We stayed at the City Center Hotel for two nights. There is an eclectic interior, comfortable lobby and on one of the lobby tables there is a large jar of candy which has some delicious licorice toffee for the taking. Check-in and out was easy, smooth and both the receptionists were extremely friendly and talkative. Baktus, who has his own Instagram account lives there… just another adorable resident Reykjavik cat! Our room was on the fifth floor and there was a small lift or you could take the stairs. Our room had a king sized, comfortable bed. The balcony was small and lovely and there were dark curtains to block out the sun in the morning. There was also a small refrigerator kind of funky-cool as it looked like a wine cooler. Plenty of towels, soap, shampoo and a hairdryer. There is no closet but a clothes rack to hang coats or clothes. Centrally located there are a multitude of restaurants around; we ate at the Laundromat Cafe one night. There is also a small grocery store across the tiny park at the end of the street which had vegan sandwiches and other goodies. Also, the hotel is within walking distance of Bus Stop #1 ( City Hall) and Bus Stop #3 ( outside of Hard Rock Cafe) which made it super simple to catch excursion busses or the bus back to BSI bus station and on to the Keflavik airport. Would stay here again-

This hotel is the perfect location for a visit to Reykjavik. The main shopping street and many restaurants are within walking distance, as well as the old wharf where the whale watching ships are located. The staff was great, the coffee house excellent. Make sure to get a superior room; the second time we stayed we were not given that type of room and it was smaller and on the noisier side of the hotel. On the weekends, the bars close at 4:30 am, so there is much partying going on!

We had a lovely stay! It may not be for the budget-minded (this is Iceland after all - everything is expensive), but the hotel makes up for it in other ways. It has a great location in the center of town, close to the waterfront and many fine restaurants & bars. The front desk staff was very helpful, as they assisted us with booking a day tour of the Golden Circle, along with other small requests. The breakfast room is large and well-staffed, serving a wide variety of traditional breakfast items, as well as a few Icelandic specialties. the room was clean, quiet, and well-appointed. The shower may pose a problem for some larger people, but perhaps that was just our room. We would not hesitate to stay here again.

We stayed here a couple of nights in early September for a pre-cruise stay. Clean, comfortable (we opted for the slightly larger room) and a great location near the waterfront area and walking distance to the old town part of Reykjavit. They accommodated an early arrival due to our flight schedule, which was appreciated. There is a connected cafe and coffee bar which was very convenient. There are some off-site parking garages (rented a car) which are OK, but a little expensive and if it is raining, not real convenient. They said they had storage lockers, but because they provided an early check-in, we did not need them, so I am not sure if they are on-site or not - if they are the ones in the parking structure, they are definitely not sufficient. Although we do not see us returning soon, if we did, we would definitely stay here again.

Good location, good parking, good hotel with nice environment and rooms. Service at reception is very busy and lacking help. Toilets are spacious but bathtub in my room cannot be filled up. Hairdryer is provided as well and slippers and free coffee machine in the room.

This hotel is in the perfect location. Bus stop no9 outside where all the trips pick up/drop off. Lovely self service breakfast with plenty of choice. Lovely, warm and cosy environment, when you come in from the cold. Our room 417 was very quiet and had a balcony. Room temperature is adjustable, which is good depending on weather. Very quiet location.

This hotel has a lot going for it, but it's held back by the fit and finish of many of the hotel's spaces. Overall, the hotel just feels dated. The red carpet in all of the halls is faded and stained, the wood floor in the room had a lot of damage, and the spa is way past its prime. On a positive note, the furniture in the room has been updated recently and the pieces were nice plus I found the bed to be very comfortable. Also, breakfast was really good! The service at the hotel was also great. But that spa, ugh. It's a perk of being a gold/diamond member, but the spa is just not in good condition. Most urgently, something needs to be done about the steam room, it smelled awful while we were there and even made other parts of the spa smell. But overall, the spa was just not in good shape with damage everywhere. Also, the location of this hotel isn't great if you're looking to explore Reykjavik but, if like us, you want somewhere with free parking for you to explore the rest of Iceland, then this is a great location for you.

A very good experience, the hotel has a sense of design, is exquisite and clean. The front desk staff are very welcoming and friendly. In particular, the Chinese lady at the front desk was patient and polite, spoke Mandarin very well, and helped us solve many problems. I would like to express my special thanks to her. The bedding is also very comfortable. It can be said to be the best among the many hotels we have stayed in during our trip to Northern Europe. Highly recommend this hotel

A good little hostel with the front staff being very friendly. This hostel is not at BSI bus station which is where fly bus airport transfers arrive and depart. It is a 15 minute walk from BSI bus station, but there are many tour buses that stop here. The kitchen and bathrooms were always very clean and you could see someone always mopping or cleaning. The room was very hot so pack light Pyjamas. Also there are no women only dorms!!! I thought I was booking a women only dormitory but men were in there too. One man had booked a man only dorm but obviously they don't have this either. The website and the trip.com descriptions clearly need udpating.

Although the room is small, rooms in Iceland are similar. Overall it is relatively clean. It is very close to small shops such as churches and supermarkets. There is the sea on one side and the church on the other. The lady at the front desk is very attentive. Suddenly the alarm bell rang in the middle of the night and people ran out. The corridor will be fine after a while

My daughter and I returned to Guesthouse Sunna the first week of March 2024 for our fourth stay with them. For us, casual tourists, the location is ideal. It is across the street from the Hallgrimskirkja, the tall church that sits at the top of the hill and overlooks all of Reykjavik. There are outstanding restaurants within a couple of blocks. Bus Stop #8 is across the street from the Guesthouse. Inside the rooms are modern, roomy and clean. The rooms are grouped in “quads,” with a WC, shower, and kitchenette for each group of three or four rooms. The beds have always been comfortable. Breakfast is available for an extra charge, and includes bread freshly baked on the premises.

CCarrieIt's a very satisfactory hotel. The only bad thing is that the receptionist is a bit racist. It is said that we arrived at the hotel at 12 noon, and then we asked the front desk if we could enter the room early? She said we have to wait until 3 o'clock, and there is no room for us now. We accepted what she heard, and went out to have lunch. When we came back from lunch, we asked her again. It was already 2 o'clock, and she still said there was no room for us, so we would sit down. While waiting on the sofa there, there was a foreign couple who also came to stay, and she immediately gave them a room. My companion was very angry when she saw us. When she saw us, she was embarrassed and asked us to take the key and enter the room. I think this kind of service attitude really brings down the price of such a good hotel.

GGuest UserHotel was clean, and overall nice. Free breakfast was very nice and had a wide range of food (bread, yogurt + toppings, make your own waffles, beans, eggs, coffee & tea); there is also a communal fridge on the 2nd floor. However, a few VERY IMPORTANT things to know regarding this hotel being self-service: 1. You are supposed to receive an entry code to get into the hotel 24-48 hours before arrival. We did not know this as we had booked through a credit card rewards program. We arrived to the hotel through the parking structure and were met with a key pad and a sign saying that all guests should have a code in their email. We called two numbers for the hotel and could not reach anyone - so we just called constantly and sat outside the building door for ~30-45 minutes. Finally some guests left and held the door open for us so we were able to be in the lobby. It was around 6pm which is when the bar opens up, so we were finally able to find a staff member who helped us. Our credit card company also finally got in touch with someone and we received our email with the code. So FYI - if you have not received a code within 24 hours, make sure you reach out so you have time to get into contact with the hotel as they do not appear to answer their phones all the time (email may be more effective). 2. The parking structure is difficult to park in - it is an underground structure, so just be prepared to park in a slightly tight space. However, the parking structure leads directly into the hotel which was very nice! 3. As it is a self-service hotel, we were having trouble opening and closing our door (we couldn't get it to lock). We were able to ask the man tending to the bar for help; but he was only able to do a temporary fix; I feel at a non-self service hotel we may have been able to get a different room with an appropriately functioning door. We just had to use lots of strength and make lots of noise to slam the door shut to lock it - not the biggest deal, but just a small note. 4. Just an FYI that this location is not in the city center of Reykjavik (you would have to drive or take the bus to get to the city center). This place is more residential, with grocery stores (which we went to) etc. We had stayed in a hotel in the city center earlier in the trip; and this was a very different spot of Reykjavik. Just FYI that Reykjavik is massive! Overall nice, clean hotel - but the self-service aspect does have its pros and cons (you just don't have the 24/7 support you might have at another hotel when little things go wrong etc.).

Very Good
GGuest UserCheck-in was pretty smooth. I was allocated the room just above the main entrance as such, it can be quite noisy whenever people get in or out of the hostel with the door slamming and some vibration felt! The bathroom and wc are fairly clean and tidy. Very cosy common area to mingle and make new friends. Kitchen has all the basic necessity. I especially like the small area right outside my room where i can have a light meal and nice view of the surroundings. Bought the unlimited bus rides ticket via the Klappid app for travel within the Reykjavik capital city and bus svc 12 is just few steps away. If time permits, you can even walk to the coastal area for sight-seeing. Overall, i am very satisfied with my 8 nights stay at Laekur hostel!

SStefanI can absolutely sympathise with people who struggle to get in and check in to this hotel. When you book through a 3rd party app, you do not receive your room number or entry code. The check-in process is then an adventure of trying to shout into a tablet near the front door, for a call that lasts maximum 2 minutes before it disconnects and you have to try again. The layout is… odd… to say the least, but if you follow the signs you can eventually end up at your room (if you find some of the doors that work, not all do). The maintenance person who broke into our room while we were out forgot to lock the door, so we were at risk of all of our things being stolen, which wasn’t ideal. The room itself was nice, location is good and as long as you don’t need anything, you are getting what you pay for.

GGuest UserGreat location for shopping on the way to the main attractions of the (very walkable) city. On arrival staff provided us with clear directions for our first day of touring. The room was very comfortable and our request for a quiet courtyard room was granted. Breakfast was outstanding as were all our interactions with staff, including the booking of our bus ride to KEF airport when we departed. Recommended,

JJingxuanziThe location of the hotel is very good. First of all, across the road from the hotel is the main street of Iceland. All the shops are concentrated in this area. The urban attractions, such as the cathedral, the presidential palace, and the concert hall, can all be reached on foot. There is a 24-hour convenience store next to the hotel, where you can buy food and drink 24 hours a day. The hotel is clean and quiet. Don't worry about not having enough bathrooms. There are three bathrooms on the first floor, which are completely sufficient. There is no one at the front desk. You need to press the door horn and he will open the door for you and tell you which room you are in. Just go into the room directly. The room key is on the table.

What travellers say about Reykjavik attractions

Discover these places worth visiting in Reykjavik and select a hotel nearby for ultimate convenience

Hallgrimskirkja

徐徐霞客RrHallgrímskirkja Cathedral in Iceland is a very monumental church. From the outside, it looks very simple and elegant. According to the locals, this church was built for about half a century.

Aurora Reykjavík - The Northern Lights Center

徐徐霞客RrThe Northern Lights Center in Reykjavik, Iceland. According to the locals, this place is an aurora viewing center established by four young people. The most important thing to do when going to Iceland is to chase the aurora. This place is in a great location to watch the laser-shaped aurora.

Harpa Concert Hall and Conference Centre

SsculptorThe Harpa Concert Hall is located in the center of Reykjavik, Iceland's capital. The glass building is not very conspicuous from the outside, but it is very distinctive from the inside, with elegant lines and abstractions.

Reykjavík's City Hall

徐徐霞客RrThis place is very interesting. It is located around the Blue Lagoon in Iceland. If you go there, you can call four or more people to form a group to play, because it will feel boring if there are fewer people? It will be particularly exciting if there are more people, and the fee is relatively affordable.

National Museum of Iceland

雨涵1688You can check the ticket on the spot when you buy it on Ctrip.com, which is very convenient. You can scan the code to listen to the explanation by voice. There is WiFi, and it is very good! If you have enough time, it is recommended to walk slowly. There is Canshi on the first floor. The coffee is very fragrant.

Perlan

EelmmPerlan is a beautiful musuem, perfect for a leisure day in Reykjavik. If you only visit one attraction in reykjavik, it has to be perlan. (you can skip aurora reykjavik and lava show) We took the bus 18 to ‘perlan’ bus stop where we walked through a little garden. there was a lot of people on a rainy tuesday afternoon. we easily spent about 3 hours there: watch shows about volcano and aurora, enter ice cave & learn about iceland’s geology. Apparently the restaurant rotates around in the dome, but we didn’t have time to try.

Laugavegur

小小鱼的麻薯片The taste is pure and unique, the environment is clean and the service is thoughtful and enthusiastic

Lake Tjornin

火山Lake Thorning is an important tourist attraction in the capital of Iceland and is worth visiting. The lake is close to the City Hall, so you can visit the City Hall as well. There are many colorful houses by the lake. There are swans, ducks and birds in the lake, which attracts many tourists, especially children. You can interact and play with the seabirds and feed them, which is fun. There are also unique European-style buildings with pointed roofs and unique bridges by the lake. There is also an interesting statue standing here. His upper body is a huge square-shaped stone, and his lower body is a man carrying a briefcase 💼, which can be interpreted as modern urban office workers working hard for life and work... It’s nice to stroll by the lake with a cool breeze and enjoy the vast lake view!

Whales of Iceland

MMikhail MishaIceland is located in the center of the North Atlantic, and the importance of geographical location is self-evident. This most Nordic-style metal sculpture in the center of Reykjavik, which shows Iceland's national style and fishing industry, one of the pillars of the economy, is a national symbol!
