once daily limousine bus departing at 12:29 outside the hotel, or if you prefer other timings, walk towards those hotels near Universal Studios. Room is very spacious, very clean and good amenities. The public bath on Level 3 great too. Breakfast at 4400 yen is not as good as those, from Royal Park hotels at half the price. While Japanese selections are wide, Western selection is very limited. We don’t even bother to take pictures of the food as there are nothing to shout about. I

We were fortunate to book a hotel right in front of Universal Studios for this trip with our kids. The location is perfect — just a 3-minute walk to the park, with a Starbucks and Lawson right outside and plenty of dining options nearby. Although it was crowded due to summer holidays, the hotel had everything we needed and is ideal for families with young children. The room was very clean, with no unpleasant odors or smoke smell. There are also washing machines, dryers, water dispensers, and an ice machine available. Staying at a hotel so close to the park made our trip truly enjoyable!

The Mokumoku Room at this hotel is perfect for a family of three. Where there used to be two beds, there are now three tatami mats, so even if a child rolls around in their sleep at night, it won't disturb the adults, and there's no need to worry about them falling off. The best way to get here from the station is to take the small path next to Starbucks. There's a Lawson convenience store downstairs, which, although small, can meet most basic needs. To get to Universal Studios, you still have to go back to the station, or walk through another hotel, but overall, it's very convenient.

Clean facilities with good location, in between 2 subway stations (roughly 5 mins walk to either). Is also near to multiple convenience stores, including 7-Eleven and Family mart which is great for late night snacks. Also nearby are multiple restaurants that are worth the visit. The hotel offers cultural activities in the form of either takoyaki making or calligraphy on alternate days, but in the afternoon, so if you have a lazy day, you can consider. Housekeeping was great, they will clean the room daily as long as you put a notice that housekeeping is required. If you didn't, they will still provide new towels and water outside your door. Main con of the hotel - no smart TV and only Japanese channels. We ended up not using the TV at all. Service is soso, where I noted that when we came in the rain, they were drying the luggages that arrived through delivery service, but didn't assist to help with ours as we checked in, which was a bit of a downer.

First time trying out which the hotel is very near Namba station which is 5 min walking distance away. The room was pretty small which is the norm in Japan and opening a luggage is an issue but not very critical. Other than that all is good. It would have been better if there is convenience shop across or below the hotel. The nearest convenience shop will be Family mart located 2 min away directly another hotel. I booked a double room and had to keep the window closed because of the noisy exhaust fan across the street. The room has the typical Japanese hotel features – small, but clean and tidy. The front desk staff were warm and thoughtful! The hotel's location is also good, within walking distance to Umeda and Shinsaibashi! My only slight dissatisfaction was with the hotel breakfast. The hygiene wasn't great, and there wasn't much variety. On the second morning, I felt like there was leftover rice in the rice cooker, and for dishes like oden, there was a full pot on the first day, but only a small amount left at the bottom on the second morning, making it seem like leftovers from the day before. The breakfast restaurant really lowered the hotel's standard. Next time I stay here, I definitely won't add breakfast!

Daughter and I stayed a total of 7 nights in Fraser Residence Nankai Osaka. It was one of our best decisions. It's location next to Namba station was excellent. From Kansai airport, we took the airport express directly to Namba station. The hotel was just a short walk away. There were plenty of stores and eateries nearby. We were greeted by friendly staff at the reception. Narikawa san was very professional and checked us in quickly. As part of their goal to be eco friendly, for every day that we did not require room service, we were given 500yen konbini vouchers. We used them to make purchases at the Family Mart just round the corner. The room was spacious with space for our 2 large luggages. We had all the amenities we needed for our stay. Comfortable beds, washer/dryer, induction cooker, cutleries etc. Check out was at 12 noon for Fraser World members. We chose the hotel cos' it was conveniently located near the train station as we wanted to go to the Osaka expo. The rooms were ok. Housekeeping service was good. The Reception lady on our check in day (10/5 ) was not particularly friendly or helpful - perhaps she was busy. Upon check out today ( 10/7 ), however, the 2 ladies ( one from Indonesia ) were very helpful and the Japanese receptionist helped us refill our form to send our bags to Nagoya and called the receiving hotel in Nagoya to check that they will receive our bags. We are very grateful to her n I am sorry that I did not get her name but she was on duty this morning at 10.45am. Our room number was 3526. We also had a drink at the lounge bar on 20th floor on 10/6 night n it was quite nice. Overall, a nice experience at the hotel because of the Receptionist who helped us with our bags today (10/7 )and the Receptionist ( from Indonesia)who recommended us breakfast places n was very friendly and kind. 🏯 Top 5 Activities and Landmarks in Osaka

Must-see sights and museums in Osaka

More into cultural activities, museums and castles? Good news: Osaka also has some delightful surprises in store for you. Trip.com has handpicked a few standout activities:

Osaka Castle: a historic symbol of the city

Dominating the city for centuries, Osaka Castle is a must-see during your stay. If you’re travelling in spring, this masterpiece of feudal architecture is surrounded by a park where the cherry trees put on a true open-air spectacle at this time of year!

Inside, the museum traces the history of Osaka and its illustrious founder, Toyotomi Hideyoshi.

Osaka Castle Museum of History

Right next to the castle, you’ll also have the chance to visit the Osaka Museum of History. It traces the city’s evolution through the ages, offering an immersive cultural journey. With interactive exhibits and life-size models, you’ll see how Osaka came to be the economic and cultural capital of Kansai today.

Osaka Kaiyukan Aquarium: home to marine species found nowhere else on Earth

Among the world’s largest aquariums, Osaka’s Kaiyukan is undoubtedly a must-visit, especially if you’re travelling with family! What’s in store? A plunge into the depths of the Pacific Ocean with spectacular immersive displays. With whale sharks, giant rays and mesmerising jellyfish, this aquarium is sure to delight both little ones and grown-ups alike.

Universal Studios Japan: Osaka’s star attraction

How about rediscovering your inner child in Nintendo’s world? To do that, head to Universal Studios Japan, the most visited park in Japan after Tokyo Disneyland (yes, really!). Between the worlds of Harry Potter, Jurassic Park and the attractions of Super Nintendo World, it’s a must-visit for pop culture fans and anyone who loves rides, each more original than the last.

Umeda Sky Building: discover Osaka with a panoramic view

Located in the modern Umeda district, this futuristic building is one of the best places to admire Osaka from above. From its floating observatory (accessible by a panoramic lift if needed), you’ll enjoy spectacular views, especially at sunset. A perfect stop at the end of the day!

🍣 Osaka, Japan’s culinary capital

Japanese cuisine

What would a trip to Osaka be without trying its local specialities? Because yes, Osaka is best explored through its flavours, too. After all, it’s often called “Japan’s kitchen”! Locals even have a word for it: kuidaore, meaning “eat until you drop”.

Trip.com has curated the local classics and signature dishes you simply must try during your stay. Among them:

  • Takoyaki: octopus-filled batter balls, crispy on the outside, meltingly soft on the inside. A real treat!
  • Okonomiyaki: a savoury Japanese pancake topped with cabbage, meat and a sweet sauce.
  • Kushikatsu: breaded skewers typical of Shinsekai.
  • A Yakiniku: a Japanese barbecue where you grill your own food for a sociable meal
  • And of course, sushi and sashimi: to savour, for example, at Kuromon Ichiba Market, a top spot for local cuisine!

Local markets and culinary experiences not to be missed

To savour even more of Osaka’s local specialities and live like the locals, you simply can’t miss Kuromon Ichiba Market! Amid fish stalls, grilled bites and fresh fruit, it’s Osaka’s culture in a nutshell and the perfect place to sample a variety of dishes and enjoy a sociable moment together.
And for food lovers, enjoy an even more immersive experience by taking part in a Japanese cooking class. You could, for example, learn to prepare sushi or okonomiyaki like a chef!
