Schloss Roxburghe

My partner and I came to stay for a spa break and really enjoyed our stay, but the hotel could benefit from a few tweaks. Pros: - Gorgeous facilities and decor. The restaurants and spa were just fantastic and the ambience was very special - felt very modern Scottish country hotel. - Pricing of the stay and food and drinks were fair and reasonable for quality. Cons: - The temperature in the hotel was very warm, and this meant the rooms were hot and despite air con we couldn’t seem to bring the temperature down enough and it meant we didn’t sleep well. - The pillows on the bed in the rooms were awful - no shape and flat.

A true luxury resort, Schloss Roxburghe offers the highest quality stay in the Scottish Borders. A spa, a wide range of activities (golf, skeet, archery, etc.), and beautiful grounds make this the sort of stay where you never need to leave the property. The food options are very good and there is an outstanding whisky bar. Our room was comfortable (the bed was wonderful), and the stay was everything we would expect at a property of this quality On the downside, the pricetag matches (exceeds? - it's pricey) the quality of the resort. The rooms are very nice, but they're average size. A low/night-light in the bathroom would be nice. Our dinner at the main restaurant was marred by numerous large groups that arrived after we were seated and marred the dining experience. It would have been nice if someone (hostess/manager) had explained the situation to prepare us, if nothing else.

After a pick you up afternoon tea, we checked into our suite. We weren’t prepared for how lovely it was. Full to the brim with antique furniture, velvet sofa, armchairs, the artwork is incredible and so much space. Walk in wardrobe area with full length mirror. Big tub and his and her sinks in the bathroom. The stone walls and lawns in the gardens are beautiful, there’s a new extension to the main house that has been done very well and the glasshouse is a special space, but they are missing a trick not growing vines or plants in there. Dinner was excellent, perfect steak and wine. We took up the opportunity to do some clay pigeon shooting, Ian was looking after us and went over all the rules and safety issues and gave us some tips on how to do well. It was so much fun, I got very competitive and had to be dragged away. This was hands down the best few days we’ve spent away from home. The surrounding areas are interesting and the house is absolutely beautiful in every way. The professional staff know exactly what to do and where to be. Without fail, we will be coming back to stay, what a special estate.

Nice hotel. Great activities. Shout out for extremely good customer service in the golf shop. Also a clay shooting lesson with Eoin is highly recommended…. Easy to book, fantastic tuition and good fun.

Having MS my wife has some requirements to make life easier for her. These were only explained once to the staff and they were met every time thereafter without request. Seamlessly professional. Having doubts about the expenditure beforehand, I would thoroughly recommend Schloss Roxburghe on this alone and am already looking forward to a return visit. Although this time I won't keep it as a surprise so my wife knows to bring her swimming costume!

We stopped for one night and whilst the hotel is lovely, not sure that we felt the value of the £340 room cost overall. I suspect the experience might be different if you are staying longer and making better use of the spa and facilities than we did. Food was exceptional - we ate at Charlie’s for dinner and the breakfast selection in the morning was first class. The service from all staff was great, particularly the service in the whisky bar where we had a wee dram or two after dinner. So, we had a great stop, lovely food and were on our way the next morning - all for a cost of circa £650 including dinner and drinks. It was great but I’m not sure it was that great to be worth that cost overall. Lovely place but not sure we would go out of our way to return - others might feel it was better value if making more use of the facilities than we did though. For a one night stop over, there are probably better value options.

Grounds and hotel are beautiful but our room was decidedly average. Despite £315 a night, which seemingly wasn’t enough because they added a ‘discretionary’ but secret service charge of 5% on top, I can’t say it was spectacular. The room : The carpet was heavily stained and we couldn’t open a window due to an issue with bees coming in. Bathroom foisty smelling but I must say was well equipped. Also, the room was maintained regularly which is refreshing these days. The food : £28 for a very average burger and chips. Need I say more ? Plus 12% service on top. Breakfast is mainly a buffet, and nothing to write home about. Plenty of choice though. The staff : by and large the staff were tremendous. Helpful, friendly, always a lovely welcome. The only exception were the two girls in the state room restaurant. They couldn’t have been less interested. You know when you feel like you’re interrupting their peace by bothering them with a drink order ?? The spa : lovely being that it was sunny, pool was great. Beware, I was told we couldn’t have coffee here because they encourage ‘healthy’ options like tea and water. Assume same goes for alcohol (though I don’t drink). Being that I’m a grown up and I come on holiday for fun, forced health choices are a bit OTT for my liking and it left me irritated. Jacuzzi was broken most of the time we were there We had a nice time, and it’s in a great location but we probably wouldn’t return - there are better spa hotels for the price. No reflection though on the (mainly) lively staff who I think work hard and are good at their job

Fabulous hotel and facilities, its website does not do it justice! The food was the only negative thing for my family, though I myself chose well and thoroughly enjoyed all my meals, especially breakfast and the caesar salad lunch in the golf clubhouse. The pool and relaxation area, the bedrooms and bar areas were exceptional with delightful staff. My 2 spa treatments, facial and pedi were more than I’ve ever paid for such treatments, but delivered well by a staff member for whom nothing was too much trouble.I would love to revisit sometime. Beautiful hotel in a stunning location with great staff ready to help and advise. Only issue we had was the price v quality of the food didn't match our expectations.
