The first time I came to Lhasa, I chose this place after comparing many hotels. The stay experience exceeded expectations. The whole trip was particularly comfortable because of this hotel. Lhasa is high in altitude and dry in climate. It is easy to not adapt to the beginning. This hotel really understands the needs of highland tourists. The details are very intimate and make people feel warm. The overall environment of the hotel is clean and tidy, the public areas are clean and atmospheric, and there is no smell. The room hygiene is impeccable, the bedding is soft and clean, one guest is changed, the bathroom is separated from wet and dry, the washing area is clean and transparent, and the corner hygiene is very meticulous, which is very safe for tourists with cleanliness. The room is well lit and ventilated, the overall atmosphere is quiet and comfortable, the rest at night will not be disturbed at all, and the quality of sleep is particularly good. The most surprising thing is the exclusive service of the hotel's plateau. In response to the dry climate in Lhasa, the hotel prepared moisturizing supplies, which perfectly relieved the problem of dry skin and dry mouth and nose. At the same time, the oxygen supply service is very practical. When you first arrive at the plateau, you can feel dizzy and weak. Moderate oxygen supply can very well relieve high anti-discomfort. It is very friendly and safe for tourists who enter Tibet for the first time. The hotel is not far from the Potala Palace. The parking lot is large, there's a night market nearby, and a large supermarket is right next door, which is very convenient. The front desk staff were friendly and professional, check-in was quick, and they even proactively upgraded my room. They patiently answered all my questions about local sightseeing. The room was meticulously cleaned, even the corner of the bathroom was spotless. The room wasn't facing the street, so it was very quiet. The bathroom had a separate shower and toilet! Highly recommended!

Traveling with family, I booked two rooms separately and the hotel was very helpful in coordinating them so we could be close to each other. Their response was quick, and the service was good; it was easy to get help from the front desk even in the middle of the night. The environment was clean and tidy. Highly recommend!

The room facilities were quite good, but the service attitude was very poor, which significantly lowered the overall experience. Pros: The room facilities were relatively new, with a desk and office chair, a small sofa, and convenient amenities like a microwave. Aside from a tear in the carpet, the cleanliness was acceptable. The breakfast offered a good variety, though it was quite crowded. Cons: While one can't expect too much service at this price point and positioning, it's arguably the worst service in its class! Even budget-friendly chains like HUAZHU (Huazhu Group) feel lightyears ahead. Several points of dissatisfaction: Upon check-in, there was a queue, and three people behind the counter seemed to be struggling with something. I waited behind them for a while, and no one acknowledged a new guest had arrived or came over to help. After a long time, I saw someone move to the side, so I approached. Still, no one asked if I was checking in. I walked over and asked if the previous guest was finished, and only then, after being given a look that said 'What are you doing here?', did they start processing my check-in. After taking my ID, they immediately moved to a separate counter (a clearly distinct spot) without telling me to move there. I had to awkwardly move myself. They only provided basic breakfast times for my check-in information and didn't mention anything about the complimentary drinks included in my reservation, which I didn't need anyway so I didn't ask later. The window of my room faced a fence with cigarette butts and other trash scattered below. It was arguably worse than the interior of the room, but it was a basic room type, and a view wasn't a selling point, so I didn't pay too much attention. During check-out, after returning the room card, it took a moment to confirm. No one said 'please wait' or anything, so I just awkwardly stood there. As I left, I said 'thank you,' and was ignored without even a glance. It's clear that the staff here has almost no service awareness. Perhaps this hotel is very confident in its hardware and brand power and isn't too concerned about customer feelings and feedback. However, as a traveler, especially as the last hotel on a self-driving trip along the Sichuan-Tibet highway, it was very disappointing. Almost every other hotel on this trip, expensive or cheap, despite some flaws, had a far better service attitude than this one.

The hotel isn't to far from the Portola Palace (a short taxi trip). I wouldn't say its a true 4 star hotel. The room was a good size, quiet and didn't smell of cigarette smoke. The room was a little worn out; I couldn't get the TV to work, the mirror on the wet bar area was cracked, there were marks to the walls where paintings/pictures had once been. Most annoying was the shower cubicle and the shower over the bath had only cold water! On my last morning the power was off in my area of the hotel and the lift was not working due to the power outage. The hotel staff do not speak English, but one lady working on reception was especially nice and helpful and we were able to communicate by using the translation app. There are lots of restaurants near by, but next time I think I'd prefer to stay closer to the Portola Palace.

The next morning, the doorbell rang gently. I opened the door and found that it was the girl at the front desk who personally brought the breakfast tray, which was filled with porridge, side dishes and steaming sweet tea. ”I was afraid you might feel uncomfortable, so I sent it directly to you,” she said softly, ”Just tell us if you need anything.” Every day after that, I could always hear a gentle knock on the door at a fixed time. Sometimes it was fresh fruit, and every time it was accompanied by warm greetings. Before leaving, the girl at the front desk specially wrote down my return time and helped me call a car in advance. She stood at the door of the lobby with concern in her eyes. At that moment, I suddenly realized that real service is not about form, but about caring from the heart. The bedding is soft and clean, ensuring a good night's sleep. The ambient lighting by the bedside is exquisite, complemented by paintings of plateau scenery, creating a truly immersive atmosphere. The room is fully equipped with a large-screen TV, desk, and chair, perfect for relaxation or light work. The bathroom has an excellent separation of wet and dry areas, is spotless and odor-free, and features a smart toilet, large overhead shower, illuminated vanity mirror, and hairdryer. The bathroom's decor is high-end and elegant, and it was meticulously cleaned, leaving no corner untouched. The front desk staff were warm, attentive, and friendly, making my stay comfortable and pleasant. The accommodation in the high-altitude area was clean, hygienic, and not damp. The overall experience far exceeded my expectations, and the price-performance ratio was excellent. You can't go wrong with this place when you travel to Lhasa. Many people, myself included, often debate between the St. Regis and the Shangri-La, as both hotels in Beijing are quite unremarkable. Ultimately, I chose the Shangri-La for its value for money. I had considered Songtsam too, but common sense told me to be a smart spender. Although the hotel shows its age, its architectural style is grand and refined, revealing luxurious material choices. Time has inevitably left its mark, but a classic car, even when old, is still a classic car. Moreover, service and quality require time to accumulate and withstand market scrutiny. While the Shangri-La may not have many existing locations, it still holds a strong market advantage, and it takes an discerning eye to appreciate it. My butler, Bowen, arranged my room before I even arrived. Looking out the window at the Potala Palace's silhouette in the distance immediately set the mood. He then meticulously delivered on all aspects of my package. I found Bowen to be a man of few words but very steady, highly responsive, and an exceptionally smooth driver. He never asked inappropriate or subjective questions, which I truly appreciated. Over three days, Bowen's accompaniment added a unique dimension to my Lhasa itinerary. Among the few Tibetans I've encountered, he was a definite plus. I sincerely wish him all the best in his work!
