Johannesburg Marriott Hotel Melrose Arch

Johannesburg|0.96km from Railway Museum
On Saturday 16 Dec 2023 my entire family decided to go to The Marriot for breakfast and we planned on using our Prokard to qualify for their dining discount. We have been to the Marriot on numerous occasions over the last 4 years and we had no problems using our Prokard and getting the applicable dining discount. Tembi the restaurant manager stopped us all at the entrance of the restaurant and was adamant that we couldn't use our prokard ....then it was an excuse that there were no tables available when there were plenty available. Her attitude was disgusting and made excuse after excuse......another being that The Marriot is a new hotel and that they were still finding their feet which was not true. My family was so upset with the backwards and forward arguing that we did not enjoy our breakfast which was meant to be a family outing. I also overheard other guests complaining about not being able to use the Prokard ......she also told us that it cannot be used over the holidays.......she made so many contradictory excuses. I had called on the Monday before (11 Dec ) and spoke to Daniel ( the services manager ) and he confirmed that all the benefits for dining is as per all Marriot hotels and that we are welcome to come on the Saturday. I spoke to Daniel on Monday ( 18 Dec) to complain of what we experienced on Saturday and he passed it onto Razeen ( another manager) who didn't have the decency to call me with an apology and confirm what the rules are wrt Prokard benefits. My advice to Prokard members ......keep away from The Marriot as they are not so professional and sophisticated as they profess to be and rather patronize the other Protea hotels. YTF Review: Disclaimer: Our reviews are solely based on our experiences, not on other readers' experiences or influenced by other readers or entities. You will rarely read ”like other reviewers…” from our posts since we practice not to read reviews and visit with virgin eyes untainted by what others may have experienced. Overview: Located in the heart of Johannesburg, The African Pride Melrose Arch is a luxury boutique hotel in the vibrant Melrose Arch district. The hotel has spacious rooms, a rooftop pool, and a bar. They have various dining options, including their signature restaurant (Aduna Bistro). The location of APM allows you to start your exploration of JoBerg easily. Staff: 5/5 The African Pride Melrose Arch Hotel (APM) staff were incredibly welcoming and helpful. They made us feel right at home from the moment we arrived. Welcome drinks, smiles, professionalism, and a great source for local information. All staff members were amazing. Special acknowledgments to Pretty and Mr. D!!! Also, a special shout-out to the lady who delivered the birthday gift to our room. Sorry, we never exchanged names! You know who you are! 😊 Staff makes your hotel; somehow, The African Pride got it right with their entire team. Hotel Room: 4/5 The rooms at the hotel are spacious and beautifully appointed. They have all the amenities you could possibly need, and the bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was clean, well-lit and spacious. The Pride, though kept well, was slightly dated. There should be some type of assessment of each room so that they are able to keep its mystique intact (it’s time to get rid of every DVD player in your hotel… It's ok, no one will notice) Hotel Grounds: 5/5 It’s situated in Melrose, so the hotel grounds are also part of the Melrose in a way though they do have a pool area, which is spectacular. They also have an amazing restaurant attached to them where you can pick up an amazing breakfast before starting your journey touring the sites in Joburg. Location: 5/5 The location in Melrose Arch is a huge plus. Plenty of shops, restaurants, and cafes are within walking distance, so you'll never run out of things to do. Conclusion: 4.75/5 I highly recommend the African Pride Melrose Arch Hotel to anyone looking for a luxurious and convenient stay in Johannesburg. You will surely enjoy your stay while you visit JoBerg. Things to be aware of: Power issues plague the entire country. Places like African Pride have backup generators to assist with making your experience more enjoyable. When you have temporary blackouts, it is because the generator is assisting to maintain power to the entire building. Anyone who blames APM for power issues should be more aware of the countries they visit. APM doesn’t appear to have a fitness Gym on site, but you have access to a nearby gym, which is from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m., I believe ( I could be wrong). Go to the front desk. They will provide you with access to the facilities and the locati

Davinci Hotel on Nelson Mandela Square

Sandton|2.82km from Railway Museum
Very disappointed after our stay at The DaVinci Hotel. I was thoroughly looking forward to this stay as I have not stayed in this hotel before and it had been on my list, check in took quite long, which didn't bother me initially but ended up being a compounding factor after everything else, we had booked online and it took close to an hour for us to get checked in and given our room key, we used this time to look around. When we finally got to our room, we quickly left everything and went to the mall then had dinner, we got back relatively late and only upon getting back did we notice the bed was 2 single beds pushed together, however we booked and paid for a delux king room, needless to say I spent the duration of the evening falling through the 2 beds as I was trying to cuddle my lady, so I didn't get much sleep to say the least. When we got up in the morning I quite badly needed a coffee to wake me up after the night I had and Lo and behold, the coffee machine was not working! By this point you can imagine the frustration.. so we got dressed and went down for breakfast, the process of simply getting a coffee took close to 40 minutes, let alone the food arriving! We actually ended up getting up and leaving because we had plans for the day and did not expect to wait over an hour for our breakfast to arrive! The cold food that was available at the buffet was very dry as well but we scoffed it down and went on our way, it was only while we were walking out that the juice we ordered when we arrived was beginning to make its way to our table, so we were given the bottle and we went on our way We mentioned the incorrect room as well as the coffee machine to the lady at the checkout desk, to which I was reassured that next time we stay it will be nice I can very confidently confirm that there will not be a next time from us, as we do expect a certain service when checking into a 5 star hotel and paying the price that comes along with it On a positive note, the concierge was helpful with taking our luggage to the room Such a pity for a lovely perfectly located place to put such little effort into the quality they provide

The carpet in the room was wet due to the rain. The sheets were not clean, they still had make up stains from previous guests. You can hear noises from your neighbours and also noise when they use water facilities I.e showers and toilets
The Capital on the Park

Located in Sandown, at the heart of Sandton meant traveling around the district was convenient and time-saving so it’s great if you want the best of everything in Johannesburg. The hotel is relatively new and very clean, they seem to adhere to high hygiene standards and their rooms are fresh and well stocked. They have a fantastic pool and jacuzzi area and this was where I enjoyed spending most of my time, just wish there wasn’t an obvious fence immediately after the infinity pool as I feel this defeats the purpose. Not a place I recommend for high-profile guests simply because coming and going was too easy and there wasn’t much privacy outside of the room. The breakfast buffet as well as the food menu were quite a disappointment except for their steaks and cocktails: the breakfast range was limited so forking R240 pp each day felt like a rip-off. The service was generally incredible, with warm and friendly staff ready to greet you at every corner.

I had a great experience with them. Free shuttle service to Sandton city, their quick intercoms response. Every where is so clean and their staff are so polite, friendly and competent. I’ll rate everything 💯. They beat my expectations and made my holiday experience in South Africa so stress free and Fun. I’m going back in December.
Mint Hotel 84 on Katherine

The Mint Hotel 84 gets the basics right with clean, comfortable rooms and friendly service staff. My room was a standard double with a queen bed, it had everything I needed including a desk, coffee maker, and good water pressure in the shower. The bed was fairly comfortable and the room was cleaned promptly every day. The breakfast spread in the dining area had a variety of options including cereals, toast, fruit, pastries, and eggs. The food was of average quality and freshness, nothing exceptional but sufficient to start the day. The service staff at the front desk and concierge were pleasant, helpful, and efficient whenever I had questions. They provided recommendations for restaurants and attractions in the area. The hotel has an outdoor pool and fitness centre, although I did not use the fitness centre during my stay. The hallways and public areas were well maintained and clean. Overall, the Mint Hotel 84 provides good, no-frills accommodations in a convenient location for exploring Katherine. The price point is fair for the quality you get, making it a solid choice for standard business or leisure travel.
The Peech Hotel
4.6/548 Reviews
Our stay at The Peech was more than just a comfortable stopover; it was the perfect launchpad for our beach-hopping adventure (we were headed to Mozambique Southern Beaches so we had to fly into Vilankulos via Johannesburg for a night) and whether you're flying via Joburg (like us) or seeking a tranquil escape, this gem of a hotel offers everything you need and more. The spacious and tastefully decorated rooms provided a sanctuary after a day of exploration ( read shopping 😊). The room and bathroom was a luxurious haven, adding to the overall ambiance of relaxation and comfort. Yet, what truly sets The Peech apart is its exceptional staff. Their warmth and thoughtfulness were evident in every interaction, as they anticipated our every need with care and attention to detail, from Ben, our lovely driver upon arrival, to the porter on our departure. Each member of the team seemed to embody the ethos of hospitality, making us feel not just like guests, but like valued friends. In conclusion, The Peech isn't just a hotel; it's a destination in itself—a place where comfort, culinary delights (our dinner was a mouth watering rumps steak grilled to perfection), and amazing service meet to create an experience that stays with you long after check-out.
