Beside Sujia Lane on Huangxing Road Pedestrian Street, a small red-brick building lies hidden. Before it stands an ancient statue that has gazed for a thousand years; inside, the memories of the Grain Bureau have settled for over half a century. Today, this rare Soviet-style red-brick building in Changsha is writing a brandânew story for âAtour S.â
A Dwelling Where Eras Meet
Atour S Hotel, Changsha IFS Guojin Center Wuyi Square, is located at No. 36 Sujia Lane in the Baiguoyuan Historical and Cultural Block. Its predecessor was the office building of the Hunan Provincial Grain Bureau, first built in the 1950s. This threeâstory redâbrick structure is a typical and rare example of Sovietâstyle architecture in Changsha. It was listed as a Municipal Cultural Heritage Site in 2014 and selected as a â20thâCentury Chinese Architectural Heritage Siteâ in 2023. Nearby historical relics, such as the former printing site of Xiangjiang Review, give the area a rich cultural atmosphere.
The Atour Group defines itself as âcreating a sanctuary for body and mind.â Atour S is an upgraded line of Atour hotels â the âSâ stands for âSpecial,â focusing on business travelers who seek quality living and offering premium experiences. The hotel fully preserves the buildingâs historic character and courtyard layout.
Complete Amenities for the Ideal Business Stay
The hotel offers various room types and facilities including a buffet breakfast (Xiang Zhao), a selfâservice laundry (Chu Chen), a gym (Han Chu), the Zhu Ju reading space, and a small meeting room. The Atour S brand emphasizes the coexistence of art and practicality: public areas exude an artistic flair, while room design balances comfort with function, creating a galleryâlike visual experience and warm, homeâlike service. âZhu Juâ features a âflowing libraryâ concept, offering a curated selection of books for guests to enjoy free of charge. âChu Chenâ laundry provides convenient clothing care for business travelers, continuing the Atour brand philosophy of being âhumane, warm, and interesting.â
Prime Location for Effortless Travel
Located in the core commercial area of Changsha, the hotel offers outstanding convenience:
3âminute walk to Huangxing Square Metro Station (Line 1)
5âminute walk to IFS Guojin Center
5âminute walk to Wuyi Square, Huangxing Road Pedestrian Street, and Pozijie Street
Approx. 8âminute drive to Orange Isle, Yuelu Mountain, and other Changsha landmarks
Sujia Lane also preserves a statue of the great SongâDynasty writer Su Xun and the legend of âLaoquan Biejingâ (a secluded path named after his literary name), creating a delightful contrast with the 1950s Sovietâstyle redâbrick building. This quaint, tranquil yet downtown lane allows you to experience Changshaâs oldâcity charm while plunging instantly into its modern bustle and convenience.
Here, you will find the historical depth of a centuryâold redâbrick building, the distinctive taste of Atour S, and the utmost central convenience of Changsha. Business travel and quality living â both are yours to enjoy.
"This hotel is great! I initially came out of curiosity to check out this hotel converted from a former grain bureau, but I was completely won over! Located in the city center, it's surprisingly quiet. Pushing open the heavy wrought-iron gate feels like entering another world. The receptionist, Xiao Qiao, was very welcoming and attentive. I booked an executive suite with a great view. The room facilities are very new, complete with a smart toilet and projector; you wouldn't guess it's a converted old building. What I liked most was the soundproofing; the silo-structured walls provide natural sound insulation, resulting in excellent sleep quality. The price is very reasonable for a boutique hotel in this category. It offers a unique industrial heritage experience with star-level service. I've already recommended it to several friends and will definitely stay here again next time!"
