I had a very pleasant stay at YHA Sydney Central.
From the moment I arrived, I was warmly welcomed by Angel (the Angel!) at the front desk with a BIG radiant smile. Her helpful orientation about the hostel and surrounding area especially the super convenient Central Station just across the road made settling in easy and stress-free. I also appreciated the clear signage in the hostel which made navigation simple and intuitive.
I was thrilled to find the dual-monitor setups thoughtfully provided at every desk in the co-working space - something I have always desperately needed but never found in all of my travels across more than 20 countries. It was a huge bonus for me. I’d love to see it open beyond 11 pm. Given the area is well-secured with access card and CCTV, keeping it open 24/7 would be more user-friendly for those who struggle to focus during busy hours or for night owls working across different time zones.
Another seemingly small but thoughtful touch that made a big difference was the steam iron and ironing board provided in the laundry room. They were exactly what I needed very much since my clothes often come out wrinkled after long hours packed in suitcases.
I was also impressed by the detailed guidelines and the conveniently placed bins that encouraged timely, efficient and proper waste separation. In a world where environmental awareness is still lacking in many places, this served as a valuable education opportunity that travelers can learn from and take back to their own countries. It personally boosted my own environmental consciousness. I truly believe this is an excellent demonstration for travelers coming from different parts of the world.
My room was comfortable with a high ceiling, a tall window and a spacious locker to an extent that even a 81 cm suitcase can fit in with no difficulty. The table and chairs inside fostered a friendly and communal atmosphere which is perfect for us to unwind and share interesting stores with fellow travelers. However, both my roommates and I found the room too cold at night and it seemed that there was no temperate control options such as heating or air-conditioning. Also, the traffic noise from outside was quite loud, even on the fifth floor, and it lasted all day until midnight.
One area that really needs urgent attention is the Wi-Fi. During my brief two-day stay, the internet connection dropped frequently regardless where I was in the hostel, whether I was in my room, or on the kitchen floor, even at the front desk. A stable and reliable internet connection is essential for today’s travelers. To be honest, this was one of the most unstable, the slowest and weakest internet connections I have experienced in Australia. Thankfully, the internet connection was much better in the co-working space.
Thank you again for the warm hospitality and for creating such a welcoming space for us. I hope this review is helpful. I genuinely appreciate the effort put into maintaining such a great environment.
Location: Located in Haymarket, very close to Central Train Station and Haymarket Light Tram Station, there are bunch of restaurants and supermarkets (just within 3-10 mins walk) around the area which is very convenient for quick access to food, coffee/drinks and groceries.
Reception: Reception is very welcoming and friendly, also they provide services like help collecting letters and packages, printing services (1 copy is free yet multiple copies charge $0.2 per page), coin exchange etc. There’s a great open area in front of the reception where you can find sofas and a long workstation available for people to rest and work, the design is also very good.
Facilities: There’re a café (Roy’s Café), a bar/club (Side Bar) and a travel agency (Travel Up!) in the building, making my stay very accessible to all the things I need be it coffee or drinks or a travel advice.
Kitchen: Kitchen is on the 1/F, it’s relatively spacious. There’re 2 huge fridges and a locker wall for us to store our food. There’re total 8 stoves, 4 sinks, 3-4 microwaves, 1 oven and 1 hot water tap where you can have boiling hot water right away. All utensils are provided so that’s very convenient. Overall the kitchen area has exceeded my expectations.
Dorm area: My dorm is on the 4th floor, it’s relatively quiet. And because we’ll need our badges to access the elevator so the security is quite good as well. From the picture you can tell the dorm and hallway are clean enough, also the bathroom is very clean just I didn’t take a picture but it’s clean and comfortable. Also I love the interior design which made it looks aesthetic in a clean way. Just sometimes the dorm room might smells a little bit if your roommates bring in something smelly cuz you’re not able to open the window and the AC is not strong enough.
Laundry: There’s also a laundry room each floor, 2 washing machines ($6 each wash, if you need laundry detergent from the reception that will be another $1) and 2 dryers ($4 each use) are equipped, they are big enough to consume a lot of clothes at once which is very good. It could get quite busy at night so I suggested to set an alarm when doing your laundry if you don’t want your clothes being taken out by others.
Events: There are free / cheap events every day and every night, if you are a social person you’ll love it. All the volunteers and staff there are really welcoming and they will knock your door to give you invitations, I really love their enthusiasm! Been to wine and cheese night on a Wed night, vibes is good. So definitely recommend this hostel if you love meeting new people through events.
After it’s definitely a great stay at Wake Up! Sydney Central and I’d recommend it to people who love a vibrant hostel environment like this.
The front desk staff, Karina was very friendly and provided food suggestions as well as things to look out for when entering the Blue Mountains. The room was nice, everything was clean and orderly and it was a pleasant stay with good proximity from the Blue mountains. Thank you so much!
The public space of the youth hostel is very cozy. There is a large platform on the second floor for everyone to chat and chat. There are kitchen facilities for tenants to use. The bed in the double room with bathroom is relatively soft, the space is not too big, and it has a certain cost-effectiveness. It is more suitable for young single tourists.

Amazing location and vibe of the hostel. Located close to Darling harbour and walking distance from majors CBD sites. Highly recommend for keen adventurers looking to roam about the city with additional transport time!
Loved this place! Super clean (way cleaner than I expected for a hostel!) and I loved the vibe. Self check-in is super easy, and the app is awesome — discounts plus your room key right on your phone. The rooftop is a gem for drinks and sunsets 🌅.
The location is unbeatable — honestly 100/10. Only 15 minutes’ walk to the Opera House, close to trains, trams, buses, and ferries. Lots of restaurants and shops around, and there’s even a little convenience store right next door. If you don’t like stairs, you can just walk around the corner and go up the hill instead.

The hostel was clean. bathrooms were clean. It was great to have the elevator and very stable wifi.
Good to have a curtain for each bed as to keep privacy, if i were to point out one thing to improve, the door was too heavy that everyone from the room was letting the door closed loudly, it would be great if front desk or any notice could remind travelers to be aware of that.
After all it was a pleasant stay and I enjoyed the activity Pacific house provided. Thank you!
This is an almost perfect hostel, for sure one of the best I've ever been! Great staff, really good breakfast included, billard pool and couches plus the various activities (as well as possible bike, Beachvolleyball etc rental for free!) make it easy to connect quickly. Also, the beds are very comfortable amf the curtain provides some privacy too.
Only point for improvement: an air condition in the room would be great. But the Ventilator worked fairly well too.
The location is really good. It’s right next to the central station and also has a tram stop right in front of it. The bed was comfy. The bathroom is a little bit too small. There is only one toilet and two shower room on my floor so it is bit packed in the morning.

GGuest UserThe overall stay experience of this hotel is very good. First of all, the hotel is in a prime location, close to major attractions, with convenient transportation and very convenient travel. The front desk service is warm and friendly, and the check-in procedure is quick, which leaves a good first impression.
The room is well-equipped, clean and tidy, and the bed is comfortable, which can ensure good sleep quality. Both the bathroom equipment and the air-conditioning system work well, providing a satisfactory living experience. The hotel's breakfast is rich in variety and delicious, which makes the whole day full of energy.
GGuest UserIt was the last place available during the Christmas break while we passed through as our original plans fell through and while it was the least expensive option, we got what we paid for (plus the traditional Christmas period tax)
- Positives -
The service we got was great - it was a simple here is my name - there is your key - Just what I like.
The pool was small but popular with the families there and there as well as lots of people outside of their units having great chats with their neighbours.
The water was hot and while you could tell when other rooms turned their showers on, the pressure dropped a little but the heat stayed consistent.
the rooms were clean and did not smell of cigarettes although there was an ashtray outside our window
- Negatives -
The AC was probably a late 80's early 90's model and is in desperate need of an upgrade - Sadly it was a really hot night and while the AC was a cool savior in the night, the price we paid was a front seat to an industrial engine droning all night long. I have been to Rock gigs that were quieter than the volume of the AC - But even when I cracked it and turned it off, you could still clearly hear the neighbours jet engines preparing for take-off next door. To say I had a restful sleep would be a lie.
The Windowframe in the bathroom was rotted away
There was no stopper/gasket in the sink, to which my toothbrush was an unfortunate victim - Swallowed up and delivered to the bin.
With that said - we got what we paid for. If you are looking for cost-effective accomodation close to the centre of Bega I would 100% recommend you stay here if its not going to be a really hot/cold night. If you have a few coins extra I'd check out other accommodation and check if they had a more modern split-system. It might give you the 8hrs you so desperately seek!
GGuest UserI requested some special request like room in the upstairs and for microwave to the hotel fron trip app. The receptionist mentioned there is no request she can read. She was trying to give room in the ground floor. My request was fulfilled the next day but was unexpected. Overall the room is really nice and service too.
PPo KwongThis is my first time at the original backpacker.
Answer my phone call when I was late check-in, the guy was very polite.
Reception - very friendly and helpful show me around.
Location - convenience at King Cross with 2 supermarkets, food shop, shopping centre.
Friendly roommates with all women.
Other backpackers are very respectful. No noise after midnight.
I'll be back😊
GGuest UserWhat a little gem. We had a friends catch up and stayed here. It's so close to everything. 1 block from the Palm beach ferry, 2 blocks from Ettalong shopping centre. The room was clean and tidy with the usual inclusions of microwave toaster jug, tea and coffee. The beds were very comfortable and the linen was good quality with several pillows so you can choose the one that's right for you. The bathroom is a bit old fashioned, however the shower had plenty of hot water. The accommodation is within the Galleria, a Greek / Italian inspired complex hosting lots of small shops, boutiques, restaurants, galleries, beautiful nick nacks and treasures, cafes and even a hat shop. The complex has it's own movie cinema. After booking in we went to bar Toto. Very fitting with the theme of a bygone era. Comfy old style lounge chairs, dimly lit, old movies on the big screen and great cocktails, however there are several other options if this isn't your scene. We chose to have breakfast at one of the cafe's within the complex. Very good crepes and coffee, then spent some time looking at the many and varied shops. Eric's hat shop is a must. He is so knowledgeable and friendly. He can explain the process of making hats and show you some of the tools used to make hats. It was so much fun trying on hats and taking photos. We grabbed lunch, pizzas and noodles which were both very good, and sat enjoying the live music in the centre of the complex. If you feel like a stroll, there's a concrete walking path along the waterfront from the ferry to Umina. Once you have parked your car, you really don't need to start it again until you are leaving. Enjoy.
GGuest UserThis is a motel hotel. It is clean and has a double bed. However, the freezer door in the refrigerator is broken. It is not cleaned every day. The service attitude is good. There was a short circuit when cooking in the room. The management staff solved it immediately without criticism. The biggest advantage is that it is cheap and close to the town train station, but it is more than 90 kilometers away from Canberra, so travel efficiency is not high. Generally tourists to Canberra should rarely stay at this hotel. The reason why I stayed here was because I couldn't find a hotel with a suitable price in Canberra.
