The George Hotel Easingwold

Easingwold|0.18km from city centre
We stayed here for a one night pre-Christmas trip with our adult daughters. Overall it was a very enjoyable and positive experience. All four of us were happy with our evening meals, two courses each, and were very satisfied that dietary requirements (vegan) had been met as previously requested. We were very nicely situated at the front bay window, looking out at the market place. Service throughout was pleasant and efficient, the only slight issue was that the starters arrived before our initial drinks. Service at breakfast was also very pleasant, and offered a great selection of food. Of our two different bedrooms, one (10) felt to be recently refurbished, our own however (4) did feel somewhat tired and dated, with some minor issues of maintenance (bathroom shelf and toilet flush handle). All the beds were comfortable, if a little soft, and with spotless sheets. Our shower was very effective, but the girls' took a long while to give out hot water. Arrival was a little frenetic, with a very busy bar and no obvious point to report in, but were were quickly attended to by the accommodation manager. We were shown to our room by one of the bar staff, and were disappointed to find that our room had not been pre-heated, and we had to work out for ourselves how to operate the bathroom heater. The other room however was warm on arrival. Our memorable and enjoyable visit was enhanced of course by being in Easingwold, one of our favourite towns in England, particularly at this festive season, when we were happy to patronise other local businesses, both cafes and shops.

The Greyhound Inn
4.6/549 Reviews
We stayed at The Greyhound Inn for 2 nights. The room we had was dog friendly, very large, clean and everything we needed for a short stay. The bar is very dog friendly and our 2 greyhounds were made to feel very welcome. The food was really good tasty bar food including tasty homemade chips and mushy peas with my scampi. Breakfasts were delicious too. Absolutely perfect location and Steve is a brilliant host, he told us about some lovely villages and walks and this literally made our stay in Yorkshire!
Wainstones Hotel

This was the worst place I have ever stayed at. Had a 2 night stay over Easter. Greeting at reception not particularly friendly. I refused the first room (9) due to kitchen extractor vents outside window and awful mattress. Room 2 was better. However there were holes in the valance sheets on both beds. Bathroom in need of re-grouting. Needed a good hoovering. Almost cold water for shower on first morning. Breakfast was an experience.. no help yourself buffet .. everything brought to the table, felt as if food was restricted to save money. Waitress very unfriendly. Evening meal I chose fish which was supposed to be served with dauphinoise potatoes it came with what can only be described as a potato cake (much like a fish cake) mixed with a few vegetables and deep fried. The accompanying tenderstem broccoli was raw. Frying everything seemed to be the order of the day. The interior of the main part of the hotel was very dark and dingy and in need of a massive overhaul. Even the appearance from the outside is not very good - I didn't want to check in and even drove off again after initially pulling into the car park! Don't be fooled by the picture on the website. I can recommend the pub a few hundred yards up the road for excellent food and service and a very friendly atmosphere. On the plus side, the village is very nice with 2 more pubs. Stay here at your peril.

Royal Oak Hotel
4.1/523 Reviews
We had a lovely four days at the Royal Oak in Great Ayton. All the staff were kind and helpful. The bedroom was clean, bright and comfortable. We had delicious dinners on three of the nights and another excellent meal at their sister pub The Buck on the last night. Nice breakfast with quality ingredients and really good coffee. When staying at Great Ayton, be sure to taste the best ice cream at Suggitt’s and fine pies at Petch the butcher!
