Generally an ok stay, but will get the negative out of the way first. At breakfast, we got fruit for starters, then went back for cooked food. Our own custom when doing this at any buffet breakfast, is to leave our room swipe key prominently on the table so that staff know we are coming back, which we did. We were only gone 2 minutes max, and came back to the whole table cleared, including our room key! We told staff who didn't seem to know what to do, didn't apologise. Our main concern was our room key which had disappeared - no use to a general member of public as no room number written on it, that's why we thought it the safest thing to leave on the table. Eventually staff gave us a key back, and we got on with finishing our breakfast. But on returning to our room, it was the wrong key, as it didn't open the door. Walked back to reception and got a new card, again no apology on explaining the issue. Probably just being overly cautious, but it seemed highly suspicious that despite leaving the table clearly 'in use' and only for 2 minutes max, that our table had been so swiftly cleared. My mind went into worst case scenario thinking how the staff at breakfast knew our room number (you had to give it on arrival) and so then worrying that it was a scam so they could later use the key to access your room. We always keep valuables in a safe anyway, but also made sure to padlock our suitcases and didn't unpack after this incident. The next day we got back from the falls to find the balcony doors wide open!! Given that we saw large monkeys at the property swinging onto balconies and trying to get in, I dread to think what could have happened. Anyway, the rest of our stay was fine. Food very average but ok, service was not good but we did ok. The main reason for staying was the proximity to the falls, and we loved being able to visit on 3 separate occasions during our stay with it being just a 5 minute walk. I appreciate there are limited resources in Zambia, but we have stayed at other similar places economically that had more pleasant hotels, staff and food. I do feel that the price paid was well over what it was worth, as everything was quite shabby around the edges and half-hearted. Despite that, am glad we stayed here, as it fulfilled our requirement for falls proximity which was important to us.
